I am so mad over this I have lost all ability to comment about it. The people responsible should be personally ruined and spend the rest of their lives cleaning this mess up by hand. Because while beaches can be somewhat cleaned I know the marshes will never be like they were once crude oil gets in the mud.
This is so sad. IF I believed in the Apocalypse, this would signal the END. I've ordered a book to read about the marshlands that a friend recommended--"Bayou Farewell" to appreciate the catastrophe more deeply.
We still find tar on the beaches here in Ventura from the Santa Barbara spill when I was a kid. It's criminal, and the greedy idiots responsible ought to be treated as such. Accident? They knew it was possible and did nothing to anticipate this event. Computer simulations could have been used to create the conditions surrounding the well, and yet no research on this had been done beforehand.
thanks Jan and Momma... I hear you..I will look for that book..I can barely write about this or blog on it or talk about it...the gulf is one of my favorite places...so I really do appreciate how vulnerable it is...
