The Power of a Movement.....When The People Changed the Path of History

This is The Speech that changed History, it gave all of us the Power to Dream. Watch it with your Children....your Neighbors.
Martin Luther King inspired people that were lost, devastated, impoverished, disenfranchsed....He gave them Hope. He gave them Hope when they were in the midst of a War, Joblessness, Homelessness and feeling Lost. He created and led a Movement during a Dark Time in American History. He helped the People steer a faultering Leadership onto a Path that was long overdue. Click the Video it is The "I Have a Dream" speech from August 1963 by MLK, please share it with others, and post it this week. We need to Honor History and King.....and Honor Ourselves. We can Change History.

Here are some of His Words that moved millions and Changed History.

"A Lie cannot Live"

"A genuine Leader is not a Searcher for Consensus, but a molder of Consensus"

"A Nation that continues to spend more money on military defense, than programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom".

"All progress is precarious, and the solution of one problem leads us face to face to another problem"

"Darkness cannot drive out Darkness, Only Light can do that. Hate cannot drive out Hate, only Love can do that."

We have been watching the Swiftboating that has already started in a new subtle way. I do not know how to fight Swiftboating other than to share History, the Truth with people. Swiftboating of Legends is beyond my imagination....but must be stopped, so please do share this post and the one below and the videos....

I don't want to see us fight amoungst ourselves, I want to see us United against Greater forces....One People again...but I realize that there is pain...and we are divided....

But I also realize not everyone was a part of the 60's....and those Lessons need to be shared, handed over with Love and Respect....to the next generation...

Namaste.

My husband's Dad attended the MLK march, where he gave the I have a Dream Speech. We always ask him what that was like on that day,and to be a part of that history. The Civil rights movement was somewhat different in that the folks being oppressed were facing the discrimination daily, not some of them, but all of them. they were also bound by faith, and the churches helped support the network-- they prayed together, marched together, boycotted together, went to jail together.
Of course there were terrible setbacks- church burning & bombings, the peaceful protests made violent by the police using dogs, fire hoses, bricks through windows & shots in the night.
It IS amazing to me that the movement was able to continue being non violent, all things considered.

What we have in common now is the knowledge that the regime now has violated our country & the laws of the land- in ways we don't even know.
I want to restore our justice & integrity, and get back to where we once belonged...
How do we get there from here?

The Movement was able to continue and be non violent because it had a Great Leader , a Man of Substance that led with courage and grace under fire. He Led, he Taught, He Inspired....it was a path that he was willing to share with ALL people, He marched with the People, and he marched, and was jailed and bombed, and beaten up.....but he was committed to teaching about Justice, Peace and Love...to ALL people.

And we speak out when Someone denigrates History or Greatness and attempts to soil History.....

How do we get there ?
We Speak the Truth and we Honor History.....
and we speak out where we see Injustice, we speak out for those that are suffering and have less, we speak out for our children and our elderly,....we speak out about an Illegal War.....We focus on what Binds us....not divides us.

I was 15 and I hitchhiked from NJ to DC to attend the demonstration, my first major one ever. I missed a good part of the speech die to crowd noise, as I was near the back of the march. Since then, I have listened many times and IMHO "I have a dream" is the single best speech in human history.

Good for you...that had to be so amazing...( I too had heard that it was too noisy...I had Aunties that went....but they didn't hitch there.) And I have to agree, that it is one of the Best Speechs ever.

( I like the one below with Bobby Kennedy and also the Promised Land speech... I tried to find good ones for today...It is funny How Wonderful YouTube really is..)

Americans don't have a dream anymore - they have a nightmare called Bush.

Cheers.

This post was put up today to honor a great Leader, not just in our eyes, but the World. It is his Birthday...

well...It is like this, we have surived the Nightmare of Bush ( as has the whole world at this point). It is also critical to remember he stole TWO elections and more than HALF the Country has suffered under him and did not elect him and have worked hard to have his Adminsitration of Criminals Impeached.....

But that does not mean that we can Honor the Past...Or great Persons of Our History that we need to remember and honor..

As well as look forward to the Future and yes, we should ...try to Have a Dream again....We have Much to Overcome...

Namaste.

Thank you for posting this.

I am nauseated and appalled at Hillary Clinton's race-based attacks on not only Martin Luther King, Jr., but on Sen. Barack Obama.

You know, Enigma, if I didn't know better, I'd swear Karl Rove is advising Hillary's campaign, The garbage she's thrown at Obama these past two weeks reeks of Rove.

Of course, most Republicans would much prefer Hillary Clinton getting the nomination because they know she has 50% negatives and this perfectly positions their candidate, whether it turns out to be McCain or Guiliani or Huckabee.

BTW, I have a great new post up of Obama's interview today with the Las Vegas Sun newspaper. He addresses the lawsuit brought by the teachers union (and supported by Hillary Clinton) that attempts to disenfranchise thousands of of casino workers in Las Vegas.

Poor Barack Obama. I don't think her realized how vile and evil the Clintons would get in order to hold onto power. But the Clintons are the very personification of dirty politics.

Namaste to you, too!

Mandt:
thanks...I just hope and pray that he is not our last great Hero....

Christopher:
Great post....thank you for blogging about the NV issue....( I remain confused ??) anyways...thank you for blogging about how dignified he has been...the MSM forgets to focus on the dignity of this man....

I'm back from the moribund and have just posted my Australian tribute to MLK. It seems we co-own the good and the bad.

Tomorrow is Martin Luther King's birthday. One wonders of Hillary will fall all over his legacy at every opportunity at tomorrow's debate.

After all she is a panderer.

enigma4ever said...

Larry:
Now I just dread the debate that I was looking forward to...( BTW the Judge had even ORDERED NBC TO ALLOW DENIS ....of course now NBC is appealing that decision...)
sigh....and pandering ? hmmm, well, after she got BOOED this afternoon in NYC....she sent/or made public an offer of "truce" with Obama, which is a joke- as she was basically the one causing the problems...and being insensitive...I wonder will she apologize for what BJohnson did yesterday???

I don't think most people will accept one...she has hatemongered and besmirched History at the worst possible moment....( Christopher has the BOOmoment posted- and so do many other fine blogs)

Cart: I will be over to read your post to MLK...thank you...you were WHERE??? hope all is well...

namaste..

Had MLK lived, he would 79 tomorrow 1/15. National MLK day is observed 1/21 (next Monday, the 3rd Monday in January ea yr). I don't appreciate the tone for honoring & remembering MLK this week being set by Hillary.

Instead, I'll be thinking of MLK's 1963 I Have a Dream speech:

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will NOT be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
...
"No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not BE satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream." ...

So much power in those words. The following year, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. And he would've ONLY been 79 tomorrow, which is to say, he could've still been here with us!

Peace Train also has a post up as of course do many others.

It's a shame his name has to be dragged into a presidential campaign for profit, courtesy of Hillary.

Larry:
6-6 pointed something out....strategically she did something REALLY foolish , ALL of us will remember this time and WHAT she did.....because it is MLK day...and MLK would want us to Speak Up and take a stand ......

( gosh...living with a teenager can be sobering...they put it all together...)

Enigma it is good your son has an interest and has chosen a good one to support.

enigma4ever said...

I think I said this on a blog- I can not remember if I said it here..

I was talking with him about the Youth Vote in NH and Iowa, and

6-6 said "Of course they showed up and are supporting Obama ...."This is OUR Sixties, we the young are trying to save OUR Country, Don't you get it??? We all remember what you taught us about JFK, MLK, RFK... We know Greatness when we see it".

He said this the night that Obama lost NH, and we watched Obama's Concession Speech-"see How Presidential he is ?.."

and then our power went out...
and I sat in the stormy night...
in the Dark...
and thought about what 6-6 said....
