interesting question. i would immediately give 1/2 away to both direct care for women with AIDS, and hospice care for women with breast/lung cancer

i'd have to use some to take care of personal needs. and then i'd make a signif donation to the Clinton campaign, and to animal shelters.

what i WOULN'T do is buy a McMansion, 3 cars, ostentatious jewlery...............

Ok, since I don't buy lottery tickets so there's no chance of me winning a bundle from that, which means my altruism won't be tested ;>, I'll say I would give every penny to the John Edwards campaign.

well now I have actually thought about winning, back when I used play the CA Lotto. That was before I found out my chances of winning were only slightly greater than if I'd never been born!

That said, I would first endow all my neices & nephews college educations. I'd take my Dad to all the places he's dreamed of his whole long life (he might need a nice nurse companion). Then I'd buy my struggling sister a crystal palace (just kidding, a nice big family home). Then I'd look into a private tropical island for me & Hubby (sorry, yes, every bell & whistle imaginable). Of course, a certain coastal calif paradise would be purchased & gifted.

Charity endowments: I have plenty of "pet" projects, homeless Share'N'Care projects, alzheimers research, cancer care. But, no jewelry! Oh & you do realize that you have to pay taxes on the $33mil up front, so your net, depending on which state you live in, is probably 50% of that. Just in case you were counting on the whole thing!

enigma it is $167 million here and has gone as high as %300 million in the past. anyway if I won I would give some to everyone I know. I forget what the cut is but I think after taxes if you take it as a lump sum you are lucky to get 50% but that seems to be the popular thing to do. heck to have such worries! I wish you had them!

If I won a million dollars.... Well, of course uncle sam gets a 3rd. Then... I'd probably pay off all our debt - house - then give some to wounded warriors, wiki project and save the rest.

Ours is over 80 million which is about 33 million after cash value and tax deductions. So....

Three houses and two condos. That's about 2 million.

Might as well furnish them for another half mil

Everybody's favorite car as long as they don't go crazy. quarter mil.

Trust fund to live on for the rest of my natural life 1 Mil.

One incredible six month trip around the world being rediculously extravagant - Heck go crazy at 2 and a quarter mil.

2 mil for totally frivoulous contingencies and a little something to leave the kids.

That leaves 25 million for a charitable foundation to support all of the times I've seen a need and said, "Gee I wish I could do more". That would keep me busy, happy, engaged in the world ... cheap at twice the price.

I could never win either. Lotto is a tax levied mosty on the poor that I prefer not to buy into.

I would buy up several AM stations in the midwest, starting with Fort Wayne, and IMMEDIATELY begin broadcasting Air America to the great blinded masses in the red heartland!

Okay. . .that just got me way too excited. . .=)

I would do like that old tv show the millionare..and secretly help people, and take care of my friends first, then onto charities. That much dough i would open and staff an LGBT community center will full services all the way to in patient if needed for all the people , but No one turned away due to lack of funds. It would also be educational and political. It would outshine the Human Rights Campaign Fund by miles an be the largest umbrella organization for LGBT rights ON THE PLANET !!! and it would have an international component as well. I mean everything !

..you said dream big..there it is ...oh GREAT song by the way - a real fav. of mine.

I know exactly what I'd do with the money.

After taking care of personal financial obligations, taking care of friends and family, and making proper nest egg investments type stuff - I would buy up as much rental property as I could and LOWER everyone's rent to a reasonable amount so that they can live better.

I would set up an annual grant program for needy families (number an amount dependent on how much I could allocate for the program), set up a scholarship fund for disadvantaged high school students, and start a food for needy families program, where every year (particularly during the holidays) antire dinners would arrive at the family's doorstep, free of charge - and without donations form the neighborhood (unless they were inspired to donate, which would be cool).

I would also start up businesses that practice fair trade, utilize local farmers and other local business folks products while hiring disadvantaged folks for fair wages....

I might even buy a gas station and charge a whole lot less for gas at the pump - just so folks could get to work with it costing them their retirement.
