Thursday Night Christmas Music....12.06.07

*************************************
Some Christmas Music for tonight.....ahhh, back to the 1980's, and Bob Geldof attempting to get the World to remember that people were starving in Africa.....yes, it is the " Do they know it's Christmas " video.....the amazing part is HOW YOUNG everyone in this video looks...see if you can recognize and name everyone...Free Fruitcake if you can.

I was telling my son about this video, and I realized a couple of things, 1) I had never actually seen the video until last Christmas, and 2) this was the very last 45 that I EVER bought....ever....

okay try to win the Fruitcake....here are some names to start....George Micheal ( I think the other Wham guy is in it too), Sting, Paul Young, and.........

Are you referring to the Live Aid concert? I think Phil Collins helped out and it was televised.

Alas, I will miss the fruitcake. Besides the ones you mentioned, I saw Boy George, Phil Collins, Bono & Edge, and a whole lotta people I should recognize, I know.

Impeachment Alert: Will you be watching Wexler tonight live on Blog Talk Radio 9PM EST? Links at my place:

I had forgotten that Paul Young was the first vocalist on that song.

I know that Enigma has a special place in her heart for Paul Young.

For me the song still works. Unlike many holiday tunes it is not overplayed or trite.

Gryphen: I do have a wee soft spot for Mr Young....I love this song, and the story of it, that it was spontaneous and put together by so many people, people that were just starting their careers, and were able to think outside themselves, and share....( although I would bet good money that there were egos galore in that studio...)

DK: you are so funny...I don't recognize alot either....only some...and they look like such kids.....and 6-6 said "oh, poor phil, he looks older , and was already losing his hair...." Thank you for the Wexler reminder , I think I will try to be there....it is OVER 100,000 now...yahooo...

Kathy: LIVE AID followed up that summer, 1985 after the sucess of BANDAID, they wanted to do a LIVE show,( actually Phil Collins was the ONLY performer that performed in both places- he flew on the Concorde) and they did at Wembly and NY, that summer, July ? I think .....BANDAID in 1984 succeeded beyond any expectations...and yet today we still raise money to send to Africa which has been devastated by the AIDS.....thanks for coming...

I'm so out of touch with the music world. Not that I don't listen to it, but I don't watch concerts, never saw LIVE AID and other than the stuff I have on my iPod which needs updating, I haven't a clue. Can I have the fruit cake anyway? I'm one of those strange people that actually like it.

If I don't get back here before Christmas, I hope you have a very relaxing and peaceful Christmas! Oh...and I hope Santa is good to you. I hear he's only giving gifts to Progressives this year. ;-)

PP: I too hope you are right....that we see Change. much Change...we need it...

ME: you can have the Fruit Cake- even though you didn't guess...but you were the only one brave enough to ask for Cake...

NO: you named some great artists, none of whom were in the video, or part of BANDAID, or Live AID, or the American version....( click the title it has the video of the 1984 Hit Christmas Song. and then Ball of Light above did say that BANDAID is on Wikipedia, although I was trying to see if folks could recognioze the artists...) sorry for the confusion...

Ball of Light: thanks for visiting and yes, i too did listen to the Wexler Radio program, that was very exciting...he too is frustated with Democrats...

BETMO: you are right the WHAM guy, it turns out that he is not in this video- although there was a guy that looked like him...

Larry: you truly are the king of quotes as always...many hugs...thank you....

That was nice enigma I haven't heard that in a while. That period of time is a blank to em as I was pulling 100 hour weeks to say the least trying to start a family. It was all good to me though so Thanks!
