We need Art to feed our Souls....

*{Click the Title: a Gustav Klimt gallery tour set to Music]*
He gained great fame due to this one Painting, "The Kiss". He was raised by a father that was an engraver, hence his loving use of Silver and Gold. He loved the ladies, and he painted them with love and some say lust, he was the source of much controversy due to his erotic paintings in the Victorian Era ( Art Noveau era). He originally had a studio with his brother and a friend, but by the time he reached his forties he was alone and he poured himself into his art, he specialized in mosaics and also murals, today he would be called Mixed Media Specialist. He was ahead of his time in so many ways, and yet his way of weaving medias and subjects was inspiring. His paintings of trees and nature were embracing and modern. His best works were created in this lonely era, where he explored his own boundaries and matters of the heart.

One of my all time favorites. I could look at his work endlessly. His mosaic Tree of Life is the inspiration for the one I am working on in my kitchen. Hopefully it will be done by Thanksgiving.

For me, the Kiss has meant different things at different stages of my life.
In college, where it hung above my bed, it was a personal and bravado statement of sexual freedom and independence. At one time I saw male aggression and female submissiveness and perhaps helplessness, and during this period I didn't like the painting. Later his pose suggested lustful restraint, a desiring yet caring tenderness, and her faced became warmed and beatific, her hand not pulling his away but willingly relaxed, her shoulder raised to touch more of his skin. Now I think Klimt's masterfulness, the eroticsm of the painting, is expressed best by the seamless blending of their robes.

I think the Adele bloch Beaher 1 sold for over $130 million dollars. I had thought about getting a print of tht for about $50 dollars.

Let's Talk: I am always amazed when they tell about these paintings selling for HUGE amounts...takes my breath away....and makes me wish I knew how to REALLY paint...

Mirth: you are the most poetic person I know, and I too have often looked at this painting with different perspectives...

AZ: thanks friend...I just love putting posts together late at night...it is like wrapping Christmas Presents and waiting to see how people like the gifts in the mornings...many hugs...
