CALIFORNIA FIRES STILL RAGE.....
*********************************
Reprinted from Newsweek:::
"As California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger discussed the "unprecedented wildfire siege" that since late June has burned more than 700,000 acres in his state, a handful of Buddhist monks in the Los Padres National Forest valiantly protected their monastery while fire crews from Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere in the United States, including 2,000 California National Guardsmen, prepared to lend a hand to state efforts. Just another summer day in California.
The Buddhists won their battle—their retreat was spared—but the war rages on. A mere month into the burning season, the toll has already eclipsed the more than $1 billion in damage sustained from fires in 2007, when the bulk of the flames stayed south, in San Diego and Orange counties. But this year, they're touring the north, and spreading to some of California's most treasured landscapes—Big Sur among them.
So far nearly 20,000 personnel, in an army of planes and 1,590 fire trucks, have been deployed to stop them, dousing the scenery with 4 million gallons of water and flame retardant. After three weeks, they're exhausted, having pulled 24-hour shifts in weather that's unseasonably hot. And there's no relief in sight. "The fire season is going to last for the next few months. This is only the beginning," Schwarzenegger told reporters. His message to D.C.: send more funds, stat. And, we'd add, if at all possible, more monks."
So I have two questions...
(1) When do the Locusts arrive- I mean with all of these storms, and fires and floods, they must be on their way?
(2)So Far Arnie has only had 400 National Guard allowed to him , and there are literally miles and miles on Fire....So Shouldn't Other States and other Gov's start sending help his way ?

Good question about Ntl Guard. Oregon Ntl Guard was called/deployed to help post Katrina--While it was still majorly flooded. FEMA was supposed to have reimbursed Oregon fo deploying over 2,100 soldiers and their equipment to New Orleans in less than three days. However, over a year later, FEMA had not reimbursed the Oregon National Guard for the $2.7 million the Guard expended in the relief effort.
Oregon was pissed! FEMA kept stalling & asking for duplications of the same paperwork, delays, excuses, non responses..... to the point Oregon was prepared to take legal action.
So if other States seem gun shy to step forward-- it is stuff like that-- that is gumming up the works (not to mention lots of Ntl Guard is in the middle east).
Chalk it up as another decider disaster.
all of our guard is there and equipment..
in Katrina- the first 24 hours- ONLY 400 guard were sent- your guard came to help...and should have been reimbursed...if I was Governor of a State I would raise holy hell and do all I can to keep my guard- and I would encourage ALL other gov's to raise hell- if Arnie was smart- and since there are monthes of Fire to go....I think he should....
but since I know I am not ever going to be a gov...I hope and pray that the Red Cross is well funded and managed in Cali and all over...
