Republican Governors are thinking of turning down the Stimulus Package for their states....Click the title read more....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you live in ANY of these states I recommend you write to your governors and also your reps and demand that your concerns be heard. Example : In Texas, 268,000 jobs are at risk, as well as Health and UnEmployment Benefits, Governors should not be taking away what Residents NEED in those states and causing hardship.
From the Article:
"BATON ROUGE, La. – A handful of Republican governors are considering turning down some money from the federal stimulus package, a move opponents say puts conservative ideology ahead of the needs of constituents struggling with record foreclosures and soaring unemployment.
Though none has outright rejected the money available for education, health care and infrastructure, the governors of Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alaska, South Carolina and Idaho have all questioned whether the $787 billion bill signed into law this week will even help the economy.
"My concern is there's going to be commitments attached to it that are a mile long," said Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who considered rejecting some of the money but decided Wednesday to accept it. "We need the freedom to pick and choose. And we need the freedom to say 'No thanks.'"
U.S. Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., the No. 3 House Democrat, said the governors — some of whom are said to be eyeing White House bids in 2012 — are putting their own interests first.
"No community or constituent should be denied recovery assistance due to their governor's political ideology or political aspirations," Clyburn said Wednesday."
1932 FDR knew What the People Needed and this poster is strangely poignant...I wonder if there were repug Govenors also offered him such foolhardy resistance....
Huh! I have to say all the public schools my kids were in from Head Start to College were all struggling for enough funding. Enough money for books for everyone. Enough money to have a reasonable class size- teacher to student ratio.
All the buildings I have visited had serious aging issues- leaky roofing, ancient boiler systems, poor air circulation, funky uncomfortable desks. For so many years education has been something they barely keep going, but more focused on witch hunts & the No child left behind garbage, rather than quality programs, funded materials, and necessary building upgrades.
There is a constant thrreat of axing art & music programs, even those have proven track records in helping students academically.
I look at it this way... either you fund education, or you pay for jails. People need to be educated enough to have a career that supports a livelihood.
There is always the potential to soar above basic needs, and it is a positive affirming thing. People who can support themselves contribute to the overall good. Most other countries have already figured this out & fully fund & support education.
Let's face it.... the next generations are going to need to be mathematical geniuses to get us out of the Bush bankruptcy.
The republicans just seem to be able to approve money for wars... $600 billion (even more if you look at all the peripherals- Vet care/long term medical, etc).
They would be short cutting their own constituents..... but hey, if they really feel that way, California could really use the cash.
education or jails ? yup...you are so right...
give people jobs ? or they turn to crime ...or even true long term poverty creates terra....
I think instead of handing money out ( the tarp) they should be using the money to create job training centers...VO-Tech schools..make wind mills solar panels ...light rail....etc etc..
and set up clinics in schools so atleast children equate good healthcare with being educated...on and on....we all have ideas...
Well, I am in luck, I have a Democratic Governor and a republican congress.. the congress want to refuse it and the governor told them to go to hell...lol He had the DOT lined up to start working on a $1 million bridge project over the Osage River in the south part of the state as soon as the bill was signed. First project...of course they had cameras there the whole works...lol
So, I feel bad for the citizens of the states where these idiots live.. I think they are just playing to the cameras right now. As soon as the new wears off a little they will quietly take the money and be done with it. I could be wrong but that's what I think.
I am sure you are right...yeah...Sarah never had trouble taking money before...like her Road to Nowhere that she built for millions...and Gov Perry still needs money to repairs hurricane savaged areas...
I am so glad that there really was a Shovel ready project in your area...frankly there is plenty of work needing to be done...
