HAPPY HALLOWEEN....

Don't you love Halloween ?.... The smell of the pumkins with candles burning, and the crackling leaves, and burnt Smores....and the little ones in their costumes wandering around the neighborhood with their pillowcases full of candy...

I love decorating my porch- making Pumpkin People, with straw bodies ( like scarecrows)...When my son was 5, I decorated the porch to look like a Pirate Ship...complete with Pirates ( Pumpkin headed), they had Hooks, and patches, and were sprawled in drunken splendor across the porch ( and I dressed as a pirate, and embarrassed my son)....Other years I dressed as a gypsy and read palms when I handed out cookies and candy ( the readings were so funny , kids love to be told they will be famous ..or rich..)

I used to take my son to parties, we would take hospital glove and freeze water in them- makes wonderful Frozen Hand Ice Cubes to put in the punch, and then there were bowls of eyeballs ( peeled grapes), brains ( cold spaghetti), bowls of snot ( yellow jello), One year he wanted to be a car..so I made him a car....another year, it was a robot ( he won his first Contest in that one- he was wonderful , complete with lights and bells and buttons, it was a wonderful constume).....and of course Batman...( that was the same year his friend Mack dressed as Casper, sadly her mom made the Head Part TOO pointed, so people thought she was a Klan Child....the shocked faces were priceless....sorry , but they were...)

As a child I was really good at making my own costumes...A Basket of Laundry ( from an old laundry basket with holes for legs and arms), A Dollar Bill -I was dressed in George in the Center, and when I was in Nursing school I was a "Table For two", that one also won some awards....I miss those days....and all of that Creativity... So Get out there be Creative..and have fun....If you want to try some wonderful treats click the TITLE....

omg, frozen hand ice cubes and cold spaghetti brains take me back!

As a kid, we lived across the street from an elementary school where every year the janitors would set up a haunted crypt winding through all their janitorial corridors (which since one never sees them, are quite scary with exposed plumbing pipes and ductwork). The janitors would scare us half to death in their frankenstein, wolfman, creature from the black lagoon, etc, costumes, by lunging at us from out of some dark recesses as we skiddled through the dark corridors. The last year I went, they had a babydoll-headed fly hanging on a web that tickled you as you walked under it, triggering the fly to say "help me" as a red light shown on a big black spider working its way toward the fly. The kids loved it! Vincent Price lives!

As a kid, my fave costume was sleeping beauty. I liked the blond ringlet wig & long baby blue gown. I never did go scary, except for my last trick-or-treat year, I decided to be a "beatnik" (or my idea of one anyway), which entailed a long black wig (pretty scary on me)!

Hey Ladies..
DK::
Oh, In love the stories..and that your school and it 's employees enjoyed the day and made it fun for the kids....and I love your Costume ideas...

Ingrid:::
Oh Halloween is all about being creative and silly- and even gross...Enjoy it....( my son has now outgrown all of this...sadly teens have to be "cool" and his mama is way uncool....what can I say ...) I love all this stuff- btw pumkin seeds are great cooked too...yum... ( omg they just showed a Palin rally- she dressed Trig as "Dumbo".....something about that just seems amazingly insensitive..has she seen the movie ?????)....

Have a great time....( and yes , hopefully this time next year we can make puking pumpkins ;-)

One year in a local race, I flat out refused to consider voting for any candidate who called us with a robocall. I hate the damn things with a passion. One candidate called us at 9am on a Sunday. GRRR I guess I just found another advantage to not having a land line at home right now. No robocalls! *grins*

I just read that piece at HuffPo about Palin and the First Amendment. *rolls eyes*
