Saturday Thoughts..about the Damn Debate vs. the Coffee Shop Debate by We The People.....11.17.07
*****************************
Are you still digesting The Debate? Are you still pondering the ludicrous Wolf Questions, and his manhandling of the event, the staged contrived HillFest that it was ? So here is the question ...WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE ASKED AT THE DEBATES ??? OR WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAY TO WOLF......go on ..have at it....
( and try not to wake Xena on the bed...she fell asleep about the time that Hillary cackled about her Abestos PantSuit...)
Okay I will go first....
(1) How Would You as President get the Troops Home and How Soon? And What would You do to Improve their Care Once Home? ( that is a VA Reform Question)
(2) Would you as President Pursue Impeachment Proceedings against the Bush Administration? ( This Obviously Includes Bush and Cheney and others?
(3) What is Your Stand on Torture ? ( and when answering this please feel free to share What you would do about Gitmo, Renditioning, and ALL Torture and People being held as Enemy Combatants....
(4) Would You as President Restore Our Rights as Citizens that have Real Constitution? Would You Suspend the Patriot Act in an effort to Restore Our Rights ?
(5) 49 Million without Healthcare in this Country, and Millions more not getting Proper Care from Our Current VA System, What Would YOU Do to Improve the Care of So Many Millions...21 Million Women, Millions of Elderly, and 10 Million Children?
Okay that is my top FIVE....let's see How Many We The People Can Come Up With...

much to think about- hafta think. more later....
1)What are you going to do to make amends to the people of iraq? Follow up- what are you going to do to restore diplomacy around the world?
2)What steps will you take to restore the constitution and citizens' bill of rights?
3)What steps will you take towards cutting our pollution levels and holding corporations accountable for pollution? Follow up- what steps will you take to move a public service program encouraging citizens to conserve, recycle and reduce forward- like the anti litter campaign in the 1970's and the restoring the ozone movement/acid rain movement of the 1980's?
4)How will you buck the pull of the corporate lobbyists and special interest groups? Follow up- what is your plan to move campaign finance reform and election reform forward?
5)What is your plan for restoring an open, transparent government- no secrets?
A) Would you promote removing or significantly increasing the artificial salary cap on wages sugject to FICA payroll tax? If not, why not? (Bush and Hillary are dead set against this)
B) What are your plans for alternative energy technology? Do they include nuclear? If so, how will the waste be safely stored? (oh yeah, I already asked this over at my place, heheh).
These are all good questions, Enigma. The "debate" format as practiced here in America is not conducive to proper in-depth discussion. Plus many candidates feel a vague answer leaves them less vulnerable to disagreement & more wiggle room later. I would much prefer to see a round-table discussion, or a REAL town hall type question & answer session (not the planted diamonds or pearls questions). Let someone like Bill Moyers moderate those type of events & have the networks cover in primetime.
These people are applying for the highest elected position in America, some might even argue The World, and we act as if we are not even allowed to do the same simplest Q&A a grocery-bagger endures to work at Wal-Mart!
I don't have TV, so I have missed all the debates. It's been a long time since people actually debated the issues, anyway. They are much too busy trying to stick in little asides that have little to nothing to do with the questions and issues raised.
I am mostly staying out of all the action at the moment. I like Edwards for his concerns about the poor. I love Kucinich and know that he'd be just the ticket for a fascist overthrow of this country.
My spirits are very, very low.
Lulu...I am so sorry your spirits are low...I think alot of folks are battling that...it has been hard times ...Dark Times..many hard years now...But I think your concerns are valid...sorry about the TV..the only reason we have TV ( life with a teen) is because we must must have John Stewart every every day...and Dave L..and Jimmy Kimmel...and Stephen Colbert...Comedy is the ONLY thing keeping us sane.....even rent some...The Office- first year, or Studio 60 is exellent too...( when you say you don't have TV, I don't mean if that means Cable or an actual tv....do you have a DVD player?)....at this point ALL of us need distraction....to help us stay centered and focused..because if we get too down it is too easy to withdraw and give up...and we can not do that....WHY? because that is what Bushco wants....
food for thought...many hugs and much love....
DK: What great questions...and you even brought up the HOT ones....wow....way to go...and I have to got read your HOT post too....you are right we need a Real Town Hall debate...the real thing....
Betmo: there you go, yeah, let's talk about EV issues, let's put them Back on the Table...and let's talk about returning some power to the people....and yes, let's talk about ending this Corporotized Era of Agony.....great questions...all of you....
And here is my Response to Wolf and his frigging Pearls Question" Wolf, I am insulted that such a shallow meaningless question would be asked, is someone striving for a Boxer:Brief Moment? Let's talk about Real issues , shall we?"
I don't have any questions but I canm give you the real answers which they will do nothing.
Given air travel overcrowding and security considerations, what would you do to encourage high speed rail and/or coordination between all forms of transportation nationwide.
I's like to see questions about rendition, FISA, Guantanamo, military tribunals, the Patriot Act, and signing statements. There have been none. I would also like to see every candidate asked every question, rotating the order.
I do not give a damn whether Hillary prefers pearls or diamonds.
enigma
I am afraid I found it to be a circus! We have to concentrate on bringing our America back to where it was before Bush instituted his America and no one touts that.
Patriot: of course it was a circus ( it was CNN and Wolf) that was a given....the Anderson debate was atleast more even handed..I am so sick of these debates where the "Commentators" or "Moderators" manipulate and contrive...and with heavy handed manuvers control the dicussion , the questions and the TIME..I want to HEAR from the Candiates, I don't want to hear Wolf, So in the end atleast the Anderson debate had questions From US.....I have watched it over and over this wekend..my feelings have not mellowed.....How do we get Back the OLD America - the one that has been gone sooooo long..I don't know Patriot...
TOMCAT: yup...all of those need to asked Loud and clear...NOW...yeah, Hill's jewlery is a stupid waste of breath...
Jamie : transporatation and infrastructure- good, very good...( have not heard any about that ? have you ?)
Larry: you ? no questions? I just don't believe that?.....are you sure...ANYTHING can be asked at the Enigma Fantasy Debate..Nothing is Offlimits...
I have not been able to afford cable or dish, so I have been cut off from all the debates so far.
I pay a huge part of my income for medical expenses- even with insurance. So I guess medical is a big issue for me & a whole lot of other people.
I am interested in the environment- oil use, nukes, the need to subsidize solar, make better mpg requirements ASAP, & fund education.
Pensions are supposed to be protected, the guvmnt should not allow vanishing pensions, or worse the CEO walks away with millions & the worker bees lose everything.
Social security money should be protected and not mismanaged as it currently is.
And a $9 trillion dollar debt is not acceptable.
We need to restore law & order.
I am so sorry about the tv situation and the medical situation, it is not right at all.....there are so many that have that issue.. we always just barely.... pull it together so I understand...so many of the issues are on all of our minds...horrible...that we cant get these answered by the next president...
I think everyones questions are great. I would love to see everyone asked these questions and given equal time.
me2...sigh..
Just to clarify, for me not having TV is an active choice. I see TV as an anesthetic designed to keep us from waking up to what is going on. Major distraction from the truth.
I can watch Jon Stewart and S. Colbert on the internet, miss the ads and the nattering that isn't substantial, and have lots of time to read and write and do other stuff that I truly love.
I'm in my 60s and have seen lots of TV. For me, there isn't much I really value anymore.
Lulu: No worries, I just felt bad about it, I view TV as a mixed blessing, and that very much you have to limit and choose what you want to see. For me I think the debates on TV is easier to watch, but I dont know if it was simlucast on the internet at the same time. There is National Geo, and cspan, and movies, and wonderful stuff on PBS, I guess a fair amount is on the computer now or dvd.....and to be honest- I view watching the debates as a neccesary evil- as much as they infuriate me- they need to be watched...and we are monitoring our future, we have to....so we never ever have a Bush thrown on our plate again...
A Bush on the plate equals Impeachment on the table?
But seriously, congress needs to stick a fork in it!
They did what Dada was predicting *issued a sternly worded timeline on the additional $50 billion for war request*. Talk about bad reruns.
Plus this kick ass timeline is December 2008.
We want those troops out of there sometime late in the 6th year of this occupation....sometime around the election. That's tellin' em.
