thanks for this...I'll always remember watching the King/Riggs match with a woman I babysat for, a single mom who worked fulltime, in night school for her masters, and in the Army reserves...
wow...so the woman you babysat for...you helped her during a hard time..but it sounds like she also taught you a lesson too...a brave strong mom could have goals and reach them ?
I remember the match too... I played tennis long ago...I was kind of good...but I lacked Killer Instinct..I liked placing the shots- the chess game of it, and also the fluidity of it- how to put spin on a ball...anyways..I watched her play and beat a man that ran his mouth- and I loved that.....
so for me it- it made me pursue other sports that would allow me to always compete in a co-ed way...I went to an all boys school- and ran high hurdles ...with the boys...and broke Title IX barriers...
I always associate Title IX with Billie Jean King....and how she changed the face of sports and the playing field of life..for all of us..
