PAWS for Purple Hearts, Canine Companions for PTSD....

So on the Evening News the other night on NBC they had a great story about VETS working with Canine Companions as they battle PTSD......really amazing and inspiring....Here are the links if you want to learn more....or perhaps give some Christmas money.
One Foundation doing Canine Work has some info.Bergin University in California is helping Study PTSD and Canine Intervention, and is helping people get degrees studying companion animals assistance and comfort programs.
Assistance Dog Institute has more information about PAWS for Purple Hearts.
This is a direct link to the PAWS program which is the first in the world. Finally Something Good that is really helping VETS and soldiers battling PTSD.....

Love that pic of vet and dog! I think this is a fantastic program since everything in life is made better by sharing it with a dog. And these trained service dogs do even more by providing some measure of independence. A win-win for everyone!

I lost the only dog I ever had in 1986. Lately, I have been thinking about getting another friend. I've made no decision as of yet.

Awesome program. There are a few good programs out there though, and like this one, started up by people who wanted to help those who did not/could not get help..

An extremely noble and worthy gesture by you in conveying this to your Blog audience, Enigma.

I've always felt animals could be theraputic and essential to healing whatever man made obstacles beset us.

I lost my cat Misty several years ago which nearly devestated me but one of my friends stepped forward to remind me the love we shared for each other came about through the bond we formed after I suffered through a painful medical emergency myself.

I've moved on from this episode in my life's journey and have replaced her with a dog similar to the one shown in the photo in this post.

Thank you again for sharing this.

Peace,
Cosmic

Thanks Enigma. While I've not been to war and returned wounded, nor do I suffer PTSD, Mrs. Dada and I have an anchor to a calming essence in a reality that's been brutally mutilated in the new millenium. He's Sam, my editor. And he's a dog.

He truly does pull us outside of ourselves away from the insanity of a nation that spreads freedom globally with bombs and misery. A nation that demonstrates its loyalty to its friends with gifts of weapons and nuke technology while back home it crushes the human dignity of millions by riding them into the financial grounds of ruin to save the power brokers who rule them.

Sam is a true godsend. He distracts our attentions towards a far greater meaning to life - the unconditional love all around us we as a species are so hell bent on blowing the shit out of.

Besides, as was said Saturday over on Urban Survival, "They usually get a couple of meals a day, unconditional love provided they don't mess in the house and a few other easy to learn rules. They get free healthcare, have chauffeurs, occasionally go to the beauty shop." (Not Sam's bag.)

"They also don't worry about things like style - nature has provided them a warm coat which changes a bit by the seasons...and...pets
don't have a monetary system, elections, or disagreements over religion."

Amen.

Oh yes, oh yes, a zillion times over. I'm a person who's lived with PTSD all my life -- trauma stemming right from infancy -- and my three cats are my own holy trinity.

No dogs in the house ... the cats would NEVER forgive me and my husband -- lol -- but we have lots of doggy-love via friends, relatives, and our fabulous local pet food shop ... a Golden Retriever who loves up everybody who comes into the store ... My husband stops there after work several days a week just to smush with Tess ;-)
