Saturday Evening Thoughts....Beatles,Potato Salad, and Monty Python...
I can not change What has happened this week, what has been Said...or Done.I can only offer this...Spend this weekend with those that you Love...shower them with what is needed.....whether they be close or far away...My son 6-6 said we need to get a break away from the "shitmongering" ( teenagers always have the best language). He is right, he said we need to eat Lucky Charms and Find the BEST Song....we have a Beatles Vs.Rolling Stone Challlenge on right now....And later I will make hotdogs and potato salad...So if you were here, I would give you a hugs offer you my BEST Potato Salad and put the Beatles or the Stones on for you....and give you a hug....it's all I got...( well, maybe some Monty Python Clips....or Lewis Black).
((( I am down to my Top 3 Beatles Songs....I have them ALL posted here and linked to the Title....so it is down to Revolution, Let It Be, and Imagine....)))

Oh, for me, it is Let it Be - what a great, great song that is.
Just click the TITLE....there it is Diva...just for you ;-)
I agree about Revolution. It's so hard to say which are the best Beatles songs, they produced so much & most all of them are memorable for one reason or another. I can't decide. John did Imagine after he went solo.
Now as far as Beatles vs Stones. Well as much as I love the Stones, there was never any doubt for me that the Beatles touched my soul in a more meaningful way. Which Stones songs have you whittled it down to? I know Sympathy for the Devil has to be in there somewhere.
Ahhhh...
Sympathy for the Devil is right on top....and then Gimme Shelter..and then .....Paint it Black...I think...(this is subject to change in about two hours ;-)
AND tonight it is MONTY PYTHON Anniversary night...thank god for Youtube or I wouold have lost my marbles by now...sigh...
( I know that John did Imagine after beatles- and 6-6 said it isn;t fair- that it is one of my favorite songs anyways,,,he is right..)
Okay Diva and DK WHICH Beatle ??? melts your heart???
Oh I was a GeorgieGirl from the moment I saw them on Ed Sullivan. Still am. In order for me: G,J,R,P. Paul was my least fave because he was my sister's fave & you know how sibling rivalry goes. When they played LVCC, I got on the catwalk behind Ringo, so close I could've reached out & touched his hair. Did you catch HBO Ringo Starr: Off the Record interview with Dave Stewart? I just watched it & gained new respect for Ringo.
In order:
George
John
Ringo
Paul
I tried to ship myself to their hotel when they came to Chicago the first time. When they played Comisky Park, my friends and I had seats right over the 3rd base dugout where they came on and off the field. When they were leaving the stage, I climbed onto the dugout, screaming at them - George looked up at me, said "Hello, love". I nearly died.
He also used to store one of his cars at my cousin's factory.
Diva::
I knew it...I too am a huge George fan..always...John for his writing..but the one I would also have onto the dugout for...yes, George for sure...What great stories you have....
Hey Jude, Yesterday,We can work it out..( let it be)...
On the Stones we agreed....Street Fighting Man....
OK, Revolution, Hey Jude, and Here Comes the Sun (if I can only pick three). What is amazing is I can hardly find a BAD Beatle song. I even liked Rocky Racoon (a girl friend & I serenaded a couple of downtown boys with that one, I'm sure they thought we were nuts). One that always makes me cry is "Julia" (half of what I say is meaningless).
Stones: anything off Beggar's Banquet!
So, what about a favorite Stone? I always thought Mick should've done more acting. He was pretty good in Ned Kelly. Clockwork Orange seemed almost written for him.
You can still give me some potato Salad ... (recipe? :) )
And a hug (i am depressed)
I liked the early Beatles songs the best although there were definitely some great ones later on. I've always been particularly fond of "Norwegian Wood."
I'm really more of a Stones fan. I can't think of my favorite because I like so many of theirs. One I've always liked is "You can't always get what you want." It's a philosophy to live by!
I'd propose it this way: which is the best Beatles album? For me, the three best are Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, and The White Album.
As for the Stones - I saw them originally when Brian Jones was still alive, and they were a great bar band. They recorded in 1964 at Chess Records at 2120 S. Michigan Avenue in Chicago. I was a sophmore in High School, and went to school with one of the Chess kids - got to see some of the recording.
Also, through the years, when the Stones came to Chicago, after their show Mick and Keith would often go to places like Buddy Guy's Legends on South Wabash to jam. Frankly, I think the Stones are a great, great bar band. Their roots are in Blues, and that's what they do best.
But to quote Ringo, when asked in "Hard Day's Night if he was a Mod, or a Rocker," he said, and I agree, "I'm a Mocker."
There once was a major *best of rock bands* vote that went on. In the end, it came down to The Stones & the Beatles. After much debate, in the end the Beatles won, in part because they went further into exploring so many different styles, instruments, film, art- full spectrum.
John was always my favorite, then George, Paul & Ringo. Yoko did not hve a singing talent, sorry Yoko!
My fav Beatles tunes- (sorry I can't narrow it down to 3!)
All you need is love
Nowhere Man
Revolution
Within you without you
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts club band
Let it be
Working Class hero
& John's- Imagine
Paul's ~Blackbird
The Stones-
Ruby Tuesday
Get offa my cloud
Satisfaction
Paint it black
Both bands are icons & have such creative lyrics & music.
Fran:::
you are right it is toooo hard to pick just three :-)
I love your list, and your stones list too...
( I have been listening to the White Album and Norwegion Wood all day...)
DIVA:
you always have the best stories...too good...I think you are right...they are a great bar band...and you even knew where they went after hours...I am soooo envious...
I saw them 3 times in my youth...long ago...and the one time they definently should have been in rehab....
as a young girl..my folks had a place in florida..condo...well, the Stones came one year and rented a whole wing of the building....and were more than wild...it took weeks for the place to get cleaned up....all of us were like 12, and 13 we scoured the place for their party remains...and broken furniture and lamps ( nowadays we could have sold them on Ebay ;-0
Hey Maui:::
I have Satisfaction on my Ringtone right now...everytime it goes off it makes me laugh...and hum...it is a great song...When I want to be soothed...OLD Beatles..when I want to wallow in my funk...it is BLUES..it is the Stones...100%....I so hear you...
Naj:::
Many Many Hugs (((( )))) And I sent you the reciepe......and more hugs..
DK:::
you are sooo right Mick should have done more acting..that would have been great..maybe when he retires ( ha!!! )..I think I saw him in something....( I know I have seen Bowie in a couple of things and he was great...) I love all the choices that people put up...too funny we all ended up realizing that three was absurd.....
Thanks all...all great songs...and more to listen to...
