So glad the sit in worked. The company allowed them to use the plant to make their case. They could have just had them hauled off by police as trespassing, so I give the company Kudos to let the workers make their case. Because they were union workers, they had specific terms and benefits in a contract. Most employers just have an at will arrangement. They can let you go at any time for any reason. All they owe is the wage you earned, and maybe vacation pay earned. They have to allow health insurance till the end of the month you are let go-- IF you even have health insurance. The it shifts over to COBRA, where you can pay through the nose to keep your health insurance.
No wonder employers fight so hard to keep unions out..... Unions give workers rights & benefits the employer would otherwise not offer.
and yes, Finally some GOOD News...for the little people ( us).....the Workers suceeded in their messege and getting Some Relief....
and maybe this will teach others what to do in the future......
( I was reading the other night that in South America that it, the Plant sit in has been used with great sucess...they even bring their families and children and granmommies....and one plant- even their chickens...so they would have food...)
Looks like the owners took the $$ and ran , bought & opened a new window/door factory-- I don't KNOW for sure, but I will guess non-union at a lower wage... it's an employers market right now.
