REMEMBERING BOBBY KENNEDY....AND 1968.

*********************************
I have written about Robert F.Kennedy many times...he is one of my heros...I last wrote of him earlier this month "Remembering 1968" over on "Peace Tree " Blog ( which I will post later this weekend here). My son and I share quotes all the time, these are some of our favorites, please share yours too, and any memories or videos...It's the 40th anniversary of losing a Great Man.....that we can only remember and honor.

Tonight on Friday Night, at 8PM there is a Special on CNN about Bobby.....

"Progress is a nice word, but Change is it's motivator. And Change has enemies."

"All of us might wish at times that we lived in a more tranquil world, but we don't.
And if our times are difficult and perplexing, they are also challenging, and filled
with Opportunity."

"Each time a human stands up for an ideal,or acts to improve the lot of others,
or strikes out against injustice,he sends forth a tiny ripple of Hope".

Had the two Kennedy's lived, we'd be on a much better and much higher road than we're on now.

There are two quotes associated with RFK that I love. One was actually a quote by GB Shaw, which RFK used in a speech, and Ted Kennedy quoted in that unforgettably tremulous voice when giving RFK's eulogy:

Some men see things as they are and say, "Why?" I dream of things that never were and say, "Why not?"

The other quote is by RFK when he was asked about his reputation for ruthlessness. Paraphrasing:

People say I am ruthless. I am not ruthless. And if I find the man who called me ruthless, I shall destroy him.

In March, 1968, Robert Kennedy said "Our country is in danger; not just from foreign enemies; but above all, from our own misguided policies -- and what they can do to the nation that Thomas Jefferson once said was the last best hope of mankind. There is a contest on, not for the rule of America but for the heart of America. In these next eight months we are going to decide what this country will stand for -- and what kind of men we are."

In June, he was gone. And with his assassination, we lost our hope and our innocence and our pride. What came next was the beginning of 40 years of rule by fear - Nixon, Reagan, Bush 1, Bush 2. The few Democrats interspersed could not combat the weapon of hate and fear because they lacked the passion of Bobby Kennedy.

Well, that hope has returned in the form of Barack Obama. Let's take back our heart, and our decency, and move away from fear.

Doesn't Bobby look at lot like Lincoln in the photo you selected? It is terribly painful to remember June 6th every year. It always feels more like June 5th for me since I had stayed up late that night to watch the CA primaries & then his victory speech. For all these years, I've viewed it as when the last best hope was taken from us. Crushed in the prime of his possibility. And then, as Diva pointed, out the door was open for Nixon. A dark period.

Kennedy's work as Attorney General, when he went full-tilt after the mob, that's something that people often forget. It was an excellent part of his legacy, I think.

You are right-It was an amazing part- and one that rarely gets mentioned...and you are right it should be remembered more...He was fearless...

you know, I just had a thought after visiting one of the Hillarites site (hillaryis44 blog), I think Obama should put a condition on her receiving a post in his govt.. if your supporters go out in droves to vote for McCain..then you will not get (a)the job.. I'm sure Hillary will turn on her supporters in a way that they will see that she was in it for herself all along.. and he'd STILL be like Bobby K. As I read in one article, with his victory speech on Tuesday, he showed that not only did he stay calm amidst the storm and rancor, but he had plenty of grace AND showed his cajones by attacking McCain..he gives us energy but no doubt, when Obama speaks to the thousands and thousands of people at one stadium setting, it enforces his beliefs as well.

I have been thinking about how he went and met with her, and even outsmarted the press...that took grace, guts and wisdom...and I think he let her know that there have to be some rules in place- and that todays speech she must SAY THE RIGHT THING...( That speech on Tuesday got her fanatic supporters all fired up- and yes, it was misleading,..I have not been to the Hillarry44 site- but on her website- her own site- the comments there are worrisome..and if Obama people read it- they would know she has been feeding the fire of these angry women....and yes, misleading them..)

He is in many ways like RFK...he faces things head on...and with dignity- he does not "react" to situations- he thinks them through and responds....that is so different than DC political theater...

I am going to watch her speech...just to make sure she follows through..

we do need to move on and focus the battle on McSame....and all of us give 100% to that cause...
Obama has Courage....and Dignity...but he also has Wisdom...and we have needed that for a long time....

Hey,

Just to say loving the bog, great hero of mine, and can only imagine how the world would have been, although hopefully his thoughts and aspirations live on.

The reason I post, does anyone have a transcript of Bobby Kennedy's primary victory speech in the Embassy ballroom, at the Ambassador Hotel, no need to remind you I'm sure. There are many U-tube videos, however I really want the written word?? Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks and all the best,

Danny
