Click the title for more and do read the article down below about Planned Layoffs....I am a little confused....the Post Office has never run out of money before....that I know of...even in many of the Past Depressions and other Economic Crises we have had in the past 150 years....

well for one thing, the PO needs to start charging junk mail advertisers the same postal rates as we regular people pay. That will increase their revenue. But the main reason we did not see the post office in such trouble in past economic crises was there were so few alternatives.
yeah ...junk mail...for sure.....and maybe cut down to 5 days week...I dont know...I just think it is sad...
Think about last year's gas prices--- that was a major hit, and what with e mail, faxes, text messaging, blackberries, cell phones & i phones, the post office is very much so obsolete.
Things can be sent across the world in a matter of seconds- why use the post office?
Much of what is sent is junk mail- taxes, and bills.
I still have elderly relatives not on e mail who like to send actual letters. It is fun to get human correspondence arrive in the mail box...
the six day a week delivery thing is over the top. Our neighbors to the north- Canada does 5 x a week delivery & do just fine.
I could live with that.
Think about it-- if I said here's 42 cents-- deliver this a few thousand miles away (or .27 cents for a postcard..) you'd tell me no way.
The PO has lots of high paid positions too.
