IOWA CAUCUS STUNNING, OBAMA WINS, EDWARDS NUMBER TWO

[originally posted 1.03.07 10:01 PM]

By 9:30 PM, it was clear that CHANGE is wanted, that people are angry, tired of the DC suits, and they came out and voted in Record Numbers, more than 212,000 came out to Caucus. ( Less than 80,000 came out to Caucus for Huckabee to win 34% and Mitt Romney had only 24%). Obama WON 37%, and Edwards still has a lead over Clinton. 2nd and 3rd are very very close. Stunning.

Edwards gave a Wonderful inspiring passionate speech tonight, Does he have RFK in him ? I think he does...and so does Obama. And the Heartland Heard Both of these men....loud and clear. ( 236,000 Dems showed up tonight....wow...120,000 was the 2004 number, less than 80,000 showed up for Repugs).

Can You Picture these two Working together to Bring Change and Fight to save this Country ?
I can.

Thank You Iowa....and let it be a Tsunami of Change....

i find it disturbing that folks are voting status quo instead of for real change. if folks wanted real change, they would have voted ron paul and dennis kucinich.

enigma4ever said...

Betmo: I know you are dissappointed, but bless them, they voted in Iowa in RECORD numbers...four times as many turned out then expected...and they voted DEM, NOT repug- remember that this state supported Bush- only 4 years ago.....they in No way voted status quo...this is Heartleand Iowa...But Dennis and Paul both did get numbers...and that is a good change( I don't think 4 years either of them would have)...I am very selfish, because I live in Ohio, I want Dennis in the House- where I know he is really really effective..

Ron Paul may still shake things up in other states- Nevada, Florida and even NH....

This is just the start...the MAIN thing is that the Repugs were outvoted/out Caucused in Iowa in Record Numbers...and the Bush Doctrine finally has hit the hopper...I am sorry but THAT is Huge...and is Change..is HOPE....

And Kucinich did encourage people in Iowa to back Obama for the 2nd round if he did not have the numbers...he is realistic...he knows the Country needs change...

But mostly remember this is Iowa...

(Also Kucinich is on with Bill Moyers tomorrow night...)

Don't lose faith Betmo...have Hope...

I'm not sure why, but I think Obama is the right choice. He's a bit enigmatic like our new PM Rudd. But what we do hear is in the right direction. I'm starting to think it is time for basic technocrats for a while, just to get the wheels back on at least.

enigma4ever said...

Hey there friend...hmmm, I can see where you would see some of RUDD in there ( I have watched him on videos- he has a Common Touch- Connectibility)...
About getting the wheels back on...whelp , I think first we have to pull the Bus off the edge of the cliff...and then start the repairs...and there is alot more than wheels that is the problem.....sadly....but yeah, I agree...I hope and pray that Obama and Edwards team up...they make quite a team......

They are about REAL Change...HOPE...and no more of the Bushco Regime...and they finally both validated that people of all ages have every right to be fed up....

Thanks for watching...it is going to be an interesting ride...

( DEMS showed up in Iowa in RECORD numbers, this was a BUSH State in 2004...but tonight less than 80,000 showed up for Repugs...and more than 220,00 showed up for DEMS, and less than 120,000 showed up in 2004.....amazing)

Cartledge said...

Thanks for watching... Australia watches. Well this one certainly does, beyond news coverage. But remember I'm the one who makes outrageous predictions the pendulum swinging back to the left.
Having said that I don't expect Obama to swing dramatically anymore than Rudd will. Both will be facing one hell of an economic mess.

Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinnich are bookends too far out for a mainstream USA, but Ron Paul is a racist, and a oddball libertarian, Hillary Got a thumpin, and the surprise is that Edwards moved up so far, Edwards can still do it, On to New Hampahire.....
(for those interested in the racist theme google Ron Paul's newsletter from the early 1990s)
More Good News, the Repugutards are in full eat their own mode
this will be a good election year

enigma4ever said...

Thomas: I think Betmo is just worried that the process seems flawed , that little candidates get overwhelmed so early on..I actually dont know Paul at all, I do know Kucinich, and like him, but as I said I like him for this state...( I know I am selfish...)....

And Edwards and Obama both gave such eloquent speechs...really moving....Hillary..well, I thought I was watching a soap commercial..soooo scripted and insincere ( and did I miss it- but did she forget to thank people- like Bill and Chelsea- because I never heard her say thank you..) On CNN Gergen was on and he was saying that" Edwards was Done"WTF???? WHY ? at 9:30pm, that is what he said- and NO one stopped him,,,I was pissed- Edwards came in Second..and the Dems really got the numbers out tonight...wow...

Edwards and Obama- I watched all of their speechs on cspan this weekend- and the speechs were great- but the audiences, were amazing- so mixed- all ages, all strata, all colors....and quite a few people that I would bet used to be Repugs....and the thing about those speechs- I saw the CONNECTION factor...and I am sorry but Hillary does not Connect...sadly...( cuz as a woman , I would hope that a woman could connect...ce la vie..) Of course the commentators are kerklemped because the women were supposed to vote for Hillary , period.....but that theory has now been put to bed....for good..

thanks Thomas...sorry I rambled...

Bye Rudy.
Dodd is out,he is a good man and needs a chair with a big club in the next Dem administration. He is going to focus on FISa coming up now. Biden is out.
I wouldn't want to be Hillary's cat tonight.
Edwards surprised 'em. That's my guy,I hope he can start pulling in some money.

enigma4ever said...

Hey there Knuckles....
It was quite a night...boy I think that Rudy and his delayed strategy might indeed bite him right in the ass...yahooooo

Dodd -we need him in DC...Biden..we need him back in DC...Kucinich...we need him back in DC....

( Hillary's cat...too funny....I asked earlier- did she thank her family? I didn't hear it...)

Daniel: No, Obama is VERY Different and so is Edwards..we want Change...and we don't want Clinton...

I have watched ALL of their speeches and am on their mailing lists- edwards and obama both were different since day one....

and to be honest NO ONE can be like Bush- he is painted with a very evil criminal Brush...and Americans are done with that...236,000 showed up in freeezing weather- 9 degrees...and more than double showed up to vote DEM...it was amazing...

Don't worry Daniel....this was amazing...and inspiring....and Change is On the Way...

With all Democratic precincts reporting, Obama had the support of 38 percent of voters, compared to 30 percent for John Edwards and 29 percent for Hillary Clinton.

Wow! Obama has a healthy lead & Hill trails.
I'm glad she trailed, how she voted spoke more than her scripted words. Take that MSM!

Makes you think maybe the people are not just sheep lead by MSM. Seriously... things have hit an all time low. this is our golden opportunity to save ourselves.

Hooray!

If Thompson hadn't gotten into the race Ron Paul may have taken third on the RFN side.

I think that Thompson was suppose to be the firewall wall for Romney and he took votes that would have gone either to Ron Paul or McCain.

I do have one fear though and that is we may see another RFK if it looks like Obama may go all the way.

I would put nothing past the Republican Christian Fascist Nazi's or the Clinton establishment to retain the status quo.

I hope I'm wrong but history does repeat itself. There are many RFN nuts who would welcome being the next Eric Rudolph or Paul Hill.

The new Nazi Fourth Reich Party is as racist if not more than the old guard who have I believe become more tolerant of minorities than what is representing them now.

As far as McCain goes I no longer believe anything he says. After being swiftboated by the Fourth Reich he turned around and embraced Der Fuhrer Bush and his policies.

Now he has gone over the edge and panders to them for their votes. I believe that one of the reasons he supports the policies in Iraq is due to POW status from Vietnam.

Sometimes I believe he feels guilty for surviving the torture while others with him did not. He don't want to lose another war and for that he will sacrifice our troops to ease his guilt.

Like Vietnam we have already lost in Iraq and only more death and destruction will result unless we pull out now and put our own house in order.

We can not go on being the Policemen of the World without losing our Freedom because the American Taliban want to create an empire to rule while subjecting our own citizens to the same conditions that those in Dictatorship countries live under.

Sorry for the long rant, but it has to end now before its too late to save our souls from damnation and death. If not the whole world from destruction.

God Bless.

enigma4ever said...

AnonP: I do hear you...but this is a time for Hope , for Optimism....People are listening, watching , wanting change....What happened in Iowa is not some kind of fluke, some kind of accident....People there really did get to know the candidates, 239,000 DEMS showed up ( only 120,000) was the previous record. This shows that previous Repugs are DONE..and also many of the Independents ( 86,000) came out and made a decison for Change.

About Nutcases- there will always be nutjobs out there, who would do any DEM harm, sorry but we can not focus on that, it does no good at all. And I hate to say it, but the summer of 68, and even now I think there are many who remember 68.

I also think that many people are listening, and thinking and reading, more than the Media can ever acknowledge. And also people are angry and fed up. I also think Obama got alot of VET votes, and former REPUG votes, that the media never thought about.

Watch his speeches- he is amazing. So is Edwards, both of them really worked hard in that state, and reached out to people, it was really about the Diners, churches, living rooms, the late night nursing home speeches, Edwards and Obama BOTH reached out and CONNECTED. They also worked the Internet strongly, with letters, and updates, and videos.

Have Hope friend...

Mary: I think Hillary's" Experience" is not what matters, it is about the messege at this point...I dont like her personally, I don't like her Stance on my issues, from Iraq to Healthcare ( "mandatory" insurance??? and "tax Credits"? how the heck does that help most people?) and her stance on Iraq and Iran also I think came and bit her last night...and finally the Pundits say that as Women we must vote for her- NO we don't...we vote for the best person for the job.....I hope she does keep coming up third....yahoooooo

New Hampshire is going to be very very interesting....

Gryphen: yup....the Dynamic Duo.....

What powerful comments.....yes enigma change is good...and numbers do speak loudly....our TV's here is Canada are full of the US election campaigns....what happens there has significant impact on us....and any Canadian who thinks otherwise is living with their head in the sand....

Now as for Obama, the one thing that concerns me is, where did he come from....I mean before the campaign I had never heard of him...and now he is a knight in shining armour.....is he another JFK? He seems to be presenting that way...and hence that worries me as well....as the radicals won't like that...and we all know what that could mean.....I just have a gut feeling about him...and usually my gut instincts aren't wrong.....as a nurse you know what I am talking about....I am keeping a watchful eye.....

DivaJood said...

Look, Obama is a populist, and he was well known in Chicago for getting people to work together. He is quite well liked in Illinois, and when the traditionally Republican downstate Illinois voters embraced him in his Senate bid, it is because people in the state recognize his ability to listen and to get people working together.

That said, for MY taste, he's still to much in the center. If I still lived in IL, I would have supported his Senate bid, no question. But for President? I'm still a Kuchinich gal. Still, if it does come down to it being Obama, I will support him.

But the entire Republican field scares the bejezus out of me.

Anon-Paranoid said...

Let me inject that all I wrote clearly depends on us actually having elections in November.

Now I don't know if Obama is for real or not. I believe that he maybe and that is why I think they will not let him be the nomination.

They {the hidden supporters of the NWO} have planned for too long to enact there one ruler world and will not let anyone or anything stand in the way now.

I hope and pray Obama has more security to protect him as I fear what happened to Bhutto will happen to him.

The evil that permeates our government is not past ordering a hit on the person who could stop their plans dead in the track.

He will need massive protection until the elections {once again if we have them}are over to ensure the safety of him and his family.

Now I'm not saying anything will happen, however I would certainly feel better if history don't repeat itself and we see another RFK occurrence.

God Bless.

enigma4ever said...

Diva: For the Winning Team , there will need to be one person that reaches out to the disenfranchised Repugs and Moderates ( that is just the way of it.....) BUT he is well loved in Chicago- I remember reading he won his position by like 80% of the Vote, that is huge...and I know being a Chicago lady you probally know more than the rest of us....

Kucinich did contact his Iowa people to support Obama as their second choice, I have heard so did Dodd and Biden....( that says alot about Hill).

I also think his OUT of Iraq stance has earned him alot of respect....

all I know is for monthes on the morning cspan people have been calling in ON THE REPUG LINE TOO... and saying that he represents Change- and they like that.....

I also think he is the kind of guy that would sit down and work with Kucinich on issues..that is just my gut...

( Now I am still for Edwards...but I have thought all along they would make an amazing team...and we need a strong Team to beat the repugs out of the WH)

The repugs are scary...very...More War...More job losses, More "terra" mongering...

Smalltown RN: Diva answered your question, and as she lived in Chicago for many years- she knows more than me.....I remember Obama speaking at the 2004 campaign, somehwhere I even still have it on tape....He has a Messege, and the Messege is NO MORE Fear, it is time for Change and Hope....and I think there is a tipping point here, that So Much has happened...and people are sick of it.

****About Canada, I have to say this, Bush is like a Bad Puppy , he has crapped all over rugs everywhere he goes, all over the world....and everybody is out of paper towels at this point....the messes he has created all over the world- are massive....from Iraq to Gitmo to the Economy.....to secret prisons- the Bush Criminal Regime needs to Ended and prosecuted....but the effects on the world are not lost on anyone sadly....and are very real....I am so sorry....

Mary Ellen said...

Obama was just heard to say in New Hampshire that if he wins there, he wins the nomination. He shouldn't get to far ahead of himself. That's why I think he's too inexperienced for this race. His wife Michele has also made remarks in Iowa that Edwards can't win because Obama has more money. Very elitist. She's a real twit, this isn't the first time she's made stupid remarks in public.

enigma4ever said...

ME: I don't know what she has said as Off the Cuff remarks...but I have heard speeches on cspan...and I thought she was fairly eloquent and connected well, three of the speechs I saw were with diverse audiences and also with elderly, I was actually moved by her...and struck....Having seen her on Oprah , I also can say that she is indeed outspoken and has a strong mind and views, and for me that actually is very appealing....I don't ever ever want to see another Glazed Eyed Lauras in the WH....( sorry I guess my Twit criteria is different than yours)....I mean do your remember Laura after Katrina ? oye....I use Katrina to measure things now- and I know the Edwards and Obma and his wife would GO THERE...there would not have been bodies in the street- EVER.......but that is me...

About the Obama Statement- I just heard MSNBC SAY HE SAID IT...well- I dont really believe it or trust it, unless I hear HIM say it...the media has gotten ALOT wrong these past 7 years....

Anyways let's have hope for change and see what happens in NH.....

For me it is about hoping a GOOD team enters the Election....
and I beleive that Obama and Edwards as a team would have balance....

ANONP: I think the main lesson is that most of us remember the lessons of RFK and JFK and MLK....I just think after 7 years of pure hell with Fear and Terra Mongering we need to Hold onto HOPE....and start believing in Change for Something Better...

After all that has happened I still have some faith that People- the Real People can save this tattered country...I have never given up....and I like that Obama and Edwards both talk about HOW Broken we are...listen to their speeches from last night...they say it all , both of them....

Anon-Paranoid said...

I watched the caucus on tv while watching Olbermann on my computer.

Obama and Edwards both gave very powerful speeches and they definitely struck a chord with the people.

I too still have hope we can restore our Constitution and Respect\Integrity around the World.

I guess that I'm just to cynical when it comes to politics today.

Take care I have to start getting ready for the service tonight.

God Bless you.

enigma4ever said...

AnonP: you are not too cynical...we all have been through hell.....for too long...to be honest none of us have Real Reason to hope...but I believe it is like MLK said, that sometimes that is ALL we have....Do I have "Faith" in DC ??....NO, the fearmongers killed that...Do I "trust" anyone in DC or in Leadrship? ...NO....BUT, and it is a HUGE Butt....do I want Someone to Trust? Someone to have Faith in? yes...and do I have Hope...

But mostly I have Hope that WE THE PEOPLE will make the Change....that is so needed...and you are right if WE Don't......then Change won't come..
WE have to BE THE CHANGE....

ANONyP, dear friend, about your service tonight, I will send you much light and prayers as you pay tribute to your sister tonight....namaste..

No one has taken Obama seriously until now. He was a given to me. So wasn't the scenario. it will be mirrored in New Hampshire.
Huckabee was also a given in Iowa but he will be a distant third behind Romney and McCain will take it. In the end they say The winner in Iowa rarely goes on to win the Presidency but he will this year if elections are held.
Yes enigma we the people will make the difference.
Anon my thoughts are with you Buddy, Peace!

enigma4ever said...

Patriot: Hmmm, I am not sure Obama is a given...I think it will be a long slog to be honest....there are many states that I am still not sure about...but I do think that Hill thought she had California and New York all sewn up and I don't think that is true...
and I do think that Edwards is still really appreciated...I think sadly they could be battling each other- I hate that- I would rather have Obama and Edwards both battling Hill...and show how insincere she is....

Repugs- I think it is a mess- I don't know what will happen....there are still the Rudy and Ron Paul factors to play in NH ( although- I think Rudy will tank there and SC, and maybe even Florida) , Freddy- I don't think so...I think in NH there will be some McCain and Some Ron Paul and some Huck...but small show and split race....

and DEMS; I think it is still going to be tight for all three....but I do think Obama and Edwards will be top two there...WHY? because Healthcare and the War are the Biggest Factors Everywhere...( even for Repugs...it is THE equation...)

jmsjoin said...

I would like to see it wash out with Edwards obama primarily because of the age and experience factor though I think Obama has what it takes and will take advice. A good commander is made by the people he surrounds himself with. Look at Bush!
I would expect McCain Giuliani in New Hampshire primarily because those are my people up there though I hope we defeat them but I don't have a clue how other states will vote.

enigma4ever said...

Patriot: I don;t have a clue who it will be either...I I know being a New Englander - you probally have a better handle than most ...but I think that it could be the Election of the Unexpected....and not for people not being Knowledgeable and observant- but because frankly people have been through soooo much...it creates all different levels of decision making....( Ie. like Ron Paul being able to make a dent in the Heartland- he did not do badly last night- I would never ever have perdicted that...not here in the middle....)

I do think if the shit hit the fan- Obama is the kind of guy to sit down and gather a group of people to work on problems...and I like that...alot....
I think Edwards might have the same skills on that , but I am not sure....I do know he is not afraid to get his hands dirty and work hard...the "Jean" factor I call it...and I like it...

I forgot to say the other HUGE factor that is effecting the Elections- the Economy- and all that means from Jobs to Homeloss etc....

BTW Bush came out around noon after meeting with his economic advisors... and gave a shitty pissy litte "the economy is fine " speech- but he was pasty and sweaty....and the markets promptly dived....

If Bush plans to yell and spin at his damn State of Hell Address I wish him luck...

Thank Patriot...I really appreciate that you are always thinking things through...

Obama near the end of the race, used republican talking points against his opponents. He actually is doing a sophisticated triangulation thing. Oprah wouldn't back a loser.

There is nothing progressive about Ron Paul. he represents the most naked capitalism. His history is to be soft on racism.

Dennis Kucinich does a bait and switch. He is so against the war, then endorses the party nominee.

As smalltownrn says, it's all over the news here in Canada, too. Far more exciting than our own political races. I thought it might be Clinton vs Obama vs Edwards. But where did Obama come from? I'd never heard of him before either. Does he have enough experience at this point in his life to become President? Someone mentioned to me that Bill Clinton found a way to get a 3rd term if his wife wins. Hmmmm???? I'll be following this right to the end.

Renegade...I don't understand the Triangulation thing...but I just know that he is using tactics that are working...and yes Oprah would never risk her empire to help him ( and you know I don't mean that meanly...)

Kucinich mostly wanted to run to make sure that we kept talking about the War..and I am grateful for that...

I don't understand Ron Paul at all, 6-6 my son researched him and what he told me blew me away...scary ....( I checked his data - he was right on it...but it didn't make sense)

Okay....cpsan is now showing Huck and on stage with Chuck ...6-6 now calls these "HuckChuck events"...oye.....the band that he is playing with is "mama Kicks" ( what the bucket ???) ...cat is crying..yes, it is THAT bad...

okay ....off to read...more....and find the remote..( dog is asleep on it...)must change channel...before I suffer Cochlear bleed...

Oh hey Leslie...I bumped into you while commenting...Obama is an amazing person, the best way to know him- he has two really good books, one about his father ( 1996) and then last year "The Audacity of Hope", one of the most amazing books that I have ever read...( and I read it last year before he was running...)....He has worked in Chicago, and then was senator, he is all about The People and Grassroots....Chicago Politically is a good training ground...intense...and he has done more while in the Senate than Hill, and she has only been a senator for 2 years more than him...

About the Race- Obama wants us out of Iraq NOW....and that is one thing that appeals...and He is Change...Clinton is more of the Same Insider DC stuff...the other thing...and I don't mean this to be rude...but if she did not have Bill- would anyone Vote for her...I hate to say But I don't think so...

I don't like here..she acts Entitled...her speechs are awful...and many of her policies are Republican....ie. go to her Website- and guess what UNder Issues- Iraq is NOT even mentioned...
Okay I have rambled enough...I really like Edwards and Obama...( my son is HUGE obama fan...) and I have rooted and worked on both campaigns...worked on edwards Kerry out west in 2004...sad that he did not get to be the VP or pres then either...I love both of them and their families and WHAT they are trying to Bring Back to America...

E4e, you might want to check out a couple of my articles today. One is the video of Olbermann interviewing Edwards, and Edwards was highly conciliatory toward Obama. The other is an article on super-delegates. It seems that voters have less than 60% say on who gets the Democratic nomination.

I loved Bill's crestfallen expression. It was as if he hadn't had a BJ in weeks. ;-)

Tomcat: the Edwards interview last night was amazing....and really was concillatory. I love Edwards you know that, but I started looking at this through my son's eyes...And for him I wrote about Obama above...I had to...and I see something that I realize that I have been looking for...and I have read Audactity for Hope now three times...WHY? Because I am looking for Something....

Tomcat: I think in a way you have spoken a Truth that the Future will verify, an in short time. Their Coffers are empty right now , and Their blogs are deserted and have the omniance of a Funeral Home on Holiday.....And The Biggies (Lott, Warner,Hagel) have already abandoned the Stink like rats fleeing the Fish Fry...and the bones are rotting on the floor...

This sounds strange- but I think as a Party they have created their own demise.....

Now I have to say I really understand Obama reaching out to Repug Voters, I don't know if I could....but it is like this...there are Some Old School Repugs that did not like Bush and were not Theocrats and THEY need a Candidate...and also there are Many Military Families that have never voted DEM....and I need to say this....THEY are NOT the REGIME_ not all of them...and they too feel Disenfranchised and Have NO Party...so he is wise to Forgive and allow them to Vote for him...it is about Forgiveness..and In Africa it is one of the things that Mandela taught about Healing and Starting Over.....

and we will all have to think hard on this issue....
myself included...( and Tom don't worry- I still have anger at the Bush Regime...and what they have done to this country)/....

I will come over to read your post...

namaste....

Cart: It is not playing well, and your observations are being shared all over, blogs to newspapers and Editorials...I think what is disturbing...is that we all watched all this kind of"harping" and Petty Insults for the past 7 years, that is ALL we have seen the Bush Regime do- pick people to death....leaving carcasses all over....

NOW she herself and the Media, calls herself the "Clinton Machine", and this is Dehumanizing for ALL involved, she has embraced deconstructing her own Humanity...and that is a fatal mistake...and now she is going MORE negative...

Go Over to Huff Post and there is an article that Her People have fabricated MORE Negative Trash talk about Obama....she looks petty and if she keeps this up ...she looks well, small minded...and Aggressive....

{You are right that she did NOT look Presidential...she looked like a pissed off wife....which I guess is what she was for 8 years in DC with Bill ( and I find myself having more and more sympathy for him and Monica makes a WHOLE lot of sense now...hmm)}

It is one thing to vigorously debate ISSUES...it is another to ATTACK A PERSON... and she has now crossed that line...She has actually sadly spent TOO much time in DC...it seems that ALL she learned while a WIFE in DC...is HOW to Fight....Not how to Lead.

E4e, you may have misundertaken me. ;-)

I have no problem with Obama and Edwards reaching out to the sheeple that have been voting GOP. When I say that the GOP needs to become extinct, I'm talking about the machine not the people. A lot of them are truly well meaning folks that have been brainwashed from their pulpits and from watching Faux Noise. There's nothing wrong with them that education and access to factual information won't cure.
