Honoring Katrina....All Weekend.. And Monitoring Gustav)

I am blogging this weekend to Honor Katrina.I originally blogged Katrina in 2005 ( and there is more to that story I will post later this weekend.) So there will be numerous posts Honoring what was Lost. I also will be blogging Gustav, as he bears Down on the Gulf Coast, and Lousianna and NOLA....as the RNC plans their big party. It is worth Watching and Monitoring Closely. So there are Gustav Updates below, and links to critical articles. Mistakes have been made- in the planning.

Mornin' E~ You wrote It is worth Watching and Monitoring Closely.

Did you mean he republicans or the hurricane-- or both?

I tend to tune in, in a know your enemy kind of way. I want to know what kind of propaganda & tactics they are up to.

As for the hurricane- I sure do hope NOLA is spared. I wrote up a tribute the other day, including some photos of houses that are still abandoned & boarded up 3 years later. The low spot & the poorest neighborhood- the lower 9th ward, still remains in the worst shambles. In part, lots of insurance companies just declared they don't cover natural disasters, so there is no money for recovery or demolition. This is where the gvmnt really should step in. Start a program where strapped homeowners can get help to dismantle homes that were detroyed. Often when a house has sat in 5 to 24 feet of water, toxic molds occur & the home needs to be demolished. Maybe they can clear the house of debris & do firefighter practice burns- even fire crews from other neighboring states can pay to do several burn practice & rescue exercises ~ using homes that previous owners grant permission to use. There has got to be a creative way to clean up what remains. Even if they decided to not rebuild the lowest of the lower than sea level area, they should at least clean it up.

That's the kind of thing responsible governments should do-- as opposed to building bridges to nowhere.
