SUNDAY NIGHT MUSIC....

Summer Breeze by Seals&Croft....

The sun is setting and for a few moments it looked like a Thunderstorm was moving through....now there is only a Summer Breeze....

I took Little Yellow Dog for a walk...
she panted..
I panted....
It was a short walk...

And on the Summer Breeze.....
There are wet petunias, and Lilacs and Honey Suckle,
freshly sprayed lawns that still have that heaven scent
of being freshly mowed and the afternoon sun.....
Young college Boys burning hot dogs on grills
and drinking On Sale Beer on porches...
Young Girls fresh from the shower
with their wet Herbal Essence Hair
and Baby Love perfume spray and
and cocanut suntan lotion...
walking up the street in sundresses
with flip flops and chatter....
And young chidren playing tag with
wet towels and Coppertone smiles and
dripping popsicles...
as they run through sprinklers....
and cats draped across the wicker
and porch railings...
lulled to sleep by the Summer Breeze.

Seals & Crofts?

Now you are taking about my SECRET music favorites.

It was hard to be a macho guy in the seventies and admit to liking Ruby Jean & Billie Lee.

Washington just isn't convinced that Summer should be on the arrival schedule. We have had off and on rain for days and temps around 60 ... It's JUNE

Love the Seals & Crofts anyway.

ahhh more NW "summer"...it will come...by July it will be sunny and warm....Hang in there...sometimes we just need a little Seals&Croft...

Gryphen::
Ahhh.,.....yeah.,...Shame on anyone not appreciating the great summer greats ( if you had Billie Lee and Ruby Jean on you had plenty of gorgeous girls hanging round ;-)

...Seals&Croft, America, Fleetwood Mac, Bread,Loggins&Messina...Old Eagles...these are the best summer Radio days of the 70s and 80's.....

Flannery O'Connor's stories are undoubtedly great. My favorite short story of all time, though, goes to Kate Chopin. It's called "Love on the Bon-Dieu". 14 pages of shear beauty. Have you ever read that one, Enigma?

Beautiful poetry there...very evocative of Summer. And I love "Summer Breeze," which was popular when I was in college and reminds me of sitting outside on the "quad" studying for finals on a warm May day, while someone blasts Seals & Crofts from an upstairs dorm window. On a record player, of course. No CDs back then!

That was a great walk down your street! Makes me miss the old days of big overgrown trees shading the streets & lots of green grass to walk barefoot in.

I just put up an RFK vid/quote that knocked my socks off (and ya know I luvs my sox) -- Tim Russert played it today. A prediction from 40-yrs ago!

DK:::
Oh that would be awesome...I will be right over...
I love my RFK....will it knock my flipflops off??

Maui:::
Hey there...I too have lots of memories attached to this song...and yes, some studying...and some boyfriends...clove cigarettes...cheap wine...and my favorite patched jeans...oh those were such nice days...didn't you love those albums...and the beautiful covers ?

Will:
I am for sure going to find that story.....and goody- a new author- can't wait...

Larry:::

Enigma - I borrowed the beautiful little boy picture you used for Obama 08. Hope you don't mind.

Please check out the amazing guest we are having on our radio show tomorrow. He is a true legend and has the most controversial book out there, which almost didn't get published.

Also, I have come up with a group of VP candidates and I wonder what you think of any of these. It's next to the little bird's mouths all competing for food ... if you know what I mean.

It has been dreadfully hot in Upstate New York.

Try 94' with a heat index of 100'!

Simply awful. I hate it. Jim hates it and Ginger hates it. All we have are window a/c units. They work OK but few people have central air conditioning.

Allegedly a cold front is on the way and relief arrives tomorrow. I sure hope so because this heat is brutal.

Speaking of dogs, Ginger got a tick attached to her. Jim found it first thing Sunday morning and we removed it -- what a gross insect and poor Ginger. I felt terrible for her. I called the vet this morning and he said unless the site swells, all should be OK.

D.K. Raed said...

just a brief note to Christopher about ticks: I dealt with them constantly in San Diego. Eventually you develop a technique. They are completely gross & are especially hard to kill. I used to check my dogs/cats daily for "bumps". Then I'd part their fur & find the tick. If it was attached, I'd use a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol (assuming not near the dog's eyes). Just keep dousing the tick & eventually it will start to let go. That's when I used tweezers to carefully remove DOWN BELOW THE HEAD/MOUTH. Never grab it above that point or the head will remain buried in the skin & cause infection. Sometimes I had to keep loosening the head with tweezers & then redousing the tick with alcohol. Have a kleenex ready to put the tick on (it is still alive) & flush it down the toilet! I must've done this a thousand times & never had one bite get infected. Don't listen to anyone who talks about lighting them on fire or squeezing them til they pop.

One more thing (hope you don't mind, Enigma, I just think ticks are a terrible parasite): if you are in a tick area, think seriously about putting your pet on Frontline (ask your vet). The fleas & ticks it kills will also save YOU from getting bit!

As climate change becomes a reality, we will all be dealing with these tropical pests.

DK,

Excellent info. I hadn't heard of lighting them. Jim (Mr. RN student) gloved up and slathered the hideous thing with alcohol.

I'm all for bio-diversity just as long as ticks aren't part of the picture.

D.K. Raed said...

Christopher, sounds like Jim knew what to do (I never thought of using gloves)! I don't have a clue what purpose ticks serve in the biosphere, but I know some non-human primates like to catch & EAT them. YUCK! And just to make sure: NEVER ever light them on fire, or try to burn them w/a ciggie. You will injure/traumatize your pet, and the tick's mouth/head will still be buried & cause infection.

ticks are the worst.... that i why i am glad george (the cat) never goes out

as for summer breeze --- you are really taking me back to high school

Welll, Hey there...

ABOUT TICKS......

I leave and miss a perfectly wonderful TICK discussion...Ahhh....there are many ways to get them off- alcohol works, if you don't have rubbing alcohol....Regular Drinking Liguor works...Vodka or Tequiilla etc...( jus saying if you are camping not everyone has rubbing alcohol with them).....I have heard of mineral oil also loosening their grip too....NOW if it has been embedded longer than 24 hours watch for symptoms- fatigue, fever, loss of appetite or seizures...

( esp if you are Deer Tick areas....)

If they have symptoms or YOU do- get to the Doctor and they will put you on antibiotics....don't wait though- be proactive...( and yes, DK gloves are advised- BUT they also make it easier to grip the little varmints..- even with good tweezers...)

OKAY...enough nursey nagging...it looks like you all had it well in hand...

Distributor cap::::

They are the worst....so glad that you keep George ( the cat ) in....and he will live forever - longevity goes way up ;-)
{{{{ ahhhh, this song reminds me of Highschool too...}}}

DK:::
when you talk about lighting them- you mean in the ash tray ? right ? not on the animal- goosh would someone do that????oh dear...

Christopher:::
no that is not biodiversity that is needed is it ? ouch....I hate themmmmm...they are creepy...

DK:::::
Wow...we need to send you to Nursing School....or giving you a Walking Doctor award...what great advice...Little Yellow Dog is going in the Tub tonight....and WITH Irish Spring which great for repellling all kinds of bugs- hopefully ticks too...
( but great on fleas)...

CHris::;
Alll we got up to 98 degrees again- heat index 107 ...( what is an index- does it mean I poach eggs on the porch??? or that petunias will cook? or that my clothes will stick to me ? gotta go....HUGE storm just kicked up....lights are flicking...shit I hope I don';t lose power again.....

Thanks all .....
I will be back after the storm,...
with Monday Night Music....
hopefully....
