~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By Monday Eve the Petition Count is over 319,000 and the MSNBC station was flooded with faxes and emails and phone lines jammed through the weekend. So as of today Phil Griffin has announced that Keith will be back on Tuesday Night. YAY !!!!
THIS is Keith's Letter To Countdown Viewers ( Please do read it closely....)::::
"I want to sincerely thank you for the honor of your extraordinary and ground-rattling support.
Your efforts have been integral to the remedying of these recent events, and the results should remind us of the power of individuals spontaneously acting together to correct injustices great or small.
I would also like to acknowledge with respect the many commentators and reporters, including those with whom my politics do not overlap, for their support.
I also wish to apologize to you viewers for having precipitated such anxiety and unnecessary drama. You should know that I mistakenly violated an inconsistently applied rule – which I previously knew nothing about -- that pertains to the process by which such political contributions are approved by NBC.
Certainly this mistake merited a form of public acknowledgment and/or internal warning, and an on-air discussion about the merits of limitations on such campaign contributions by all employees of news organizations.
Instead, after my representative was assured that no suspension was contemplated, I was suspended without a hearing, and learned of that suspension through the media.
You should also know that I did not attempt to keep any of these political contributions secret; I knew they would be known to you and the rest of the public. I did not make them through a relative, friend, corporation, PAC, or any other intermediary, and I did not blame them on some kind of convenient 'mistake' by their recipients.
When a website contacted NBC about one of the donations, I immediately volunteered that there were in fact three of them; and contrary to much of the subsequent reporting, I immediately volunteered to explain all this, on-air and off, in the fashion MSNBC desired.
I genuinely look forward to rejoining you on Countdown on Tuesday, to begin the repayment of your latest display of support and loyalty - support and loyalty that is truly mutual."
I watch PBS and BBC both every nite just to get a “neutral” POV, but Judy Woodruff is a blue-bible Dem and last nite she was chortling when she asked about Sarah Palin’s presence in Alaska to an Anchorage Dem reporter when he said “she’s not around when things aren’t going well…” Woodruff is as big a snark ho’ as the Courics and Sawyers of the admittedly blue channels. Sarah came out a winner three nights ago, but Woodruff and the rest of the third-raters on PBS, especially Mark Shields, an over-the-hill guy if there ever was one, are all in the bag for the DNC.
The BBC is the internationalist socialist channel, but since I was an FSO living overseas on four different continents in the day, I watch just to keep tabs on the EU & Middle East, just to name two areas I worked in at State. BTW, my best contact @ State runs the Afghanistan Desk and confides all the fire and brimstone about Karzai is merely Dick Holbrooke’s revenge for Karzai’s snubbing The Big Dick mercilessly over the last two years. All our US allies took bagfuls and suitcases full of cash from the CIA in the Middle East. Why should Afghanistan be an exception? Especially for Iran, on the country’s western border. We pay Karzai under the table or did so for five years or so, even before he was elected President.
You can thank whomever you feel has control over these things! (How politically correct is that--:-))
I like your blog..
Take care
Yay Here are more Keith comments:
He apologized for three things:
— "For having subjected you (his viewers) to all this unnecessary drama."
— For not knowing that "NBC had rules about getting permission for making political donations."
— That after he gave money to Arizona Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' campaign, he had her opponent on the air. "I should have made either it clear that I had contributed to her campaign or better still just dropped (the opponent, Jesse Kelly) from the segment."
Then at the end, Keith used the commentary to make a point about campaign finance laws. If he had given money to the political action fund of a group like the Chamber of Commerce, which then could have donated the money to a candidate, "you would have never, ever known."
Keith Olbermann is NOT a corporation!
Maybe, just maybe, private citizens have rights too???
Here is a twist-- by making Olbemann pre disclose what candidates he contributes to, will result in a who would KO vote for, cult??
There may be a silver lining to this cloud.
Was MSNBC going to lose their most successful cash cow???
Not bloody likely!
