So tonight my toilet was ill....constipated in a way....Would flush and the tank part kept draining it....but I got some mentoring from the internet and after some fiddling and faddling.....and appropriate bumbling...voila...it is now fixed...phew....(apparently I had a flush arm problem and a flapper problem...)
Footnote::: Captain Virgil deserves big shout out for providing phone support .....

Mr. Yenta's been battling a similar thing. We are not Mr. and/or Ms. Fixit, unfortunately. He took pictures of the inside of the tank and brought them to the hardware store. It seemed to net him so good advice, but I think our chain is still too long.

oh thanks friend... but it's good for me to get out my tool purse and make me use a different part of my brain....and for once I did not have to use duct tape...

I need Dr. Know to come to my office and fix our toilet. About once a month I have to take off the tank lid and fix the flapper arm thingy.

ReplyDeleteI know...( hey he lives down your way...)I have always loved having my tool bag ( the plumber calls it the "tool purse"....and figuring out how to use those things...( one of my favorite gifts was a Drill...)
and you are right...such a kick...( hell "fixing anything" is a kick....)
Toilets are cool. 75% of the problems are relatively easy fixes, and they leave you feeling smarter for having fixed them. 20% of the problems are hard fixes, but still doable with enough time and effort. Recognizing the other 5% is the important thing.
ReplyDeleteWord of advice: the nut holding on the flush handle is threaded backwards, for some insane reason. I only found this out after a good ten or fifteen minutes of trying to loosen it the normal way. This was mentioned around step seventeen on the repair kit I was using.
