The Video of the Fallen Woman

******************************
( This Post was started in "We All Fall Down" above)
Her name was Esmine Green, she was 49 years old, she was from Jamica, she was a mother of six. She was waiting for Care, she was waiting for a Psychiatric Care, she was waiting for a bed, she had been there for over 24 hours, sitting there in that waiting room. It is unclear if she was given ANY Care. It is also clear that she must have had other Medical Problems. Atleast 6 bystanders did not even offer help or aid, and atleast 6 Employees did NOTHING.Criminal Negligence. If this does not Enrage you....OUR Healthcare System is BROKEN....and it is not just a matter of "beds", it a matter being starved of COMPASSION.

But the bigger worry, is that everyday across this country people sit waiting in rooms for Care...and this is what they encounter....Negligence.

She had lost her home and her job in recent weeks. She was devastated, and also she had been sending home money to her six children in Jamica. Some of her children were grown, but her youngest was a teenager. She was very spiritual and connected to her church, there has been video on TV showing her at Church. She was a lovely woman. To know that a beautiful mom, a woman could fall to such a fate, such a death is beyond tragic......it is inhumane.

"With courage you will dare to take risks, have the strength to be compassionate, and the wisdom to be humble. Courage is the foundation of integrity."
Kashavan Nair

"We frail humans are at one time capable of the greatest good and, at the same time, capable of the greatest evil. Change will only come about when each of us takes up the daily struggle ourselves to be more forgiving, compassionate, loving, and above all joyful in the knowledge that, by some miracle of grace, we can change as those around us can change too."
Mairead Maguire

"I look forward confidently to the day when all who work for a living will be one with no thought to their separateness as Negroes, Jews, Italians or any other distinctions. This will be the day when we bring into full realization the American dream -- a dream yet unfulfilled. A dream of equality of opportunity, of privilege and property widely distributed; a dream of a land where men will not take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few; a dream of a land where men will not argue that the color of a man's skin determines the content of his character; a dream of a nation where all our gifts and resources are held not for ourselves alone, but as instruments of service for the rest of humanity; the dream of a country where every man will respect the dignity and worth of the human personality."
Martin Luther King,Jr.

Very disturbing and most foul. The hospital is now attempting to save itself from doom is an example of our sickness. Make obviously needed changes after the fact and when scared of the repercussions. Shame on them...and us as a society. This, I am relatively sure, is only the tip of the iceberg.

I know it is the tip of a very big Iceberg....and one that is worth seeing....even as we hit it.....it angers me, it sickens me...as a Nurse it really breaks my heart....

On another front , I know that what happened to her....it is VERY real....
I went to an ER this winter after a really bad Fall ( old rickety stairs in old house) anyways...I smashed my hip very badly ( it happened in February- I still have the bruise)...and the thing about it....I was treated terribly...so bad I have not really ever blogged the whole story....I can't....but as a nurse I KNOW that we are in trouble...and as a Mom and a Human...I know that it is worse than it should be....and the video proves that they were all willing to lie about that poor woman 's death....I have seen dogs treated better....

I am seriously thinking of writing to the hospital and Offering to teach them a COMPASSION Course....

It is a Compassion Famine, as you say. I want to think that it was all some horrible isolated incident. But in my heart I fear Poetryman is right & I fear what the coldness of uncaring people means for society. The true cost of turning away from others' pain & suffering is our humanity. Where was the humanity in that ER room?
