Click and read this article from the Seattle PI and try to grasp that 3000 teachers are about to spend the summer wondering if they have a JOB,.......and ask yourself is THIS how budgets are being balanced across the Country- with Layoffs at Schools ? Does DC have a Clue ? If you live in such a place - call your reps- send them THESE articles....and yeah. this is WHY Newspapers matter...they report the Damage in these times...
Thankfully, teachers have Unions & the union is standing up for this unfair /illegal practice. It sounds like they are required to renegotiate contracts because they have to cut a day, but then the vague reference to having also to cut staff...

yeah- good thing there is a union...

here - more and more laid off...and programs cancelled due to funds...
but the idea that the Seattle teachers would be left all summer in the lurch....not right...
