As a mom that was around during Vietnam, I have been haunted by Visually how much Iraq is reminding me of Vietnam. For me it is small things, I can be at the grocery store and I can Know I am standing next to Recently Returned VET. I can see it in how their hand shakes, how they twitch when bus backfires, and I see it in their eyes. It is tugging at me, I can not watch the Hearings this week and not have waves of Deja Vu. So I posted the Gimme Shelter Vietnam Video on my blog earlier this month and it was moving , and so beautifully done. So I mentioned it to Robert over at Left Of Centrist, well, he is so talented, do Click the Title and See this Great Video, he wove it all together, Vietnam and Iraq, and Gimme Shelter. ( Also be sure to go to his website and see his other videos).

About the DC Marche on the 15th:
Please Folks do take care when you go to DC, Do Take Cameras, Do take Cellphones, Camera Cellphones are even better. Do travel in Groups, and do have atleast one person wear a Red Cross armband, to let others know One is able to render care . ( Also it helps to let The Bully Police that you have prepared, so they might not even try to intimidate you.). Do travel in Groups, do not travel alone. If you want to be really Creative I highly reccommend making yourself Press Passes, even Give yourself Press Passes from Fictious Foreign Papers, that they will not check. But Foreign Press Passes are very initmidating to The Bully Police in DC. I am saying to be Creative and Be Safe.

I give this advice as this week during the Hearings a Minister was bullied and roughed up trying to attend a one of the Petreaus Hearings, and his leg was broken. Yes, a Minister. And yes he was arrested and charged with Bogus Charges. We are in a Police State, and we are in Dark Times. ( read More on this Issue over at Left of Centrist and Crooks&Liars ).

Really the only difference between this war and the Vietnam war is the lack of great songs to unify us. We have no Bob Dylan songs, or Joan Baez songs to fire us up and give us something to sing in unison while standing in front of the White House or the Senate.

Of course the Dixie Chicks and Pink at least made the effort. But where is Springsteen?

I heard Roy McGovern (the former CIA analyst who hassled rummie about his lies) got arrested before the hearings by demanding that Petty & Crocky be sworn before testifying. shameful ~~ D.K.

The only difference between Iraq and Vietnam is the horror of this will dwarf Vietnam in every respect and Bush will ensure it. I just had a disturbing conversation with another of my sons who wants to go to Iraq as a civilian employee once he Graduates from his tech school. The money and the adventure for a year appeal to him. This crap sickens me.
I gather you too are unable to go to DC. I commend your offer of help and hope your advice is adhered to. I am going to watch that video now and you remind me I must visit the left of centrist site.
Just my input but I added the pain in the neck verification myself because I had people trying to deal with me more than interest in discussion.

I just watched that, well choreographed. I was home when the picture of the naked girl was flashing across the screen. That and the departure from Saigon are 2 moments I will always remember.
I remember when gimme shelter came out too. I love that song and as war is all the same that song goes hand in hand with all war.

Enigma,
Beautiful photo.
I know what you mean about the soldiers. I have been researching the war for a film project. What soldiers go through is astounding. Their lives are forever marred by their landscape and their spiritual worth is decimated when they step off of the plane. A human tragedy indeed.

I found crooks and liars by the way. i did leave this with Jonand will be stopping by there daily now that I know.
My take on the surge is Bush must stay the course in Iraq until he finds his excuse to attack Iran but I do not mean from land.
The troops and equipment must remain in Iraq too contain Iran. He is boxing them in!
The chief idiot has more than enough armaments in the gulf with 3 carrier Battle groups and a french Carrier, the Charles De Gaulle at the mouth.
Plus as you know, Bush just upped the amount of advanced military hardware he is giving to Israel to 35 billion to offset the 20 Billion $ worth he is given to Saudi Arabia and other supposed allies to offset Iran.
It is quite a mess Bush is developing as he pursues his new middle east order that was his original reason for attacking Iraq. Someone must wake up congress quick because he is going to beat them to the punch!

With which he can't pacify ONE CITY in Iraq.

If Chimpy hits Iran, the lifespan of the United states of America is measurable in weeks. We are going to go the Soviet route to the end. From what I've heard from some folks who would know, the CENTCOM commander has repeatedly said he will not execute orders for an attack on Iran. When the top brass refuses the monkey, the end of the US is just around the corner.

It's serious all right.
And painful to watch us possibly repeat Iraq and Vietnam in Iran.

Dada said...

Hello: My Congressman is Sylvestre Reyes (D., El Paso, TX.--head of the Intelligence Committee). He voted against the Iraq War before it began.

Today Mrs. Dada went to a luncheon where he was in attendance. Before the Q&A session began after lunch, he asked all questions re Gen. Petraeus and the war be held until the last.

Mrs. Dada was the only person in attendance able to ask a question about the war before time ran out, specifically, "...What can you do to insure Americans leave Iraq in accordance with the will of the people...SOON?"

His answer sounded much like Bush spin, i.e., the Iraqi gov't must take responsibility for their future before we can leave, US troops will likely be in Iraq for 10 more years, and Iran and Syria are interfering in Iraq.

Dada is swooning from these responses from a congressman who voted against this Bush insanity before it started but now sounds like a Bush lackey.

And now Dada is wondering on the eve of war with Iran, "Where on Earth can I escape this fuckin' Bush madness?"

I have been trying to spread the number on different blogs to call tomorrow.

I hope they get so many they will shudder at the prospect of next November,

I will call our useless Ohio elected officials... but I swear, I really think that nothing is going to change the course of events except for when serious talk of a draft begins. THAT just might wake up/ piss off the soccer moms and SUV dads who happily let this war be somebody else's kid's responsibility.
And as horrified as I am to think that a draft could happen, ya have to think about this equally horrifying fact: At some point, as we occupy Iraq year after year, the troops that are being repeatedly sent back to Iraq (and possibly Iran if Pres Chimpy McClusterfuck has his way) will be doing their 8th or 9th tours of duty. How can ANYONE ask that of them???
Oh... that's right. 5 Deferment Dick and President AWOL can.

It's half-frightening to think I'll be in DC tomorrow. With the recent Gestapo style bully tactics against members of the peace movement, I'm hoping they're not looking for an excuse to have Kent State II.

enigma4ever said...

Sheri: I am so sorry you are worried, I hope and pray that the Large Turnout is protection in itself, and also travel with a group...andhave many cameras and cellphones and camera phones...make yourself Fake Foriegn Press Passes....these are simple things that you can do , but that serve as protection....Be safe and keep us all posted. ( I am adding you to the blogroll this weekend...

Tina: yup..everything you said is so true..

Larry: thank you for spreading the word...

Dada: Thank you and Mrs Dada for doing all that you do...and you would think the Repukes would wise up and realize that they need to Listen to the People at this point- or face losing their jobs...ALL repukes..

Aaron: seriously lessons that could be and should have been learned from...

Granny: thank you for all that you do..

Great action, Enigma. If there were a million Americans like you Bush would run for his pitiful life.

My thoughts are with you!

Klimt is my all time favorite. I have been completely immersed in him lately as my latest mosaic is based on his Tree of Life. Can't wait to show off the finished project but don't hold your breath.

Saw the footage on the minister. Too sad what we've come to.
