Winter Wonders: Fred and the Ladies ( yes, it is another Round Up)...12.17.07

(originally posted on Monday December 16th)

First off it was a weekend of Winter Snow Storms. Strong Winds and Snow across huge chucks of America. If you watched the Cleveland Browns Game, you saw how it was up by Lake Erie.It was a good weekend to sit and read and snuggle up with a mug of coco.....It was also a weekend of sadness, as we learned that Dan Fogelberg died yesterday, please read the two posts below and learn more about Prostate Cancer.I also posted a Pear Crisp Receipe below that is worth a read. I also know many folks are on Winter Break, so this will be just light reading. I even postponed my Torture Post, as I decided it was too harsh for Christmas Week. So Todays Round Up is mostly about the Ladies, and then a new find. Tomorrow is all about The Men.....so stay posted.

The song in the link is dedicated to Mary Ellen, one of our favorite Regulars at the Enigma Cafe , she is the voice of the Divine Democrat, she is funny, insightful and wise ( see the roundup below). She said Scarecrow's Dream was her favorite Dan song- so Click the Title- and it is in the Link.

THE ROUND UP:

  • Mr.Roger's Neighborhood
  • , is the kind of blog that makes you laugh and start humming his little songs again.I think Fred Rogers would have loved that it is trying to teach people how to be nice to each other and find Peace....and below we have the Ladies in His Neighborhood.

  • Redheaded Wisdom
  • DK has been a known commenter at so many blogs for about 2 years, I think many of us met her over at Dada's. She is well read and sharp, and so it was only a matter of time before she had a blog.....So as a present yes I gave her a blog this fall, I also gave it to her because I had to block Anony Comment that were leaving her trapped outside the Enigma Cafe...unable to comment. So I made a little blog for her, and told her to enjoy and do as she wished. Well, within a very short time she has become profecient, skilled and has given us wonderful posts on a variety of subjects from Art to Steroids.

  • Dizzy
  • Has a wonderful blog that has so much, music and humor and sharp wit and real smarts, this woman reads and pays attention and she does Roundups that are quick and full of MSM misses. If she is not a Mensa- she should be.She is also a military wife and homeschooling mom. Go on over and give her some time and some love. Her blog rocks.

  • Ramblings
  • Fran has an amazing blog that is full of all kinds of wonders, creatively done, and music to political insights to humor to great YouTubes, it has it all....Please do go to her Blog and See the Wexler Video and be sure to sign the Petition to IMPEACH Cheney, it is a great video.

  • DUSTY
  • Dusty has been blogging for about 3 years and her blog has always covered many issues with an amazing depth and timeliness. Her new format and layout are beautiful, so professional. She also writes the Sirens Blog with betmo, also another wonderful spot.....

  • Divine Dem
  • Mary Ellen is a wonderful part of Blogatopia, she has humor and a way of writing it is like you are sitting in the room with her and she is talking, that is a quite a skill to be able to write like that, it makes me laugh or cuss as needed.

  • Sumo
  • The Lovely lady is such find, she is so creative, she uses cartoons to illustrate her dialogue and her point, and she always hits home. She also has had quite a year and is working hard to get through it, I have been so inspired by her strength and courage.....and oh, she also can really really COOK. So do check out her reciepes.

  • ANOK
  • This great woman blogs about things that matter from issues of VETS, PTSD to Bushco lies, to other heartless realities, but she has a way putting it all in perspective and helping us somehose stay sane.

    **************************************************
  • Adgitdiaries
  • Gets a Special Award. And my final thought is about there is always one blog every Month that I award the Wellstone Award, it is the blog that tugs most at my heart and my conscience, and leaves me thinking for hours later....and warming my heart. It is like seeing "It's a Wonderful Life " for the very first time, it leaves you savoring the details. This month the Award goes to Agitdiaries, because this blog is truly Food for the Soul and the Mind....a Feast.

Have a good read....and enjoy the Winter Wonders. Namaste.

Correction! Captain Kangaroo was Iwo. Fred is even more intersting, amazing!
On another note, there was this wimpy little man (who just passed away) on PBS, gentle and quiet. Mr. Rogers is another one of those you would least suspect of being anything but what he now portrays to our youth. But Mr. Rogers was a U.S. Navy Seal, combat proven in Vietnam with over twenty-five confirmed kills to his name. He wore a long sleeve sweater to cover the many tattoo's on his forearm and biceps.

A master in small arms and hand-to-hand combat, able to disarm or kill in a heartbeat. He hid that away and won our hearts with his quiet wit and charm.

I will check out his suite so thanks enigma.

Hmmm Patriot, I don;t know but I think MrFred is so interesting, I went to a couple of different sites, and they said the Tattoo story is myth? and another said he was a merchant marine...and wikipedia does not mention his military history....SOoooo I think we have a true mystery on our hands...I guess you could go to Fred's site and ask him? because I am very intrigued now...The Wikipedia site ( which is not always 100% accurate) says that he was a minister, and I had heard that before....to be honest I thought he was a Canadian....but what do I know...( except that my son watched him and we had a bunch of his books on sharing and not hitting)

But I think we will have to figure this out....either way...minister or VET we love FRED....

Wow...thank you so much Enigma! I'm can't wait to check out some of these blogs, they all look great. I'm especially interested in the Fred Roger's blog. One of my daughters, Lauren, was just crazy about Mr.Roger's and she never missed his shows. Now, one of my granddaughter's from another daughter just discovered Mr.Rogers Neighborhood and she's crazy about him. He was such a gentle soul, how could you not love him?

    Thanks for the song, E4ever!

Enigma, you are the best! You always have the most thoughtful posts, truly spoken from the heart. I will be forever grateful you took the time to set up a blog for me when I was feeling shut out. It's been a real trippy experience. Now I look fwd to checking out some of the other ladies you listed & Mr Rogers, of course (what? a navy seal? wow, that kind of blows the whole Erik Prince testostoman B.W. image to hell).

Love those northern lights you pictured. Did you know they were seen as far south as Mexico City in the 50's during a solar max year? I found that out while researching sunspot activity. I've seen some eerie ones up in WA state, esp after Mt St Helens blew up. Nothing like the "real things" up in AK, though.

Sorry your weather is so awful. I saw the TV coverage. Hope you are managing to stay warm. I'll be a bit scarce again this week. Going over the river & through the mtns to grandfather's house. No snow, but icebox cold at night here. I'm wearing gloves as I type this! Be back in a couple days ...

    OMG..you sweet woman :)

Thank you E4E, this is a fine list of blogs and I am very proud to be included. No one however can write like you do.

When I read your posts, it's like sitting in front of a roaring fireplace with someone you respect, listening intently to them tell you a story that is so full of emotions and life.

Thank you for being among us here in the blogosphere..it wouldn't be the same without you ;)

Funny about the discussion of the actual Mr. Rogers. My son brought up the military rumor about him a while ago, (saying he'd heard Mr. Rogers was a sharp shooter military man, so I brought up his profile in wiki.
Following secondary school, he studied at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire between 1946 and 1948 before transferring to Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. He received a BA in music composition there in 1951.
At Rollins, Rogers met his wife, Sara Joanne Byrd, whom he married on July 9, 1952.[3] They had two children, James (born in 1959) and John (born in 1961), and two grandchildren.
He thus applied for a job at NBC in New York and was accepted because of his music degree. Rogers moved to New York in 1951 and spent three years working in the production staff for music-centered programming such as NBC Opera Theater
In 1954, he began working at WQED, a Pittsburgh public television station, as a puppeteer on a local children's series, The Children's Corner. For the next seven years, he worked with host Josie Carey in unscripted live TV.
For eight years during this period, he would leave the WQED studios during his lunch breaks to study theology at the nearby Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Rogers, however, was not interested in preaching, and after his ordination as a Presbyterian minister in 1962, he was specifically charged to continue his work with children's television.

So I think the navy seal info is a rumor. I can't picture this guy in his sneakers as a hard core combat man. The timelines don't jive either.

Also, I went to snopes (urban legends reference site)

    http://www.snopes.com/radiotv/tv/mrrogers.asp
It states "not only did he never serve in the military, but there were no gaps in his career when he could conceivably have served in the military."

So mild mannered Mr. Rogers really is the mild mannered person he portrayed. That's a relief, it would have been disturbing to have him be a gritty militia guy with a dual personality.

    Thanks for the blogroll mention.
I am a newbie in the world of blogging, but find it to be a wonderful outlet & excellent source of info & in depth thinking. Playground of the mind....
to address both current issues, and personal, real life stuff.

I tried to reach your page yesterday, through my reader and it was giving me fits, but I want to thank you for including me in your blog roundup :) I started my blog two years ago as a way of just venting and ranting...minding my own business really and I am humbled that other bloggers think that I am worth reading and smart, even!

Thank you so much (big hugs out to you for the sick car and cranky furnace).
