I couldn't agree more. I am a proud vet. My father is a proud vet. My grandfather was a proud vet. And we all (Gramps too if he was still around) are mightily offended by such crap.

I turns my stomach every time those Chickenhawls wrap themselves in the flag and tell me how much of a traitor I am. It seems to me that attitudes like that are EXACTLY what veterans served their duty to protect us from. To devalue it now is a slap in the face of every soldier, sailor, airman, and marine currently in the service of their country.

    Well put Poobie :)

One more US Army veteran here, chiming in on the Rumsfeld appearance at the American Legion convention. I am apalled and ashamed and enraged all at the same time at Rumsfeld's chickenhawk speech.

Where was he when I was freezing my ass off on a machine gun emplacement at night on top of a hill in Korea? Fortunately I was there after the war was over, but I was still far away from home with the wind whipping down from Manchuria and counting the days when I would get back to "the Land of the Big PX."

Just where the hell were they?

Where was Rumsfeld and Cheney and Bush and Wolfowitz and all the rest of those buttholes when I got my tour extended because of the Cuban Missle Crisis?

Just where? Ånd what were they doing?

And where are they now that National Guard troopers are being sent back for a second and a third and a fourth tour and getting their asses shot off while Rumsfeld and all the rest of the chickenhawks who never served a day verbally blast people who want this war to STOP! NOW!

At least I was Regular Army. In peacetime. I knew I was joining for three years. The National Guard Troopers signed up for two weeks of training a year and weekend duty, not a war of choice designed for fun and profit by the crypto-fascist civilians in the White House and the Pentagon.

Rumsfeld compares war critics to people appeasing the Nazis in the '30s? Seig Heil, Rummy. In a just and perfect world, you'd be up before a new Nuremburg War Crimes court. You and all your neocon friends.

Thanks for this, enigma. I think most veterans are for peace as well as most of the active military, at least after the first day in country. It's the military contractors making such big money off war who can't get enough.

My dad was WWII navy. When he learned Rumfeld was gonna be Sec Def in 2001, he said "not that asshole again". My big ex-marine viet vet husband, who does not believe all wars are unjustified, cannot support this criminal invasion & occupation AT ALL. He would like to see the whole bush regime first up in the docket of The Int'l Criminal Court, tried in absentia if necessary. D.K.

Thanks for posting this. One note, however, could you please post a link to Tom's site? He works really hard on this music and slide shows and I'd like to see him more widely recognized. He's very talented and a genuinely nice guy.
