Saturday Afternoon....8.16.08...Dog Days of Summer, Brownies and a Bad Book...

Would love to go to a beach like this...white sand...a nice big umbrella...sit there stare at the sea....read a good book..sigh...

I have been reading "The Great Deluge" by Douglas Brinkley ( it's about what really made Katrina so devastating....really good, really mind opening...and yeah, really sad...really unsettling)....I stayed up most of the night with a sick doggie..so it was the perfect book to sit and read in between vomit rounds. ( I have no idea what my little yellow Lilly dog ate, probably something out on a walk....but she should not have eaten it.)Why is it that kids and animals always throw up after 2am ? When people speak of the Dog Days of Summer, I wonder if that includes miles of puppy vomit ? Poor little thing...

So I am a little out of sync today. Later I am watching Robert Downey Jr's "Chaplin " movie- got it from the Library. ( The Old Time photos I have been blogging with were done by Mack Sennett, who made alot of the Chaplin movies and silent comedies...so this is a part of my Twenties fascination...obsession.)

And yes, I guess I will watch the Saddleback Event, might have to make brownies to make that more palatable....but I am going to try to watch the Phelps Last Swim too....I will leave an open thread up for both....Later.Meanwhile there is plenty scroll down and read....the Georgia Mess to Edwards Mess to Drunken Commander Mess to McGramps Mess...take your pick...and then there is some humor and a bit of music....I will be back later.

Now the music...it's Robert Downey Jr singing a song he wrote" Man Like Me"...and if you click the title you can hear "Smile" that he recorded in ONE take for the Chaplin Movie....this man can sing...

Need to know how to make some damn fine brownies ? go to my food blog....

poor sweetie, I know all about sleep deprivation.. heck, I had not slept for at least 48 plus hours due to my cold but last night.. konked!! I feel so great now..my kingdom for a good night sleep.. just think how better you feel when you konk out tonight..

I woke up with a blasted headache but still managed to post until I thought I was gonna..ehm..follow your doggie route. (headaches to me equals..) so I went to bed (James came back from his Boston trip so he took the kids out) with a ziploc bag of ice (two bags) and a big glass of goodies (headache powder dissolved in water) and ehem..two little chocolate candy bars. I know I know!! stupid thing to eat and what do I watch oh naked sushi chef?? Rick Bayless on PBS from 'Mexico one plate at a time' cooking braised short ribs with arbole chiles, white beans, mushroom and beer (http://www.rickbayless.com/recipe/view?recipeID=56, just so you know) and chocoflan (it'll be up his website too) and chili-potato soup...now I'm starving!! sigh..

anyhow..if you were here, I'd say let's cook for each other since I think our dinner table conversations would be great! Not to mention the food.. oh if only we (your faithful visitors) could get together to eat and talk politics..hmm...I'm thinking meat now.. excuse me while I go through Rick's recipe box..

hugs and take a little nap too..double hugs and a tummy rub for the little pupster.. throwing up is no fun...

I put up a Brownies receipe for tonight--- over at Naked Sushi....had to...I think we might all need them tonight...

thanks for mentioning chilies and ribs...I can now drool at random,.....

Dogs and cats, too -- always after 2AM -- guess that's how long it takes for whatever they scarfed for dinner to come back up. I can't tell you how many times I've been awakened by the horrid sound of pet-puking. Nothing gets you up out of bed faster than the driving thought of moving them onto the tile floor before they can wreck the carpet. Think if there are any possible poisonous plants where you walk the dog at night. Nightshade, castor bean, jimsom weed, dracena, philodendron come to mind. Or maybe a neighbor sprinkled some vermin poison, ant poison, snail bait or pest spray a little too close to the sidewalk? Plenty of water, but no food for 12-hrs usually solves it. Pepto-bismal (if you can find the NON aspirin formula). Otherwise, TUMS!

Now about this faith forum tonight ... I hope it doesn't turn into the same thing Hillary & Obama did a few months ago (where Hillary tried to outdo Obama in folksy bible stories). I just wish a viable candidate would step up sometime and recite Jefferson about separation of church & state, and flat-out refuse to participate. Unfortunately, the electorate is not there yet. They still wants to hear some jeeezuuss.

ps, that Chaplin movie is a good one. RDjr has so talented. I've been reading sci-fi again this summer, just like every summer.

Okay- I thought that I answered...and now I see that Blogger ate the comment- darn- and I was so witty earlier...

Doggie is better- and yea, I don't know what she ate- I think it was on the late in the dark run- so I need to watch her bettter.....I did watch the Faith thing- and it was not too bad- McCain was ALL Miitary- crikey - he is so damn scary...BUT Obama did great- really - he did a good job...and it was not totally awful- just mcCain......and yes your puppy vomit theory is correct- totally...the only thing worse than getting up to that sound is stepping in it..yes...that is for certain....
