Faces of Working People....

************************************
The Economy is in trouble....Big Trouble.Three Hours of Hearings today with Bernanke today, and while he testified the Market dropped another 300 points ( that would not be a show of confidence).....There was a feeble admission that the economy is malingering.....The "Crisis " word was even used.

I am curious what Other People are seeing and thinking. I look at faces and eyes , at the grocery store, bustop, and at construction sites, and on the Street. I see People Worried, I see people having trouble buying groceries and heat and meds. 47 Million without Healthcare, and Another 3 Million about to lose their homes. ( Yet my neighborhood is full of empty houses). These are all Real Problems, from joblessness, to homelessness to penniless. Bernanke talked about the Stock Market and how it needs Stimulating....I guess I con't understand how $200. 00 would help anyone?

See I think it all started when the Gas Prices Soared, which is when Everything Rose for Working People, fuel, Food, and all supplies rose atleast 4.1 %. Yet the Fuel Companies have had the Biggest Profits EVER, WHY should they not be taxed, or asked to Give Something Back, instead of letting them rob and pillage Real People ? That is my two cents......

Let me hear Your Thoughts....

Every taxcut that was ever supposedly given to average Amwricans, was of so little significance it really went nowhere.

Every Republican boasts of taxcuts to stimulate the economy which is only a catch phrase to elect me and I will take your money.

Yea, 50 bucks to fill the gas tank on my Ranger pickup, still can't fight the forces of evil (read republicans) if I can't get to meetings, but I AM making better choices on auto trips, taking the bus to work more
That perhaps is the ONLY upside to the war for oil....

Funny you should post about this- I was reading it the same time the news did a piece about the economy. They said the price of milk is up 20% from last year, and gas up 30%. The closing line had some politician saying "you give middle class people $500, and they know what to do with it".
Yes Einstein, this would not pay 2 month's worth of winter utility bills. Mystery solved.

Later I heard of discussion of a $300 individual rebate or $600 for married couples, sa a tax rebate to pull the economy out of the crapper.

For me $600 bucks would pay half the medical bills I owe. As pointed out in the SICKO movie, I am one of the *lucky ones* with insurance.

Everyone I know of trying to sell houses, it's slow or just not happening at all.

Toyota just bumped Ford out of the #2 spot, which it held for many decades.... US car makers dropped the ball on Hybrids. the people are voting with their dollars & buying energy efficient vehicles.... although the gvmnt has been dragging it;s heels on requiring better mpg standards, sometime to infinity & beyond, when they will get to that issue, people are making that choice for now.

Overall our country has been out of step. We could & should be creating jobs with environmental responsibility. How about subsidizing solar panels & making them affordable, so every home that should have solar panels does? Making cars that don't use fossil fuel.

Our economy is tanking because it is neglected, ignored- it's not been an issue for the "haves" war profiteers, etc,, all the public $ is going to war/military, and everything else has been left on the back burner.

You are amazing..you gave a better synopsis then any pundit I saw all day....
this mess did not just happen over night, alot of bad decisions went into how we got to this place in time..and Bernanke and congress wait until the Subprime Crisis hits the 100 Billion dollar mark????

the "Recession" Train has been barreling down this track for over a year...and they just "noticed"....they have had multiple hearings on Roided Baseball players....yet the Market and financial situation has been on this course with all of us watching ...and Knowing it was Trouble....

We should also begin holding WORLD hearings on the situation and people that Know economics should be there from Branston to Bloomberg....meanwhile while we are on the path to Hell.... Bush is Sword Dancing and making Arms Deals with the Arabs.....

and while Rome burned.....

I didn't watch TV today, do I still get my $300? OK, let's take a little walk down memory lane:

They did this same thing a few yrs ago, remember? It was accompanied by the biggest tax cut for the wealthy in history. Democrats agreed to it because at the last minute Joe Lieberman (yeah, good ol' Joe) insisted that it would be OK as long as EVERYONE got $omething. That's when they came up with $300. And everyone made fun of what they would do with their $300 while the avg fat cat could buy himself a mercedes with his tax cut. And Joe got up & explained to the cynical american public that $300 would buy you a new set of tires, which you know, the common folk would appreciate a lot more than a mercedes anyway. And then, to top it off, it turned out the $300 was merely an advance refund of taxes that you had to claim as income when you filed your tax return at the end of the year (by which time everyone had forgotten they ever received the $300 in the first place). And in the ensuing years, even the common folk have noticed that they have lost purchasing power while the wealthy are buying golden yachts with their huge tax cuts while we commoners are financing a war. All for the price of an immediate $300. We sure do sell ourselves cheap.

Sheesh! It's no wonder we are falling apart. The whole country has ADD. They can keep my $300 and GIVE ME BACK MY COUNTRY!

You do know that after pulling in record profits (45 BILLION DOLLARS in 3 months) that not only are we still paying subsidies to these rape artists, but they have the unmitigated balls to keep telling us that part of the problem is not having enough refineries?
They have not built a new refinery in this country since the 1970's. Yet, you would think, 45 billion dollars might put on or two into a position of being built. Oh, Hell, No!They are a cat's whisker away from being a monopoly but you won't see Bush doing a damn thing about it, he is one of them.
Instead, Stupie McFuckwit goes over to Saudi Arabia and gets all misty eyed with crocodile tears and asks them , nicely, to increase production.
Yeah, sure Stupie, well get right on that, they say.
Every bit of our current energy mess can be laid directly at the republicans feet. We should have had a drastic turnaround in our energy policy decades ago, trouble is, the repubs like the greenbacks and short term profit trumps everything.

Let's see. Americans have the lowest saving rate of any developed nation. We have maxed out credit cards and refinancing of homes. Most people are living paycheck to paycheck just trying to stay even while the President wants to give them $600 but only if his tax cuts are made permanent.

Destroy the middle class and we will soon be using the "D" word - Depression, not just the "R" word - Recession.
