Sunday Ponderings: McCarthyism by the Pool, Bangled Banner, Someone tell NBC to stop Showing King George....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Don't go in the Water, there are Pinko Liberals in There"
*************************************
I have been reading on a couple of Blogs that in many ways it feels like the 50's, and I have to agree. The Repugs have created an environment where people that want such simple things as Healthcare and Jobs and improved education and housing are called "Socialists", "Commies". And if we want the troops home, we are called "unpatriotic". If we say we are more scared of What Bush will do then any terrorists, we are called "extremists".If it was up to Bush and McGramps All of us would be watched and put on lists and monitored properly, because we are the Extreme ones that need watching. It has been shown one million are on Terra Watchlists. Gee Imagine if It was the McCarthy Era, Joe would be considered too damn Lenient.
So What do you think ,Does it feel like the 50's ?
***********************************
So last night Phelps won his race and his mom was watching and it was exciting and moving and amazing. And then NBC had to ruin it and pan to the King, damn. And then the National Anthem played....kind of.....It started in the Middle, and then right before "Land of the Brave"it ended. Was it a Freudian Musical Moment?
**********************************
Speaking of Awkward moments, did anyone else see the Shrub try (cough) try to play Volleyball ? It was as bad as watching him fall off the Segway....How hard is it to hit a Ball in the air. And the Commentators blamed "it on his Shoes "???? ( I kid you not) And speaking of Suck Moments, we tune in to watch the Athletes, I am sick of NBC showing Dear Leader George and his poppy and dazed wife and then they had to add Kissenger in there for extra nausea.....
*********************************
Has anybody else noticed how bad the Air Looks ? It looks horrendous, positively soupy ? NBC Dr.Snyderman ( their "health consultant ") stated it was "hazy" and that it just needed some rain. I hate to tell her that that Haze Looks like Pollution, and that particulate matter is how Athletes get Asthma....What are your thoughts ?
*********************************
Be here at noon you and you get Pancakes....if not you get Music and News below. And yes, there are posts below about the Edwards Mess, Ron Suskinds Book,and Anthrax, and Zen/Soothing Videos at ENIGMA CAFE, and Posts on Homelessness and Iraq War at Peace Tree , and some Blog Round Ups.....Have a good Sunday....We will be here watching the Olympics.....
    I have a YouTube up of the Motherfucker from Midland slouched down in the seat banging the American flag dismissively on his leg while Pickles furiously fans herself in the heat.
    As far as watching this disgusting spectacle, it ain't happening in ou house. We're boycotting the 2008 Summer Olympic Games from Communist China.
    Communist China's human and civil rights record is one of the worst of any nation on earth. Prior to the start of the New World Order-approved spectacle, the Chinese secret police rounded up and arrested all the known dissidents in Beijing. Also, the bully boys in Beijing sent out orders to local bars that they weren't to admit or serve "blacks or Mongolians." The few gay bars have been shuttered during the games.
    I read an American was stabbed to death and his wife injured as their daughter looked on. What a mess. I hope NBC loses his a$$ after paying $900 million to broadcast this nightmare.
    if you look under the Video- the last sentence is about your video....
    I was going to boycott- but 6-6 made me look at it from another angle...that the athletes have trained for years for this- and it is about them..period...I am not about the pageantry- but I do respect the athletes..should bush be there- NO..absolutely not....and as a Buddhist I have very grave concerns about the human rights issues- but if that were the case-- we also should not even be allowed or invited as a country...
    6-6 also pointed out that the young people will be exposed to other cultures and peoples and maybe that will plant another seed for change...another revolution....so I watch with him...the parts that matter...
    Will NBC lose money- who knows...will their sponsers lose money- probally - I think they already are...
    but I do hear you and I share your concerns....but I live with a teenager..and I share this with him..the good and the bad..and we look at all of it...from all angles..that is all I can do...
    I missed the reference to my entry.
    You're watching it? I keep hearing the NBC TV "personalities" are really "on." It's cornpone to the max but served up in Kung Pao sauce.
    I heard Matt "cocaine" Lauer tried to guilt tripped viewers into feeling good about Communist China by showing Chinese children and saying, "You can't help but feel good about the Olympics and China when you see this."
    Puke! FOFLMAO!
    lol...I can not and will NOT watch Matt- yes, we do boycott Matt- cuz enigma has thrown alot of things at the TV and called matt a douchebag toooo many times...I keep hoping that when they do their WHERE in the world is he?? that they lose him somewhere...gee I hope he and bush can squeeze in a round of golf....
    okay now I must scrape more vomit out of my keyboard...thank you for that ;-)
    Wow! You are more awake this AM than I am... the liquid gold is brewing now.
    As for the Olympics- I agree E, this is a culminating moment for ahtletes who have worked hard to get to this event. And unlike the jerkwad announcers, I enjoy the International element & I especially like unexpected wins, from people from unknown countries & unlikely winners. It is especially sweet to have someone come out of nowhere & win.The Latvian men kicked some US butt in volleyball for instance.
    There is no doubt that China is an oppressive regime, and if there is a haunting calm, it is because any dissent has been shut down or cut off with an iron fist (I did a post about this Reality Check, and what is going on in Tibet right now).
    We are NOT supporting China or it's Human Rights violations, or the whole political bullshit that resulted in china even being selected to host the Olympics-- although I would like the IOC to put Human Rights & air quality on the list of things that matter when choosing a venue. Truth is most countries who do host the Olympics find it is a huge financial burden, & a security nightmare.
    Matt Laurer should have his mouth Duct taped. His comments are America-centric, and annoying. He seems to have some weird hair dye & budget haircut too.
    On to E's list of topics:
    • Socialists are the new liberals. Do people fall for that crap?
    • Does it feel like the 50's? Well... we certainly have gone backwards with Bush. More Stone age, I think. As for the us & them, live in fear concept, I guess it is.
    • I saw Phelps burst into laughter when the anthem cut off @ the Land of the Free part of the song. You have to think it was not a techno error, someone making a statement.
    And while Bush makes an international buffoon of himself (as if he wasn't already!)...
    it makes me wonder what VP Dick is back home doing in his undisclosed location?
    Go create a distraction George, I'll cut some deals at home.... don't worry about a thing....). Am I the only one who is creeped out by his seclusion? He is seen mostly for an occasional fundraiser. We see & hear from bin Laden more than we do from Dick Cheney.
    I halfway expect McSame to choose him for VP just because no one knows where to find him to tell him to come out of his snake cave, that his term is over.
    I did catch the Bush volleyball debacle. I halfway expected Misty May to deck him with her Karate like chop slice, hurling the volleyball squarely upside the head.
    I don't know how Bush is in a public crowd as they are showing him. Maybe they are doing Blue Screen editing? Or seating of the crowd is staged-- he is surrounded by 200 secret service people?
    The air is bad-- they mentioned it in the men's bike race, and US officials did their own air quality testing. They rattled off a list of toxic particulates. I can't believe air quality is not a part of the selection process. The air is much better than the normal soup-- most all factories are shut down & cars have been severely restricted. We are seeing the new & improved version of Beijing air quality.
    The elixir of awakeness is kicking in.....
    Ahhhh
    There IS a certain feeling of the 50's ... the Being Suspicious of Your Neighbors if They are Different from You, that is like the 50's for sure. And the Put On A Happy Face, yup 50's. The State of Denial many Americans are Living In = more 50's.
    But we are missing the relative prosperity of the 50's. It was an economic boom time, post war building boom to house all those new families booming. If you were part of it, you had a feeling that every day was better than the previous one ... and furthermore, you were sure it was going to keep getting better. OK, so a lot of it was BS Govt lies, but people built their lives in relative peace and prosperity ... something we do not have now.
    ps, the air quality in Beijing is visibly bad (fog / haze, my ass). As we're watching it, I'm amazed (as Fran commented above) that what we are seeing is the cleaned up air after factories being shut down & traffic restricted for a month. No wonder the residents wear permanent filter masks! And I stopped listening to Matt when he blamed some of the Beijing air on Gobi desert sand! Sheesh! Maybe that is why they are locking out Mongolians (as Christopher referred to above) ... they are blaming them for their bad air!
    DK:::
    okay back from cleaning ( some of it- my normal sundays...)you are right Matt is a twit- uyeah it' s desert sand..and like Dr Snyderman said- they just need to have some rain 0 cough cough.....yeah, and normally they do wear masks...and everything you said about the 50's is true...so true...
    Fran:::
    wow you have indeed had your caffeine...you are on a roll...you answered all my questions- and yes indeed Matt lauer is a total tool with his strange haircut...now about the public bush- be sure to go to FROM THE LEFT and watch the video of him waving his flag- it is really funny- I saw it the night it happened- and I dont laugh easily at anything bush..nope....
    Otherwise I sat here and nodded and clapped to everything you said...wow...well said...
    I'm ignoring the Olympics. The events I like to watch are played on ice and snow, so I have to wait two more years. Besides, there's less doping and steroids cheaters in the Winter Olympics.
    You are on target but this is a lot worse than Mcarthyism, the Nazi's, WW2 and the great depression combined but I will be nice! Some are getting it that we are the enemy and the terrorists are merely the tool!
    That childish scum Bush seems to be trying to hog the limelight. He thinks we want to see him act like a goon ball!
    I hate to be an ass hole or wish ill of anyone but I would wish Bush had a heart attck if it wasn't Shumley I mean Cheney. I saw the scum having fun and it only serves to tee me off!
    I caught Snyderman too and she was saying the pollution was low but the haze was because of the mountains and the humidity. Yeah, that "humidity" drifts to California and they inherit China's pollution. Seems like whenever they want to show "nice" China they show pictures of the one day last week when there was A clear sky!
    Have a nice day! I am watching water polo and laughing imagining you guys playing in your cellar. Keep smiling and have a nice day!
    While we are rightly criticizing China for its human rights record, let us not forget that this country, the good ol USA has five percent of the population and 25% of the imprisoned people in the world.
    We have more than two million prisoners in the US. TWO MILLION Americans behind bars. China with 1.3 billion people, has FEWER prisoners than we do, with about 1.5 million prisoners.
    believe me- I am not ra-ra America...I think that Bush is there says it all- he is a War Criminal..and yes...our Death Penalty and Imprisoned and drug laws etc etc etc .....( I think we have no room to judge or criticize...our govt has NO track record with human rights OR caring for OUR people....ie Katrina..and how immigrants are treated...and well...let's talk torture and rendition and illegal spying on citizens and there the Torturer in chief sits....bored and yawning in the cheap seats....patriotism ? ah nope)
    oh another note...China does have alot of people imprisoned that it should not....professors, students, dissidents, writers , Bloggers?, and WHO knows who else....BUT if Busco Regime continues...I am sure we are not far behind now are we?
    Patriot:::
    yeah..I watched the polo and the Bball online...( felt kind of piggish watching both at the same time- but hey..) And I watched the Biking with the gals...so sorry they got rained on...and jus for the record- to Ms Propaganda Snyderman....WITH the rain the AIR still looked like crap- and NO it was not just humidity.....
    Watched the Beach Volleyball- one of my favs- and wow...they are so tall- and graceful....and music....they are playing in the rain...and one of the RoboCameras got struck by lightening...and they keep playing ( I guess that is okay- made me a little nervous...but what do I know...) It's raining...but I don't think they look any cooler....
    the good ol USA has five percent of the population and 25% of the imprisoned people in the world.
    Isn't the number actually higher when you factor in all the people involved in the prison/courts system, like being on parole, sex crimes monitoring, etc.?
    I read a piece a while ago that Americans towns decimated and ravaged by NAFTA (Berlin, NH for one), are marketing themselves as great destinations to build brand, spanking new, private prisons. Prisons are like the new WalMart, only with better salaries and benefits.
    All I know is as an American, an openly Gay American, I am free to live where I want, say what I want, speak out against the Bush junta and his war and economic and environmental policies on my blog, and I'm not thrown in reeducation prisoners to unlearn my contempt for Bush and Cheney. This right isn't accorded Chinese nationals. It's a very different world there.
    Chris:::
    good point....very...
    yup...I agree..if we were in China- there is a good chance that ALL of us that blog speak out and write and live lives that are different ( buddhist, gay or ??? ) would be in prison or dissappeared...
    just for the record here Blackwater has many contracts with prison services and contracts with FEMA to detain you know...and there are large camps already set up in Alaska and Texas...empty but ready.....jus sayin'
    ***************************
    I just watched the Brit girl win the biking road race...so moving she was jumping around in the rain so happy...and so unexpected...
    Enigma,
    If we were in China, we would be in prison and I would be making cold Soba noodles for the guards so I could get weekend passes to go home and see Jim and Ginger. They would also try to convict me of a worse crime so my healthy organs like my heart, liver and kidneys could be harvested for transplant into the failing carcass of some wealthy American or European.
    enigma4ever said...
    Chris::
    I would be in the cell next to yours singing off key and making curtains and growing herbs in a window box ( jus to piss off the guards ;-)
    ......and yet I would still sweet talk the guards and hand roll them clove cigarettes to help my friend get passes home ;-)
    they would not want my organs ...cuz we all know I am heartless...
    Christopher said...
    The organ thing so totally and completely freaks me out that I feel like I'm walking sideways.
    If you willingly sign an organ donor form or card, then great, you're helping people, but in Communist China, prisoners have no say over the dominion of their organs.
    Last summer, there was this visiting exhibit here in Rochester called "The Human Body." It was at the Rochester Science Museum. I was grossed out by the ads, Jim, the RN in training, was mildly interested. I told him to go alone cuz' I'm not interested.
    Anyway, it turned out all these pickled people, men and women, were curiously, all Asian-looking. It turned out their bodies upon death, weren't buried or cremated but pickled and sold to a company who provided the subjects to the museums for display. I almost threw up when I heard this.
    enigma4ever said...
    Chris:::
    yup...it was here first...and I think I blogged it last summer...but totally foul....here if you donate your body to science - well I got some horra stories....anyways- I hear you...
    at this point nothing phases me....nothing...
    ( okay- Matt Lauer does trigger my gag reflex if I watch him before I have had any prilosec - hehe....that is right-he is being boycotted medically here !!!)
    One of the things about McCarthyism is that HUAC and other bullies tried to make the case that all US communists were spies, and that anyone they support--from labor unions to Dr. King--must be spies too. I do see a parallel today, but the current incarnation's slicker, more sophisticated, more effective, and aided with technologies that Orwell couldn't have imagine.
    Forgive me, but "Land of the brave?"
