Pete Seegar's Song About the BIG Fool....43 years old and still Revelant....give it a Listen...

This Song is the "Big Muddy" by Pete Seegar, it was written in 1963. The Smothers Brothers fought long and hard with CBS to get it on their Comedy Hour...and it made clear references to the BIG Fool in the Whitehouse.....in 1968 they finally got it on the show. After reading Steve Martin's Born Standing Up Autobiography it stunned me to realize that these two Brave Brothers really took a stand against the War of their generation...and eventually cost them their show. Steve Martin was one of the writers, and he and the other creative talent on that show backed the Smothers Brothers 100%, even knowing that they faced Firing.

This Video is about that Show, that Era and Standing up to The Powers to Be about War.....the Big Fools.
The Video is interwoven with the angst of this Era and this Regime.

The Smothers Brothers were staunchly anti-Viet Nam. I was going to say we don't have anyone like them now, and then I remembered we have Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher. I just don't watch as much TeeVee.

You are right E~ the internets & blogosphere are a wonderful bridge for us to break away from mainstream thinking & manipulative news that fails to bring the truth to the table. A beautiful think tank for us to share thoughts, sharpen our humor & sarcastic talents, and be supportive through hard times, get suggestions for help and resources, and or just give encouragement & or cyber hugs.
It has been wonderful avenue to enjoy art, music, critical thinking- a technological cornucopia of offerings, seasoned with genuine caring & friendships.

Thanks for posting the Seeger song. History does repeat itself... & most of us are counting the days to get the big fool off the hill.
Cool that the Smothers brothers fought to have the song aired. they were manipulating the media even back then!

Thank you for being such a good a cyber friend ~

Great song by Pete Seeger and still so true today - like so many anti-war songs from that era (Phil Ochs is another one who wrote a lot of songs that were very prophetic for this time as well as very apt for his own time).

There is a difference between Johnson and Bush though - Johnson suffered from the guilt. The chants outside the White House..."Hey Hey LBJ, How many kids did you kill today?" It got to him. Bush couldn't care less.
