One of the Migrant Mother's Children speaks out....

One of the daughters in the famous Dorothea Lange Photo of Florence Thompson from 1936 recently spoke out to CNN, expressing concerns about the economy and also sending a messege to President Elect Obama. There is more about the family in this Dust Bowl Book has more photos and information.

For the very first time King George FINALLY admitted that our Economy is in DEEP Trouble...the twit, finally said the R word...the cruel joke is that it is worse than ever, 533,000 unemployed for November- the worst in 34 Years...and Bush finally Notices ???!! "Experts" are now saying that we have been in a Recession for over a year, so my Question is how long will it take for Someone to admit that we may be in a Depression ? More than ONE in 10 Homes is in Foreclosure or facing foreclosure....( I suspect that it is higher once you also start counting in the Landlords that are being foreclosed...) We all have to keep our eyes and hearts open....and somehow take care of each other. There certainly is No Bailout coming to Mainstreet Folks....It is barely acknowledged that we are in trouble...Bush is worse than Hoover, so what shall we call HIS Tent Cities ? or should we just post a sign " Welcome to BushLand" and open up the Malls in DC for all of us....

(Hat Tip and many thanks to Jack, as he saw this story first....)

Dearest E..yes, even I (who is not American) remember this famous pic.. and no, somehow the email must've missed my box.. oh well..

Bush..is is so scandalous but no one in the GOP is taking any responsibility either.. acting and talking like they own the spot of Administration (and yes, setting up a shadow gov't at that, idiot other bush, it must be in the genes) while the country has been knee deep in doodoo..shame on them..

it is a very powerful picture..I've been wanting to dig up more stories now re. the Depression..I wonder how different things were in Europe? hmm..I'll have plenty of food for thought..

hugs

I posted another link that you might like...about the Depression...I have been reading about the Works Projects....and the Recovery...I am hoping that Obama's Team are too...

The Depression I think did extend into Europe...WWI threw much of the economy into a tailspin..and then many countries did not recover well from the war....( I spent alot of time studying the connections between the Depression / Poverty and War.....)

It's really into the domino effect now, so many jobs lost it is causing other businesses to go under.
AT & T will let go 12,000 workers & United is planning a large layoff after the holidays.
I worry about even if they bail the auto makers, people without jobs will not be buying new cars anyway. They have to get to the root cause- vanishing jobs & retirement funds.

A depression will be officially acknowledged when GDP loses 10%. Problem is whose figures to believe. We've been lied to about the true rate of inflation for years. The extent of the impending housing crash was hidden. We were also lied to about GDP growth in the 2nd Qtr '08. It was that particular lie that enabled the govt to say we weren't in a recession. Well those numbers turned out to be hoooey, as anyone who doesn't live in ivory towers has noticed for themselves.

What to call any Bush Tent Cities? Why not call them Crawford TX since that is where they should be located. Yup just pitch a tent on the surrounding land & there goes the neighborhood, his gentleman's estate (cow ranch without any cows) won't be worth a dime. Same for his new Dallas digs.
