This week is finally over. Here in the Heartland summer is ending, leaves are changing and scattering, yet it is Indian Summer, which means we have heat like August. I have a kitchen window, and beside my window there is Morning Glory that is winding up past the window keeping me company as I was dishes. There are chickadees, sparrows and cardinals sharing a tree. I can watch my laundry on the line, swinging with the breeze. It is through this window that I had the wonders of summer. I watch the squirrels hustling about, and chipmunks scurrying like there is a sale on nuts. I watch the rabbits quietly hopping about raiding my neighbor's garden.

This same neighbor I watched spend hours cursing as he set up a hammock. I also watched him plant pumpkins with great anticipation. He is so young , in his early thirties, and he does everything with enthusiasm. He plays the guitar on his porch, and has been working on GooGoo Dolls all summer. I am grateful for that. One Summer eve a few weeks back I watched him dancing in the back with his girlfriend. Golden leaves were falling, and the twilight was shifting through the leaves scattering the light on them as they danced. She was showing him how to Irish Reel and they were both laughing. Yet they looked so young and so graceful. They were suspended in time.

Those Morning Glories that drape my kitchen window make me look out and look forward and have some Hope.

****[Click the Title: YouTube Special a friend of mine discovered the Wonders of Edward Hopper this week and as she recovers from a cold , I have placed a wonderful Hopper Exhibit, with music by Death Cab for Cutie " I Need You So Much Closer". Whenever I watch this , the NightHawks Cafe still melts me. I love how he captures the Light, and even when people are alone, there is warmth......enjoy. Friday Music will be up tonight.]****

MONK: that's okay...he kept playing them on the porch....and I had to ask my son 'WHO is he trying to play.".....and he laughed..."geeez- you are stuck back in the seventies" he said....( I am ...only sometimes...the rest of the time I am stuck in the 80's ;-)

Have a good weekend friend....

Hopper is good medicine. I always get lost in the dog-playing-in-the-field-behind-the-old-house one. There is a woman in a green dress & her rather disreptuable manfriend on the steps watching the dog. All the life of the painting is in the dog.

GooGooDolls played to an unexpected sellout crowd at a small university here last weekend. The university was amazed. They've never sold out any show before.

I tried morning glories from seed this year. no luck! I think our soil is too poor. I read aztec priests used them for hallucenogenic rituals. I just like their colors & shapes. ~~ D.K.

DK: I usually don't have good luck with them, but I always try to grow them anyways,.....funny, this picture was online, because I can't take a picture where they are- it is an odd angle- but they are exactly this color...I do love the Googoo dolls, but I only know three of their songs- which is why Rob laughs, because I never recognize them...and I always think of you when I see the painting with the dog...
