Jonathon Alter kicks ass in this piece about WHY we need HealthCare Reform...Very Tongue N'Cheek...will make you think...

With the Cynical Razor Sharp Humor of a cancer survivor he nails the Lunacy of the Blue Dogs and Repugs and how selfish and narrowminded they are....
Snippet::::
"Why should I be entitled to the same insurance that members of Congress get? Blue Dogs need a lot of medical attention to treat their blueness. I'm just a regular guy and definitely deserve less.I had cancer a few years ago. I like the fact that if I lose my job, I won't be able to get any insurance because of my illness. It reminds me of my homeowners' insurance, which gets canceled after a break-in. I like the choice I'd face if, God forbid, the cancer recurs—sell my house to pay for the hundreds of thousands of dollars in treatment, or die. That's what you call a "post-existing condition."

I loved this piece! He really throws all their arguments back in their faces. I had no idea he was a cancer survivor. Or that he capable of such perfect sarcasm.

Even the people who say they are happy with their insurance are only one costly illness away from finding out they really have no coverage (as Michael Moore pointed out so well in SICKO).

it was a great article

more and more i am convince the ringmasters known as journalists dont want any sort of reform - would hurt hteir ratings

they ENCOURAGE all the stupidity and misunderstandings out there - like the govt will kill granny - they actually encourage it

they call it debate, i call it lies for ratings

yes that means even people on the left (tho the right is far more egregious) -- there is no honest debate, just honest lies and yelling.

how can ANYONE actually think that the govt will kill seniors - no serious journalists or pundit would but that doesnt matter

it is about winning
that is why i dont think we will have true reform

hurts ratings too much

I posted on this (sort of) today but my solution didn't offer an either or choice as much as this. Shit if I was going to have to cash in everything for treatment of something that would kill me...I'd just go out and by the much cheaper good bourbon and go with it. Fuck them and their "We know what the people need" attitude.

Prick motherfuckers are all bought and paid for by the corporate profits we are forced to give them.

We pay 77% more for medication in this country than anywhere else on earth. Fuck them all.

Ins & Big Pharma has them by the balls. Here is how it works-

• Congress is locked in to the Deluxe Health care coverage. No worries for them.

• Health Industry money flows like Niagara falls into the pockets of key deciding politicians. Openly.

• They are encouraged to become divisive & create fear in people who think they will both get worse coverage, AND launch an aggressive program to off the elderly.

The whole system is corrupted by the $.
Because to be a Senator, you have to have lots of it to keep the job.

As long as they have the us & them set up-- ie their own medical needs are met.... this is just a game piece they can play with.

What we are missing are the following tiems:

• Unity amongst the party with the majority.
What the hell!
We finally have a Dem president & a Dem majority.... this should not be falling apart.

• Strong voices getting in the face of media to promote the positives, the dire need, and speaking the truth about the situation.
Right now the lunatics have the spotlight with fear & lies & NOBODY is uniting to clamor for the truth.
They seem to be able to spew the bullshit, unchecked.

• As you have said here... Real life stories....
All the news magazines, NOR , PS should be using airtime to talk about real life medical scenarios in this country & even talk about those medical teams that usually go to remote rural 3rd world places & do a medical blitz of services.... doing that here in america & having such a great response/need they always have to turn people away.

• The truth is the for profit insurance companies are busy guarding their profit margins.... not the best interest of the client.
So many employers are not even offering health insurance & then people are cut off.
Millions.
There is no regulation for the health care industry....

• which is why pre$cription$ are outrageously expensive
• which is why pricing for procedures varies wildly.
• Doctors come out of medical school deeply in debt & have to charge through the roof to pay their debts.

So yes, we need to get a variety of programs that will indeed get Doctor's education costs down or somehow comped, have prescription drug companies bid to get the bulk contract for the *lowest price*, and put caps on just how much they can charge for procedures.

Furthermore.... the pre existing condition clauses must be banned.
How were they ever allowed to do that in the first place?

But it really irks me that politicians say you will have "worse coverage"... when, literally- millions have NO coverage.

I still think make the bastards have the same policy the rest of the country gets.
Employers change policies all the time....
Why not the gvmnt?

That and enact a pay freeze on them too... right now they get annual automatic raises.

Maybe that's a somewhat perverted solution. Ask your employer to dump the insurance. You won't get the right benefits anyway. That in effect will cut off their profits. No premiums no profits. It's headed that way anyway.
