If anyone has better info on this please let me know...thanks.
or you can email me.
okay more details emerging- incident happened at 3pm....( it's odd that info out of Chicago is so hard to get- Like the shop shooting two weeks ago- it did not hit the airwaves for many hours)...
They are now saying 18 injured and 5 dead ( killed).
Masked gunman from another school....
Heartbreaking. I remember a Mom of a child who was killed in a school shooting said , someone said to her, we are so sorry, your daughter was in the wrong place at the wrong time. She said NO! That is not true. How could a student, being at school to learn be dubbed "the wrong place". She was there doing a good thing, when someone else made the wrong choice, in the wrong place.
The media has begun to stop sensationalizing such incidents. In the end the shooter shot himself, & committed suicide. What compels a person to do such a thing?
I have no idea Fran....
so sad...for everyone...all those families and students...and even the survivors will never be the same...
BUT...
the media barely covered- and it is a big school...it happened at 3pm and we heard nothing until after 5pm....
it is sad...
I still think guns are too easy to get in this country...
I know in the next town over, when Kip Kinkel did the high school shootings, the press focused on the *victims*, made a point to not give the shooter all kinds of press. They are trying to not make such an act as a *ticket to fame*. One student had a big history book in his backpack-- he did not realize till quite a while later, the book in his backpack took a bullet & stopped it from hitting the student!
My heart goes out to these families and students.
testing....testing
Ever notice that it's one race of people that is always involved in these school shootings things? Yes, those people. Maybe Michelle Malkin was right and we do need to intern all of those people for our own protection. Problem is, where do we find a big enough internment camp for all the white males in America?

Who is just snarking that it's irresponsible to accuse all members of an ethnic group of being evil when it's just a subset that's evil.
I have not heard of who or what ethnicity was involved and I don't watch FOX, so I have no idea what you are talking about...I just don't think like that Badtux....and I have no snark ....7 young lives Gone...
I think of young lives cut short...I think of someone in pain did something horrible....I think of families worried about loved ones...I think of young people that will never be the same once they survive that.....
People should be allowed to grieve...worry...pray.....
You can bet, Enigma, that if it had been a skinny Arab kid rather than a skinny white kid his ethnicity would have been blasted all over the airwaves. Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin and their ilk would be on "Beat the Press" and evening newscasts would have somberly intoned "Arabs: Should we round them all up and put them in internment camps?".
I'm glad you haven't noticed this racism on the part of our news media, where race is only an issue if the perp is non-white, but so it goes. It's still true that the majority of crimes in America are committed by, uhm, white people. Though because the race of white people is never mentioned on the evening news when they report a horrible crime, you can be excused for not knowing this.
As for 7 young lives cut short, after 100,000+ young lives cut short in Iraq, I'm sort of numb. Oh yeah, that's right, those young lives cut short in Iraq aren't *really* people because they're well, they're just paper cutouts in some kabuki somewhere. It's not as if they *really* bleed and hurt and die. I share some responsibility for the deaths of those young children in Iraq. Some of my tax money went into killing them. I share no responsibility for the deaths of those seven kids in the Midwest. Which should I feel worse about? What proportion of my grief should I spare for seven more bodies? Why should I grieve more for seven young people I had no part in killing, rather than for 100,000 young people that my tax dollars went towards killing?
Sorry if you feel this is rather crass. It's just I get cranky when seven kids in one place killed by a random maniac get more press than 100,000 kids in another place that you and I and everybody else in this country are responsible for killing in some way. If you want to see some of the bodies of those 100,000, you might want to wander over to Mia Culpa and Diane regularly posts some of their photos. We should all be grieving every day -- not just when seven kids get killed by a single maniac.

Badtux...
This post was put up merely to offer thoughts, support and prayers to the families in Illinois. I have friends in that area with college kids...It was not a place for a discussion. You are welcome to blog on your own blog on your thoughts and perspectives on this event, please take your discussion there- I am sure you will get people to join you....as I am off to work, I am asking for your respect.
I blog events such as this horrible tragedy in a spiritual manner...offering comfort and prayers.....to those that come here and are in my life....
There are still families grieving and young students fighting for their lives....As a Mother and a Nurse I am asking that people keep them in you thoughts.
Namaste.
that's my alma mater...thanks for letting me know - the school is out in the middle of corn fields, literally - it's hard to imagine a town nearby but looks like there was..
