Hi enigma! I've been emailing K Olbermann since back when he was the only MSM covering Ohio's vote problems. With his recent "Special Comments", I think everyone has been telling him to keep it up. Well, not everyone, just the 76% that are angry about what's happening. We need a lot more Keiths. Wouldn't you like to see him & Jack Cafferty do a joint smackdown of bush? i know they're on different networks, but definitely on the same page where this insane faux cowboy & his friends are concerned. D.K.

Friday nite. I'm watching "Countdown" with Olbermann. "Damn!" I think, "He's wrapping up tonight's program with the same commentary he used last Monday! A bloody rerun!"

I get up to leave. Olbermann begins. I sink back into my chair where I remain riveted til he finishes. So used to crap that passes for news or serious commentary on the boob tube, I can't believe what I'm hearing. TV so rare it's obscene, or so it would seem, the way I'm unable to leave this moment by an individual on American TV speaking *TRUTH*. And then it's over and I'm left shaking my head wondering, "What the hell was that? ... Where the hell am I?"

Someone said, "The truth shall set you free." That may be, but it's been so long since hearing so much of it crammed into such a powerful few minutes over a television screen that, for this time at least, it left me very dizzy and disoriented. I'd love more of these *TRUTH* full moments to where we might all next reap the freedom part.

Thanks enigma for posting this. It's one rerun of which I'll never tire.

The first time I heard Olbermann do this I sat with open-mouthed wonder with scattered grins and hope. I love to watch it and each time, hope grows a little stronger. Thanks for posting.

Great post as usual and nice to have you back Blogging again, Enigma.

I'd like to offer a little personal insight which some of you may or may not agree with though.

I'm pleased that citizens and pundits alike have finally awakened to the deceptive policies put into practice by Dubya.

They've resulted in much death and destruction for not only our own soldiers but many innocent Islamic civilians the past five years.

However, Olbermann and the media are only speaking up now because they know Republicans poll ratings are so low. They're trying to salvage their reputations and boost public regard for themselves by offering alternative viewpoints which reflect disdain for the media and one party politics in general. It's a shame K Street politicians haven't realized this yet either.

However, people shouldn't taken them seriously. Nothing will change if all they do is continue to talk about foreigh policy failures rather the many domestic crisis which Americans face.

For example, senior citizens have been impacted by a disasterous Medicare prescription plan enacted into law on behalf of the pharmacutical lobby. It leaves a huge gap in coverage known as the "Dougnut Hole" which requires seniors to pay full price once they exceed $2000 in costs.

Recently, "The Campaign For America's Future," initiated an online campaign to pressure Congress to resolve the problem so seniors won't be burdened with unfair costs for their drugs. It includes an Email drive and a contest with You Tube to submit the best video illustrating the problems seniors face.

Visit the link here: Doughnut Hole

This concern and others such as standing up for women's equality will do more to drive people to the polls in November than dwelling on war and terrorism. Those are important concerns but what people want most is to force Congress to resolve their domestic pocket book issues.

For more on how women have been abused by this Administration and Congress read my latest Column, What Do Women Want ?

Don't fall into the trap set by Bush, Cheney, Rove Rumsfeld and the corporate media which is to keep the public discussing Iraq and terrorism.

Show them you won't plan their game and force them to address the domestic needs of Americans.

As Always,
Cosmic

Thanks for posting this. I haven't been able catch the show this week. I'm so glad more people are tuning in to hear Olbermann's commentaries. He has always been one of my favorites because he is not afraid to confront lies and the lying liars who tell them. =)

Kudos to you AND Keith.

Cosmic, I disagree about your assessment of Olbermann. I've been listening to him hit & jab this administration for YEARS now. His show has been on the line many times over his forthrightness. Why do you think O'Reilly & Fox go to such lengths to discredit him? Now as far as other MSM boot-lickers (like Chris Matthews), you are right, they jump on the bandwagon as the wind of change shift. But I take my comfort where I find it.

Agree totally that domestic issues should not be ignored. Paul Krugman (for one) has been on The Doughnut Hole flaw since day 1. This administration has been a disasterous failure at everything! Peace, D.K.

Thanks for pointing that out to me,Anonymous.

I hastily lumped Olbermann in with all the other corporate media talking heads who are nothing more than apologists for our Commandant In Chief.

They distract rather than inform us with their spin about the REAL issues Americans face.

Can't help but wonder though if Olbermann will continue his criticism of the Bush policies if a new Congressional majority isn't elected in November.

Hope he doesn't just fade into the sunset like so many others before him.

I'll give him credit for at least trying and kudos to Enigma for sharing it with us all.

Keith is no taking head....far from it...he is Integrity and Courage in Motion....and he is a firm believer that his job is more than talking- he signs off with Good Night and Good Luck because he is a Ed Murrow supporter ( Fred Friendly too)- and that our country is in trouble and those with the Mike are responsible to make a difference. Since I am a bit under the weather I am going to post more of his eloquent commentaries and also more of Jack Cafferty....these men are trying to poke the beast- because they geniunely care- and they risk their jobs every time they do this....

Olbermann considers being fired a badge of honor. I have heard him list all the places that fired him and why (he voiced his opinion a little too stridently). You should have heard what he had to sad about John Gibson several months back. Olbermann worked with Gibson – said they got along just fine – but Gibson made some racial slurs on a right-wing radio program and Olbermann thought Fox should fire him. So he said so. In plain language. He was right. And what he’s been saying lately is no different than what we’ve all been saying – especially this past year. Olberman’s been jabbing at Bush for a while now – but never this stridently. I doubt he’ll shut up. Especially as he’s already weathered heat from MSNBC president Rick Kaplan over his cancer series. Kaplan ripped him a new one – ordering Olbermann to shut the fuck up. Olbermann didn’t – even under threat of firing. Somehow I doubt he’ll shut up now.

FLS: yup..he is not going to stop now...(and yeah- like Keith drove away Rita viewers...ahem...the only thing that drove away viewers was well- Rita...say no more...)
And actually that I Quit series he did was wonderful- a public service- and actually we all also know that it had a lot to do with Peter Jennings as well....alot has happened- and we are losing Voices...we need More Voices and Men with Balls...( oh, hell we need women with balls too- truthfully)
