Just to be really clear....THIS is What a "Maverick" is....

It smells like cat pee and only runs two days a week and leaks fluids and makes a really annoying noise when it idles....and it blairs "Rocky" on an old 8 track......( when this is all over, I swear I don't want to hear that damn word EVER again..)

LOL, I used to own one of these and this post made me strangely nostalgic for it. I'm also a bit nostalgic for the kinder, gentler McCain that may have at one time earned this moniker.

HAH! I had one of these, too. A brand-new '72 Ford Maverick Grabber V-8, muted orange body w/a white leathery top (within a year the white top had blistered liver spots from the incredible Palm Springs sun). I added a cassette deck to it, mounted under the dash (no 8-tracks for me). I named it, "the 'Nad Grabber". I'm sure the sight of me driving it w/my orange hair flying in the wind, led zep cassette belting out "Stairway to Heaven", would've scared the hell out of McMaverick!

sounds like the script for a movie...I am not sure what kind....hehe...

I had a Vega Hatchback...bright pumpkin...I loved that car...

and then there was 1966 Cherry red Olds Cutless....with creamy white interior...and yes....in both of them....cassette players.....

and yes, plenty of Stairway to Heaven....

funny how our cars are such a piece of our pasts....

Yes but I think you imagined perfectly what shape those great old cars are probably in today --- smelling like cat pee & leaking fluids while a broken 8-track is stuck on a continuous loop of Rocky! Perfect analogy for the old McCoot.

Allie, this sure gave me a laugh. We were supposed to be in Palm Desert (we stay in one of the hotels in Palm Springs because my son's home doesn't have room for us) by this time, but they had a water main break at our complex, and we're 'sand-bagging' to keep water out of our condo'.

So, we're 'bagged up'; locked inside while they're outside fixing the leak and the pump is going.

Anyway, I figured why not go read some of my favorite blogs. When I read this post, it was my FIRST LAUGH of today!

I have to tell you, I saw an old disheveled man the other night; he had an old beat up truck; trash in the back, a gray pony tail tied with a piece of twine and a bald spot just above the pony tail the size of a grapefruit. A torn t-shirt; bagged and torn pants; dirty flip-flops, and I would say he fit YOUR definition of Maverick perfectly (didn't get close enough to him to tell what he smelled like).

I told my husband I wondered if this guy 'voted'. If he voted, who would he vote for....

When you think about the number of people who don't have a 'clue' about the responsibility of voting; who seem to 'drop out' of life, and just exist, it becomes a frightening thought when others like you are so diligent in learning the issues; knowing what is right for this country, and spend hours helping to contribute to the well-being of this nation.

We have those who 'do' - those who 'don't', and all reap some of the benefits of living in a land that has offered much to anyone who wanted to work for it (and quite a bit to those who don't).

Still, I'll forever keep this analogy and this reminder, and I do wish you'd send this to the McCain/Palin campaign committee.

I'm going to copy/paste/e-mail this one - it just HAS TO BE SHARED.....

Terrific job; sinus infection and all (keep the steam coming; that's what breaks it up, but as a nurse you know that). Diane

I think that old car needs a theme song. May I suggest this?

PS: Let me know if I screwed up the link again. I still have to get out my cheat cheat to do links!

I think there MORE of "us"....

Looks like McCain/Palin has a "new" campaign song by Hank Williams Jr.

I think ol' Hank is getting sloppy. He's got Mama in there but he is missing the words: prison, rain, train, drunk, and pickup truck.

How hard would it be to add a another verse? Just have Palin be in prison and the former "First Dude" going to visit her in his pickup truck. Meanwhile a drunk John McCain passes out next to the train tracks in the rain.
