WOMEN'S VOICES

Today we are to Celebrate the Strength and Courage of Women.

May the Voices of the Women below Inspire us to reach for More....
or atleast think twice about it....

" I stand at the alter of the murdered men and while I live I fight their cause."
Florence Nightingale

" When you get into a tight place, and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you cannot hang on for another minute, Never Give Up then, for that is just the place and time the tide will turn."
Harriet Beecher Stowe

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the World. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has."
Margaret Mead

" Don't give or sell your soul away. Hunger for the taste of Justice. Hunger for the taste of Freedom. All that you've got is your soul."
Tracy Chapman

" I always wanted to be Somebody, but I should have been more specific."
Lilly Tomlin

"Everybody talks about people, but nobody does anything about them ".
Fran Lebowitz

"The basic teaching of Buddhism is the teaching of transciency, or change. That Everything changes is the basic truth for each exsistance"
Shunryu Susuki

" Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves.Do not seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live Everything.Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answers."
Ranier Maria Rilke , Letter to a Young Poet

[[[ and just to make you smile : guess Who said the following: "It's not true I had nothing on. I had the radio on".]]]

*****************************************************************************

For those who arrived late to dinner...yes, it was Marilyn Monroe....of course. (But the guesses were wonderful...)

Now for Number II: Let's see who gets the Brass Ring this time...

THE QUOTE FOR FRIDAY MARCH 10TH;
"Life is about not knowing,
Having to change,
Taking the moment,
and making the most of it,
Without knowing what is going to happen next."

Sounds like Mae West to me! That's my guess, and I'm sticking to it...

Another good one:

If you do not realize you are the most beautiful thing on earth, your are either stupid or there is something wrong with your mirror.
--Tallulah Bankhead

(and in case you are REALLY bored http://www.geocities.com/manhattantallulahs/nightwalker.html Fair warning; Comedy is Not Pretty)

it was marilyn that said that

and here are two of my favorite quotes.

"ginger rogers did everything fred astair did BUT SHE DID IT BACKWARDS AND IN HIGH HEELS"
(anonymous)

and of course

"GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME"
(a rose is a rose)

I was going to guess Mae West too, but I see that's wrong. Is Marilyn Monroe the right answer?

Your blog is great. I'm adding you to my blogroll as enigma4ever - or do you prefer Watergate Summer?

enigma4ever said...

ROSE: yup...you got it ..... Marilyn said it....and lived it .( But I will be honest I always thought it was Mae West too). Thanks for the Great Quotes...( but we don't want you to stay the hell away from here ;-)

KATHY: Yeah, I thought it was Mae too....You can put me as Enigma4ever if you want ( Cause I have noticed that it moves me up on the Blogroll- and then I am not down at the bottem....) but thanks...

I love the Marilyn quote. (For some reason, I was thinking it was Dorothy Parker.) And they said she wasn't that bright. I think that shows that the pulled the wool over a lot of people's eyes on that score.

Anonymous said...

oops, that SHE (not THE) pulled the wool ...

enigma4ever said...

ANITA: you are right that does indeed also sound like Dorothy Parker...yup, Norma Jean was a very bright lady...

RORY: thanks for coming by....I will lurk your way later...

I would like to add this quote that I found today in a virtual martini bar.

"Blogrolled you last night...( you are right next to Neil on the roll...I thought he would do well sitting there with martini's)"

What a great mental picture it brought to me.

Thank you so much! :)

POP: I couldn't resist ;-) Blogger for some reason messed up my blog last night- so when it came back my Blogroll was in chunks ..so I reconstructed and I had fun putting it back together....

Anonymous said...

huh...I would have guessed Mae West as well...but it sounds just as good coming from Marilyn Monroe...what was it Elton John sang about her, "they put you on a pedestal, and they made you change your name"

and since i'm a veritable quote machine, here's one from the back cover of "Silent Spring"...

"Not war, but a plethora of man-made things...is threatening to strangle us, suffocate us, bury us, in the debris and by-products of our technologically inventive and irresponsible age"...Margaret Mead (again)

WINDSPIKE : Thanks for coming by...( hmm a doorknob ???)

OKAY ...the Enigma has a little confession, a very wise soul has emailed me and very nicely pointed out that my one quote is by a MAN..Not a Woman ..I made a mistake..
the last quote from " Letter to a Young Poet" ....I apologize and will correct tomorrow. So sorry.
( and I still think it is a great quote) Well send me more...Love them all.

OK, so we'll make up for it with another one, 'cuz this topic has put me in THAT kind of mood...

"R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me"

written by a woman, but applicable to all living things, even a planet...

meldonna said...

Man, this is starting to sound like a new Algonquin Round Table! Rush would give up Oxycontin to be as eloquent. (*sp?)

But that would also mean he'd have to start making sense, and I ain't holding my breath.

My other favorite Tallulah quote, which I have adopted as a personal motto:

It's not easy to be me; even I have trouble doing it.

A toast to all women who know their own mind, and my Mama included.

Za vashe zdorov'ye

(see movie Fiddler on the Roof for pronounciation)

L'chayim!

enigma4ever said...

Wow, Tallulah, Aretha and of course Mel and Maine Friend - speaking such wisdom...powerful ...
I go to bed rich tonight....thank you...

Darn. Shoulda got here earlier. Knew that one cold.

Neil Shakespeare said...

Drat. That one I have no idea.

I love the March 10th quote. Because I think that IS what life is about. Flexibility. Mutability.

But I have no idea who said it. I'll hazard a guess that will be completely wrong: Eleanor Roosevelt. Or Mariah Carey. One or the other. I'm sure.

No? Hmmmm. (but I'm guessing that rose knows will know this one, too -- she's got that Mambo Sven thing goin' on, you know)

Here's to Faith Hill....who had the courage to swear at Bush to help publicize her latest concert tour.

:D

Aside from that sideshow....I hereby honor all women of integrity.

the friday quote is by Gilda Radner

Do I get a teddy bear if I'm right? :)

enigma4ever said...

POP: WOW ...that was good....hmmm, we need to give you some sort of prize and Rose too, hmm let me think on that...

Poetry Man: that was wonderful thing to say about your mom...

WADENA: Hmm, we should honor the Dixie Chicks too ;-)
along with Faith Hill...thanks for coming by.

ANITA: It is a great quote isn't it..wish I wrote it...am trying to live it..

NEIL: Thanks for coming back...and sorry we stumped you...

I'd like to give a shout out to Barbara G. Walker, author of The Women's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets. This book amazes me and opens my eyes wider every time I pick it up. Anyone who still believes in the superiority of men should be strapped to a chair and forced to read this.
