Mornings on the Front Porch....

**************************************
So this is The Porch, time to share it with you....I have written about it numerous times....it is where I make Sun Tea and sometime write on my laptop and read....In front of the porch are beautiful Lilacs, and on the table lavender petunias and pansies.....There is my is my old Vintage Bike, that I bought for 30 dollars last summer at a yard sale...and that I love...and everything else...Curbside Wonders acquired on Sunday Eves...Much paint...much glue...total spent on repairs and glue...20 Dollars....so I have a 3 dollar garden and 20 dollar porch...

It is where I talk to 6-6 when it is hot...and where we eavesdrop on neighborhood life....the Hum of crickets chirping...listen to college kids....and sniff the smells of wafting Burnt BBQ dogs...and fresh mown lawns....Summer.

I am working on my book "Silent Fallout"...so I am sitting out there alot...that is where you can find me...and when it gets too hot....the Backyard Oasis....

About Books on the Porch....
I have been sitting on that porch reading alot...right now I am reading an amazing book about Anne Frank called "Anne Frank a Biography" and the author Melissa Muller has carefully investigated Anne's Life before and during her diary, and she goes into great Detail what 1930's Germany and Holland were really like, what Fascism really looked like.

I am also reading Books by Pema Chodrun and also a book called " Finding Freedom" by Jarvis Masters a Deathrow Inmate ....Pema Chodrun's book "Practicing Peace in Times of War" is so thoughtful and relevant...Pema has really touched me, and I realize that there are many fences I need to mend, people that I have hurt by being passionate and caring too much, because sadly in many ways this Government has effected my life in so many ways. But it has at times this year made me too strong in what I cling to, so much so that I have pushed people away or stood my ground too fiercely. But when I did that I also closed a piece of my heart. So I am working through that. But to any that I have hurt in recent monthes being too strong willed and opinionated, I offer you some peace of my porch and some Tea.....So I am sharing some Pema with you below....

•" When we start out on a spiritual path we often have ideals we think we're supposed to live up to. We feel we're supposed to be better than we are in some way. But with this practice you take yourself completely as you are. Then ironically, taking in pain - breathing it in for yourself and all others in the same boat as you are - heightens your awareness of exactly where you're stuck."

•" If we learn to open our hearts, anyone, including the people who drive us crazy, can be our teacher."

• "There's a reason you can learn from everything: you have basic wisdom, basic intelligence, and basic goodness".

• "Compassionate action starts with seeing yourself when you start to make yourself right and when you start to make yourself wrong. At that point you could just contemplate the fact that there is a larger alternative to either of those, a more tender, shaky kind of place where you could live." - In the Gap Between Right and Wrong

You are truly the Queen of bargain shopping. You should have your own TV series to replace some of those pathetic DIY things on the tube. You know the ones, where some buxom blonde airhead demonstrates to an audience of equally moronic viewers how to sprinkle glitter on a flower pot and such...

Oh, yeah -- again. Love lilacs, the smell is great. As for sitting outside in the summer, it's a bit hard to do here without the mosquitoes eating you alive and the ubiquitous sounds of leaf blowers and cars without mufflers driving you insane.

Do you not get either of these in your local?

ahhhh Bugs..that EAT...ouch...whelp...Citronella candles work pretty good...and MINT seems to work keeping them away- I am using it in the front and the back...and also I wear essential oils- I mix patchouli and eucolytus with a touch of lemon and lavendar- and I also spray the pillows with that mist- and so far this is the 2nd summer I have done that and it works.... I don't do chemicals...

Have been pretty lucky about the neighbors gardening techniques- no blowers, and only one nut neighbor who every three weeks shows up to do his lawn with a chainsaw ( I am not kidding -wish I were...)

But no - pretty quiet out there on the porch..and I am urban- 2 miles from heart of downtown...so as far as an Urban Oasis I am totally lucky....

NOW about the SHOW..what an awesome idea...I would love that- because I know if I can do it anyone can....I think anyone can be creative..I really believe that...but alas I am not buxom...and so I doubt HGTV will come calling....ce la vie...

Well, I just came in from planting a few remaining plants in the new garden area, and even though I've applied two layers of Deet (which is the only thing that actually works for me), the mosquitoes ate me alive -- in the scorching sun. They seem to have a particular affinity for my sour old blood. Even worse, the chipmunks and/or rabbits have eaten all the tomatoes, peppers, vines and many of the ornamentals I planted earlier. Grrr...
As for all the touchy, feely stuff, I locked all that stuff up years ago. Can't afford it around here. But if I could sit on your porch and share a bit of refreshment, I would.
Take Care, Enigma.

E4E~ A delightful summer post! Your porch looks so inviting- the colors are wonderful.Iced tea and a good book on a warm summer's afternoon sounds pretty ideal.Wouldn't waste a fret if we were you about HGTV. It is certainly their loss. Besides- ever notice how often they say "I LOVE it!" or "Wha-la"(for 'voila')on that channel? Yuck!
I've read that spraying Listerine around keeps nasty mosquito's away. As does Skin-so-Soft. I don't mind the smell, but old Mrs. Lewis who I do gardening for thinks it makes her smell like a French whore.
What's not to like??
