The West is On Fire....

This Summer we have watched the West Swelter, and the Midwest flood. The West was set ablaze in the past week by Lightening, supposedly 800-1200 fires in California were ignited this way. To our friends out there, please stay safe and stay indoors. Take a wet bandana with you if your are outside to shield your lungs from the soot and air quality.Use your AC, and line windows and doors with wet towels.

Having lived through some of the bad fire years there, one big concerning factor I haven't heard addressed in any detail is the oddity of this much fire this early in the season. Think of it. Summer is only barely going. The chapparel covered hills will not reach the driest stage until Sept-Oct. Even then, it usually takes a Santa Ana wind to spread fire this quickly. Yes, I know about the strange lightning storm, but this strikes me as another indicator of climate change.

1200 seperate fires, they claim 800 by lightening....I lived out west for many years- I do not remember such a summer either....and 420,000 acres...and FINALLY yesterday they brought in the National Guard to help....finally...don't they have big Drop tankers that would have helped?

Big Sur is on fire- down from where I used to live- actually the highway up to where I used to live is shutting down and Carmel is housing alot of Big Sur people....

I don't ever remember Big Sur catching fire....
I also don't remember alot of lightening storms on the Coast....

Very little has been said about the Health Effects of this either...

Sorry DK I don't think the Media is paying atttention....

( BTW this is a National Geographic photo- and YES the horses were evacuated...)
