Finally Friday Morn.....Thai Coffee on the porch....
I think I am going to go sit on my porch for a couple of hours and work on my book...and drink Thai Coffee...I have a huge headache, Thai coffee should help...We had thunderstorms last night ...maybe that is part of it...Something about Pressure Changes ( sounds reasonable-right?). I will be back later with a Blog Round Up& music....You know I got up early this am, thinking I would be able to see the Opening Ceremonies, and NBC is blocking it, and going to give a homogenized edited version in primetime. Personally I think that is pretty tacky.If anyone has a Online Streaming Version, please let me know....
Down below there is plenty of news and tidbits and ponderings.....
I will be back after the coffee....( Click the Title if you want to learn what is Thai Coffee)

looove the blue! what a cozy porch it looks like and I don't know about the view (can't tell) but if I'd be any closer (as in,same state and city hehe), I'd be over for coffee..still have to check out what thai coffee is though..
hugs
Ingrid
and no, ever since moving to the States I never feel the urge to watch the Olympics..what's the point?
just saw the recipe..it strikes me more middle eastern than thai but hey, it's not up for discussion..it's coffee for cryin' out loud! [s]
Ingrid
Ingrid::
Hey there...you are so funny...the porch is on a hill- there are lilacs in front...and a kinda steep hill...but I am also overlooking alot of trees...old tall trees..so it is a great porch....one of the best I have ever had...you would be quite comfy...and it gets evening sun- but early morn and afternoon it is still cool...I would even let ya sit in my rocker ;-)
the coffee- it could be Mid Eastern- you are right....you are right it is coffee...I am hoping that caffeine gets rid of my headache...
Thai make it really smooth- pour the cream and spices in first and then stir the coffee in and then just a smidge of ice...so it is luke warm...and it is thicker than regular coffee...and I add nutmeg and a ton of cinnamon...cardamon and creme does have a nice flavor...when I did homecare I had a patient that would always make it for me...better than any starbucks ;'-)
I think more thunderstorms are on the way. Weather patterns are definitely shifting faster than ever before. No, I don't have the numbers to back that up, but I believe we all see it.
Man, I could go for some coffee. Time to brew another pot!
Randall::
I agree- sure seems like it...and hey I will put more on for you.....yup...need it..
You relax and enjoy the porch, coffee, scenery, and fresh air! I had a few videos on various aspects of the opening ceremonies but ignored them because I had to cover McCain's latest so called humor ad about our man Obama.
I just went back to get them for you and they are gone. I really only am interested because of the pollution and the fact that i expect something to happen eventually! Take care!
I don't like Bush there in the first place but Putin is there too and Georgia is erupting and asking for our help in what respect who knows? Oh man!
Okay Patriot:::
you are not helping my Headache ;-)
( jus kidddin')
Now- first off-
(1) don't worry about the videos Youtube has made a strong committment and so has NBC that we not see ANYTHING...yup....could be anywhere else and see everything..but nope....Canada is watching it all day today..but I could not even live stream it...ce la vie..it's really okay...
(2) Bush is there with Putie..that is nice...I guess they are both "sports fans"
(3) some good news- I just read that BOTH Bush and Cheney will speak at the OPENER for the GOP- may it be the kiss of the death for that convention- I mean Dick's ratings are like what -single digit ???
lordy....that should send alot of repugs packing...
(4) McCramps is making one McAss moment after another...he might speak at a Klan event -who knows??...( the Biker event was pretty damn low)....it is getting more absurd by the moment....
So have some cofeee...164 days to go- we can do this...
enigma
You know, when I found out Cheney was going to be speaking too my first thought was good that will sink them but I believe oh never mindI'll shut up. Enjoy your coffee take care of that head ache!
Patriot::
it's okay ...my first thought was hmmm, but see Here's McCramps trying to paint himself as this big Maverick and so independent- and WHO Makes the opening speechs ????yup...Bush and Cheney...there is NO way anyone is going to forget Seeiing that...and Cheney is hated - even amoung Repugs...so it is perfect...and then the Soundbites that can be used in Obama Ads- Bush and Cheney- THEIR OWN WORDS....will be on the airwaves...that is what needs to happen...let everyone see them for the Terramongers and Hatemongers and Warmongers they are- and you know they will be full tilt....so see - it really can be a Useful thing...nauseating and disgusting....but very useful...it is is also Labor Day Week- so actually they won't get alot of good attention- alot of people will ignore and BBQ and watch baseball....
okay...there you go a little smidge of hope...
oh ps..if you're having headaches and they are pressure related (does Randall live close to you?) then take sudafed (nurse, heal thyself)..I have been feeling the pressure (low) these past days and it's either the low pressure system or mold..
Ingrid
ps..hey, James and I will have to try that way of making coffee..sounds neat..when blueberry and I finally get together AND she drinks coffee, we'll have to try some in your honour.. B and I are aiming for AFTER the kids go back to school..
There is an article making its way across the "internets" that lists Cleveland in the Top Ten Dying Cities.
Is it really as bad as all that or is the media just blowing things out of proportion?
Yeah just a smidge! I just well not just but with the complicit MSM and the White House saying it is too close to call that to me translates to another stolen election but... I have to laugh it is just so hard to sound nice when so much is going on. Edwards just admitted to that affair but said he didn't love her. What the heck does that matter. Oh, keep smiling!
Chris:::
it is actually worse...I have been thinking of posting photos- esp of the downtown urban loft area that I was first living in...or the area I am in now- full of empty houses,2 miles from center of downtown ( that are now being auctioned) and finding fulltime work here is a nightmare...Yes. it is bad....
many businesses and shops gone, shut up...metalmen raiding buidlings for metal....the emptiness and the quiet is really somthing....
And FOUR cities here were listed in the top 10, in Ohio...this state is hurting...
I don't know if 6-6 and I are staying...I am seriously thinking of looking for jobs in other states...How is your area holding up ? I mean I am really starting to wonder if it like this in other places ? I don't know...
How is NY ? ( there are a ton of film schools there...)
Ingrid::
yup- I take sudafed, advil ANYTHING ...coffee finally helped..and yes...when you and blueberry have coffee throw extra cinnamon in and whipped cream on top and some nutmeg...( ENIGMA Thai tea :-) I will be there in spirit....
Patriot:::
whelp...not good..he didn't love her- well that is dandy...geez...poor elizabeth....shit...sigh...off to find another cuppa...GOP will be humping this story seven ways to sunday...damnit...
Love Thai coffee when I can get it.
I am sorely disappointed in Edwards.
What a legacy. This will be all anyone remembers about him, not even his work with poverty.
Mariamaria...
yup..I sadly think you are right...this will be ALL we hear about for the next three weeks...the MSM will go nuts over it...this is almost worst than Bill Clinton...
I had thought he was better than doing something like this...that he had morals..a code...that he loved Elizabeth...really loved her..and while she was fighting cancer...so sad...for so many reasons...
Enigma,
Rochester metro is a region in transition.
Once, two companies dominated the economy: Kodak and Xerox. No more.
Now, the economy is heavily healthcare, bio-tech and bio research and of course, education. We have the University of Rochester (an amazing school), RIT - the Rochester Institute of Technology (competes with MIT) and a dozen, smaller liberal arts colleges, and MCC -- Monroe Community College (the largest in NY state.)
Increasingly, Rochester is a place of the haves, and the have nots. If you are a high school drop out, there are few opportunities but if you are a professional person, life here is good.
The suburbs around here: Fairport, Penfield, Perinton, Henrietta, Brighton, Greece and Webster, are boomtowns. Housing is plentiful with something for everyone. You can get a really decent 3/2 ranch for as low as $109,000 to $149,000, or in hoity-toity areas like Pittsford and Mendon, estates cost $750,000.
We live in Penfield (10 miles from downtown) and 30 minutes from the Finger Lakes where New York's wine industry is located. Cultural events are year round and affordable and highways are excellent.
The four big hospitals are Rochester General, Strong Memorial at University of Rochester, Highland and Park View in Greece. The average RN salary is $65,000 and if you specialize (like cardio, oncology, infectious disease, ICU, ED), you can make $50 to $60 an hour which is $98,000 a year. Not bad when you factor in the affordable housing.
Drawbacks? Winter. I still haven't made the adjustment but it's getting better. The airport is dinky. I'm used to SFO and LAX with 3,000 flights a day. ROC has about 300 flights a day. Property taxes are higher than California but the "Lege" just voted to cap them, so this will improve.
Overall, I like it here quite a lot and the longer we're here, the less fire in belly I have to return to California and the 38 million people. We may just stay here and put down roots. Plus, it's just drop dead gorgeous here 3 seasons out of 4. I mean really stunning. Especially along the historic Erie Canal. It's like Disneyland -- only it's real.
Wow Chris...
You should write tour guides for the Travel Channel..come to think of it people should have a show telling them about different place to LIVE..wouldn't that rock..hmm, I might have to write them...( at this point I don't need travel - I need life tips..)
Pay here for nurses is what I was making 20 years ago working in Vermont or early Seattle days..I am not happy and I dont have healthcare..and I need a school for 6-6...the school I had picked out- nope...( they are tearing the school apart and it is all in different levels of distruction- but the film school was a critical factor- within the year he wil do online courses and then I think we will need to look at moving so he can be In State ..( Cali and NY are my top picks...but I am even looking at New England and NOLA...and ???who knows...)
Is Cleveland Dying...I really love this city..but what I see does not bode well...not good...and I have to think of the best future for 6-6.....and it's not here...( too bad because I love my old house- as crumbly as it is...it's home..)
But thanks..that is all really helpful...and I need real info from people living there...
You could always ring the RN recruiter for the big four hospitals and talk salaries with them?
If you have 20 years experience, you should command top $$$ and at Strong (it's owned by the University of Rochester) you would get New York state benefits and retirement.
I know you're term vested in 5 years which is really great and all the hospitals offer defined benefits. No one can fuck with your retirement income.
Chris:::
Wow...that is interesting..they don't have that here..at all...there are no benifits , no FT jobs..they are bringing in agencies...nothing...yup..gulp I have 20 years ( which here- they don't want to pay or hire- I had two different recruiters tell me they could not afford to pay a 20 year nurse- they would rather hire a new grad- they offer per diem...that is not good enough at this stage of the game..)
Well, I guess I picked a great day to take a break of politics. Sheesh.
well, dear...it seems that NOW Edwards is admitting what we were all dreading..I too was trying to take a little break- it litterally lasted not even AN HOUR !!!
sorry...this too shall pass- right?
I blogged the Edwards fracas back on July 25 and phew, his supporters filled my email box with all sorts of goodies.
Now the MSM is finally admitting it.
But I see a number of lefty blogs refuse to mention it. Curious.
Edwards is a pig. While the dutiful and loyal wife is home battling cancer, he's our nailing a bottle blonde bimbo.
Elizabeth should take him for every cent and wave "buh bye" in the rear view mirror.
7:30PM...
the Olympics are on..NBC ..the same shitheads that blocked us from seeing it LIVE...this morning..with the rest of the world...they even blocked Youtube and Time Warner made sure we could not even live stream it through other venues....my friend in the NW called and asked if I had and International stations or CBC..so I ran downstairs and nope- ALL those have been removed from the LIneup...
See here is the thing...I used to be kinda athletic...tennis, hurdles and swimming and half marathons....so I understand what drives them..and I wanted to atleast watch them walk in ....shoot...
Politically you all know how I feel...so I am just grumbling here....
Okay now will watch NBC's spectacle...and I guess I will shut up...sorry
ooops bumped you there Chris...
I had held off blogging it- out of respect for Elizabeth...but...such as it is...pretty damn dissappointing...,..
I have no idea what Elizabeth will do,.....but she does have a home and kids and new job...but considering how hard the family worked to help his campaign.....
just sad....
( please tell me WHY is it that these Politico types always pick Such Dogs ???I am serious- she is not a head turner....I don 't understand.....and Elizabeth is an amazing woman..)
Oh Chris:::
that last one was so poorly worded....I meant that the Bimbo was such a dog...NOT Elizabeth- I think she is beautiful..and wow...just so sad for her...
7:47 OMG WTF ???? Moment of the Day....
So I am watching the Olympics....and there is an AD...with marines- all decked in their uniform.and fancy music..and I am thinking...wow pricey time slot for the Marines to buy an ad- and then all of the sudden they flash to UH-OH a flag being folded...for a funeral...shit...
It is an Ad for BUSH"S FUNERAL HOME..yes that is the name of the funeral home..( I will try to find on Youtube later..and yes , post...) It was an AD telling HOW MANY they have buried and serviced....is that REALLY Something that worth advertizing...that is Sooooo sad....what a horrible ad...But a GREAT ANTI War ad...Here in Ohio...there have been so many lost and wounded....and ALOT of suicides...so maybe that was there way of sending a messege...
Will someone please explain to me why it is OK for John McCain to run for president after admitting that he has had several affairs and also after taking up with current wife Cindy while he was still married to former wife Carol.
And in the meantime John Edwards' political career is over according to the MSM, because he had an affair twi years ago. I don't get it.
Sub Teach:::
Hey there..I have no idea what will happen to his career...McCramps had an affair and live with his wife while filing for divorce, and "courting" Cindy...his wife Carol was recovering from an accident...( not dying though) and then cindy and johnny married- and his divorce was not even final.....
Yeah- Johnny should not make big hay of this...he has his own hay to worry about...
I think that he lied about it..that is upsetting...but that he did it while Elizabeth has been so sick and fighting so hard for her life....( as a woman I just find it kind of shitty). BUT I think many politcal guys have affairs...IKE, JFK, FDR etc...
Sub Teacher,
It's not OK. John McCain is a douche on so many levels. There's a curious history among GOP men when they decide to run for Congress: they dump their wives if the woman appears simple and won't look "Beltway" hanging off their arm. Newt Gingrich, Bob Dole, and Dan Burton dumped their wives.
What John Edwards did has nothing to do with him being a Democrat or anything else. He's a married man, who took vows and his wife is at home battling terminal cancer. I have to wonder? Why wasn't he home with Elizabeth supporting and helping her? Instead, he was shtupping a woman behind his wife's back.
I'm a gay man and I've been in a monogamous relationship coming up on 16 years in January. I have never, ever cheated on Jim. I'm no paragon and I have more faults than I care to admit but, when you make a commitment to someone, in my book and by my values, you had better the hell mean it.
The mainstream media is reporting Edwards is paying Reille Hunter $15,000 a month from John Edwards 2008 PAC.
If this is true and I have no sources confirming it but, if this is true, Edwards is using donor money to support his mistress and he's in very serious legal jeopardy.
PAC money is very strictly regulated and it can't go to pay for mistresses to live in gated communities or for the care and feeding of love children.
This is a mess.
Chris::
I was married for 20...and what killed our marriage was a whole another story- but both of us were loyal and loved each other...there was nothing like this...and there was plenty of stress..hardship....
I am not defending it- I was pointing out that alot of DC people and Poiticos' DO this...I don't really understand it or condone it- frankly I am mystified...puzzled...why would he do this while she is battling cancer is beyond me....but I have seen Chemo spouses do it before...
BUT that he risked all of us too...that really bothers me..
I read over at Huffpost that he did spend PAC money on 4 videos- totaling 100,000...that is serious....
I don't know what happens from here...I have NO idea...none...but it isn't pretty....
