Hot Tea......and a Question ???

I have this massive sinus infection ( which is thanks to this Cold that never left and I have been battling for weeks).....now the Free Clinic is not giving medical appointments to Non Regulars ( their Chronic Patients are still getting care). Which means no appointments for people like me. They kindly recommended another Clinic that only has sliding scale for people with Insurance. Can you picture me banging my sore head yet ?

48 Million without Healthcare, 50 Million UnderInsured and receiving inadequate care....So I ask again...Shouldn't Health Care be a RIGHT ???? At the Debate that is what Obama said , that it should be a Right. ( McCain said it is a responsibility).

I am going to sit here and drink alot of tea....let me know what YOU think about America's Healthcare Mess ?

So sorry you are not feeling well.

As you thought of doing salin water in the nasal passages?

It's icky but I've had it work when nothing else would. Warm water mixed with some salt, pour a little in the palm of the hand and snort gently (you don't want to get it down your throat just in the nasal passages). Be prepared to cough, sneeze and lots of ick - but once it's over it usually helps. Can be repeated a couple times a day until infection clears.

The only thing I can suggest is raw garlic. Chop up a couple of cloves each day and either eat them alone or put on top of other foods.

Hope you feel better asap!

WaPo and ABC polls:::
about WHO would be best to deal with the Economy ?
53 % say Obama....and 37% say McCain....

well...that is some good news....

Obama leads in North Dakota!?! I know a 2% lead is really a tie in terms of statistics but, for ND to not be completely in the bag for McCain is just stunning!!

I am 100% behind Obama's plan to have every single person covered!

I am frightened to the core with McCain's plan - which is essentially to throw us all to the wolves.

Geeze, what is going on? You, several people I know, and I all have had colds that just won't let up. I hear you on the healthcare issue; I have been without it for almost 2 years after I was dropped once I hit 23 (my dad's insurance keeps you until 23 if you are a full time student, then after that you are on your own) and have been a nervous wreck of something happening to me.

And some people can just stand there and say well, stop being so lazy and get a job with benefits! If only it was that easy! If only it was easy to find a job in general! Or one that offers benefits. Or one that will not turn you down for a pre-exisiting conditions. Insurance doesn't want to treat mental illness/emotional problems the same way by giving severe restrictions, but they certainly have had no trouble turning down others I have talked to with mental illness for "pre-existing condition", so I am really worried I might have the same trouble when I am offered benefits. And then there is a matter of finding a fairly decent benefit plan, one that is not so lousy you're better off just not having insurance. Try to get help from the government, they don't want to help unless you are direly poor. If you're far, far from rich and not direly poor, forget it.

I really hope something comes soon. I like the sound of Obama's health plan a lot and I really, really hope he wins.

PS- love the pitbull picture

I am so sorry to hear you are still suffering. Have you tried an OTC antihistamine, like benedryl, to try & reduce the sinus inflammation? They do tend to give you muzzy head, but that is better than being miserable with swollen sinuses.

And damn right, health care is a RIGHT, a human right! I was so glad to hear Obama finally say it. I saw a TV news item yesterday profiling the differences between McC and Obama on health care. Unbelieveable that ANYONE would look at McC's ideas as solving anything! I was most gratified to see them say that Obama's proposals would push us toward a national health program, and damn all these people who don't see that as a vast improvement. They keep saying look at Canada, like their system is sooo awful. Well, don't stop there! Look at Germany & Switzerland & many other places that have worked toward an NHP. They may not be perfect, but no one goes bankrupt trying to get basic health care.

ahhh the Sinus Infection from hell...really it is the reflux that is making it so untenable...but thanks- I am taking all kinds of things.....sudafed and garlic and tea and sinus rinse etc.etc etc...BUT what really got me is that people like me are so screwed nowhere to go...or get care..ANY care...( and People wonder why the ER gets so full ???)

okay enough grumbling from me...I would love to have the Same Socialized Medicine that OUR Senators have...even Johnny McCoot has Care and has always had care that is provided by the Government....

That is the problem, as I see it- the deciders have all their needs cared for, so they don't endure the experience you are going through. Everything is covered by insurance, or they have the $$$$ to bridge the gap. The whole insurance problem thing is theoretical to those who have never had the bottom line health care situation. Having to call back the Doctor from the pharmacy, saying change this prescription to something I can afford. Or being rejected from the free clinic, because their funds are down, or paying quadruple the cost to go to an urgent care doc in the box kind of place.
Obama describes what it was like to watch his mother on her cancer deathbed, hashing it out with insurance companies, to get the medical care she needed.

They don't get it because it is just theoretical AND they are tainted with insurance lobbyists
giving them tons of money to keep the status quo.
Hell, they cold not even get the SCHIP children's medical program funded. WTF? Are the kids supposed to "get a job"?

Anyway, the film SICKO captured the problem well.
Other countries have made medical care a part of covered items.
We don't even have to reinvent the wheel-- glean the best of successful programs from places that already have healthcare as a right, in place.

As an aside-- I am a big fan of fresh Ginger root.
Boil up a pot & drink that for a warming flush & tonic.

Wish I had a magic wand to make it all better.

I am so pissed off. I know what it's like to have a raging sinus infection and no health insurance and I wouldn't wish it on anyone unless it's Sarah Palin. Unless you get antibiotics, you can't get rid of it and those are pricey.

If all you can do is manage it, buy yourself one of those gel heating pads that you can nuke in the microwave to heat it up. Then place it over your sinuses when you get ready to go to bed. After about an hour, it should make the pain manageable.

enigma4ever said...

oh a gel pack ...great idea.....thanks RJ..thanks for letting me gripe....

Enigma,
I wanted some of those gel pads like r.j. is talking about a while back but, I was really broke. So I made my own low-tech, reusable, microwave heating pad.

I took an old pillowcase, folded it over a couple of times, sewed it up on three sides, and left one side open. Then I filled it up about halfway with uncooked rice and sewed up the remaining open side. (You can sew the whole thing by machine or by hand. Just go over your stitches until you are sure that the rice can't work it way back out.) Then I placed it on a plate, put it in the microwave, and nuked it for a minute at a time till I got it to the temperature I wanted. After that I shook it around well in case one part was hotter than the rest. Then I put it inside of another pillowcase to help keep it clean and took it to bed with me for my back.

The shape, size, and amount of rice, depend on the purpose you want to use it for. Using less rice will make it conform better to your body. Using more rice results in a firmer pad. I made mine rectangular which works well for lower back and for under your feet in bed on cold nights.
