But then I found out McLame's voting record against woman's reproductive choice & equal pay and then the capper was Palin, who I hate with a white-hot loathing.

ReplyDeleteMy daughter called and just wanted to talk. I told her that in a choice between talking to her or watching the Presidential debate she would always be the winner, but I still am going to have to watch it again.
Oh well.
Yeah that was not smart of McSame. Totally makes Obama look like the winner, since he stuck around. Obama looks happy, he knows he did well.

A look at some of the claims made by presidential nominees Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain in Tuesday night's debate:

Oil imports
The claim: Speaking about energy costs, McCain said: "We've got to stop sending $700 billion a year to countries who don't like us that much."
The facts: McCain repeatedly makes this claim, which has often been criticized as exaggerated. The United States spends about $536 billion a year on imported oil, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. For crude oil alone, last year the United States imported about 3.7 billion barrels at an average price of $67.97 per barrel, for a total of about $250 billion, Energy Department statistics show. But about one-third of that goes to close U.S. allies of Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

Financial crisis
The claims: "With the encouragement of Sen. Obama and his cronies," McCain said, government-sponsored mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were key drivers of the financial crisis — "the match that started this forest fire." McCain said Obama is the second-highest recipient of campaign contributions from employees of those entities in the Congress. Obama countered that "the biggest problem" was the deregulation of the financial system.
The facts: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which were created during the Depression to promote home ownership, recently went into government conservatorship after huge losses from investments in mortgage-backed securities. Fannie and Freddie were one of the top spenders on lobbying in the past decade, according to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics. Numerous bills to tighten regulations on them failed in the last decade. Many of Fannie and Freddie's most ardent supporters have been Democrats.
Experts disagree about how important Fannie and Freddie were in contributing to the financial meltdown. No one disputes that the corporations bought billions of dollars in securities now considered "toxic," but so did many large private banks and investment firms.
Obama has received $126,349 in contributions from Fannie and Freddie employees and political action committees, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. That's second in Congress only to Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut, who chairs the banking committee. McCain received $21,550.
The McCain campaign has produced no evidence, however, that Obama did favors for the corporations. In 2005, McCain co-sponsored a bill to step up regulation on Fannie and Freddie. Dodd and other Democrats voted against it in committee, and it never came to a vote in the full Senate, so Obama did not vote on it.
McCain has a history of supporting financial deregulation, though he now says more regulation is needed.
Taxes and spending
The claim: Obama said his tax and spending plans would result in a "net spending cut" for the federal government. McCain said that Obama is proposing $860 billion in new spending.
The facts: A study from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget found McCain's tax and spending proposals would add $288 billion to $354 billion to the federal deficit by 2013. Obama's proposals would add $387 billion to the deficit by 2013, the study says.
Boeing contract
The claim: McCain said he "saved taxpayers $6.8 billion" on a military contract between Boeing and the Defense Department to lease refueling tanker planes to the Air Force.
The facts: McCain was a chief congressional critic of Boeing's plan, which was killed in 2003. The Congressional Budget Office estimated the cost of the lease proposal at $20 billion. A former Air Force official and a former top Boeing executive pleaded guilty to corruption charges related to that proposal and served time in prison. The Air Force still needs new tankers to replace its decades-old fleet, however. The Pentagon awarded a new, $35 billion tanker contract earlier this year to a team of EADS, the European parent of Airbus, and U.S. contractor Northrop Grumman. That contract, too, was scrapped after the Government Accountability Office found the Air Force botched the bidding process.
Small-business taxes
The claims: McCain said Obama's plan to raise the top income tax rate would raise taxes on "50% of small-business revenue."
The facts: The liberal Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, citing 2003 data from the non-partisan Tax Policy Center, said in a report that 436,000 tax filers with small-business income — 1.3% of the 32.8 million filers with small-business income — were subject to the top income tax rate. Another Tax Policy Center analysis concluded that "roughly 97% of small businesses would not be affected at all by increases in the top two tax rates."
Len Burman, who runs the Tax Policy Center, said recently: "The vast majority of small businesses would not be affected by the Obama tax increases" because they are not in the top two tax brackets. He added, "Most small-business owners have relatively modest incomes."
Alternative energy
The claim: Obama said McCain voted 23 times against alternative energy programs.
The facts: In his claim, Obama includes several votes on the same piece of legislation. The website FactCheck.org, a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, says only 11 of the 23 votes involved reducing or eliminating incentives for renewable energy.

There are moments that I think is really really strange..
(1) McInsane suggesting a NEW Mortgage Plan ( even though it is basically a reshaping of the Bailout that is already on the table....)
(2) the FREEZE again- again and NO ONE says anything about it...only paying for Military programs....
(3) NUKE is his ONLY plan for energy ???
(4) the "THAT ONE" Moment....creeepy...Dismissive, rude...and disrespectful....
(5) HOW mean McCain was to Brokaw about the Treasury question...
(6) McCoot pacing..and wandering...really looked really uncomfortable..and awkward...
(7) McCoot lied about his healthcare plan AGAIN....
(8) The person who really got all the Extra time and first Questions was actually McCain....thanks tom...
(9) Obama really did look much more presidential and handled the insults and Tom with grace, and answered questions about Economy, the Iraq Mess, and foriegn policy better....

To me, the debate was over the moment McC said "that one" (while jerking his thumb toward Obama). Horrible man, doesn't even get what he said. We all know that phrase would only be used on someone you consider "inferior". McC is too out-of-it to be president.
And yes, that carpet was so awful, I thought something was wrong with my TV.

Hey all ,...I was rewatching too...and also I also saw a clip on CNN and realized that after the debate...
ReplyDeleteObama tried to shake hands with McCain while still in the little arena...and McCain walked away., and again and would not look at him.....really weird moment-that no one noticed...but I saw it on the CNN tape..and then on cspan...McCain and his wife just left....really strange..
I see the pointing toward Obama early on when MCPain said "cronyism" and then "that one" and not shaking his hand a major sign at the end of the debate, blatant signs that McLame thinks Obama is beneath him or he just has major contempt he can't get past. Not good, not professional.
ReplyDeleteThey did shake hands immediately afterwards ... the awkward moment came when McC snuck up behind Obama (who was working the crowd with Michelle) ... he tapped Obama on the back from one side, then quickly moved to the other side so Obama was turned around funny & it looked like Obama stuck out his hand toward McC. Now the gentlemanly thing for McC to have done was to shake. Instead he shoved Cindy toward Obama's hand. If what McC was trying to do was have a "greet the wives" moment, why did he then ignore Michelle, who was standing right there towering over the twerp?!? Wierd-o-rama!
