Please see posts below, storm has really grown during the day. Compare the two Sattelite Images. ( it is almost a CAT3, only 2 MPH shy of CAT3, and even over by NOLA the winds high, and the Surge will reach how far across the Coast).It is definently Bigger than Katrina....Scroll down for more information.By 8PM it reached 110 MPH, which is CAT 3.

It will be a Cat 3 by the time it reaches shore late tonight...Millions have been and were told to stay in Houston...approximately 100,000 evacuated.I have more Hurricane info over on Hurricane Help Blog, it you need more info. or want to help. RED CROSS is already struggling coping with number of storms in a row. Winds are 105-109, once it hits Cat3 ( 111MPH) it will be huge...On Satellite it is bigger than Katrina, and the area that is at risk is bigger than ALL of New England, the Surge is expected to be that of Tsunami effect over 20 feet. Galveston, 50% have stayed ( that is 25-30,000 ). Refineries have evac'd. If you compare the Maps from Gustav that I posted on Sept1st, you can see how BIG this storm is.
AP Video showing the Storm Reaching Galveston.
If you want to watch Galveston, I have added LIVE Cam to the Title- just Click.CNN turned their camera off- so I added a Houston Station with LIVE Feeds.

Yep..We have 2 kids and a grandchild in Houston. They are staying. I think Galveston will get the brunt...but, hey, it's not like it's an earthquake - how much notice do you get on one of those? Not that the poor are positioned to do much on either.
I have lived through them all Hurricanes, quakes and floods....all kinds of storms...at a certain point you learn to ride things out and prepare....believe me with my little herd of critters it takes alot to pry me out of my home....I understand...
I hope everyone is okay and ready....atleast in the South people do try to take care of each other...
( about Notice of quakes Maria- funny thing...my pets have always been pretty good perdicters....mice or rabbits were the best,even our dogs were pretty good...)
I see Ike is topping out right now @ 109 mph winds, turns into a cat 3 @ 111. What a HUGE storm. Over 1 million have evacuated.... they were particularly encuraging those in low lying areas to get out.
Let's hope the storm moves along so it does not really damage any particular area.
Thoughts & prayers going that way.
In other news Charles Gibson did a decent job of asking Palin tough questions.
Of course her answers would floor us.
She said in her annoying tone, War with Russia is on the table, and she is OK with the Bush Doctrine-- preemptive strikes OK.
Uggghhh But finally we are getting some substance.
actually fran the twit that she is she did not even KNOW what the Bush doctrine IS- Gibson had to coach her through it and explain it- I just about died....tonight is the full thing and I might have to watch it- 6-6 wants to ...he pointed out that if McCoot dies- she is running for prez...scary shit...
( Charlie I think is skeptical of her and a bit scared- he also was a HUGE Hillary fan- and this moosewoman is NO Hillary....she is an ignorant zealot...)
yeah...many prayers for those down there...Hurrycane zone...lordy...
All those Baptist, Bush-worshiping Texans are about to get it good.
So much for Bush's "shining city a hill (Midland.)"
Start praying Bushlickers.
lets just pray for all in its path
I'm passing on a Brilliante award to you, E4E.
Robert::

Chris::
many of the folks on the Coast and Gavellston and Houston way hate Bush as much of all of us...( his peeps are by San Antonio, and Dallas....very different folks , jus sayin')

Always pay attention to your animals, they know!
I was just on the phone with the son whose C17 was alerted 5 days ago to take supplies to Corpus Christie which they did but when they got there they had trouble getting the people to take them.
Now with the hurricane heading towards Houston they had to go back and pick them up but he said they brought them somewhere useless.
He said it is a cluster fuck and no one knows nothing. Yesterday he called from a roach infested motel in Oklahoma. Today he is in Arkansas in a nice hotel near a big river but he does not know where he is. They just went out to get Drunk.
He said it is as if they are purposely dissing the minorities again. Here we go again! I don't friggen get it! How is your area?
Jim::
you know me I study these like a hawk- partly because I worked Red Cross....so i know it can be done better....and esp for the poor and the elderly...Until FEMA is ovrhauled and redone under Obama it is in bad shape- thanks to Chertoff and HLS....
sorry about your son- but I am glad that he is there to help....
3PM..
oh dear they have sent Rick Sanchez to Texas- so all weekend we will have his Nancy Grace antics....ugh...

Are you watching hurricane track.com ?
I was just listening to the guy and he said the stuff he put out last night to track this is already under water. He said he has never seen conditions like this so far ahead of land fall!
He said it looks like the monster storm they describe from 1900! They are describing some pretty scary numbers of the impact of this. They are saying it looks much worse than what they saw during Katrina.
All the aerial photos and sattelite photos are much worse...and bigger...and yes, the EYE is hard to see because it is too big- it is the Surge that must be watched- click any of the links on this post- and they all have the latest updates....
I am worried about Galveston....very much...
This is monstrous! It appears to be covering the entire Gulf! The wide damage and numbers they are using are down right scary!
yup...a rough weekend ahead...
RE: Bush's Peeps.
Despite its liberal rep, more ca$h was donated from Austin/Travis County to Bush/Cheney 2004 than any other region of the state.
Go figure that one?
RE: Rick Sanchez
I have it on very good authority that Sanchez is on Adderall for ADHD. This would explain why he chews up the scenery and otherwise acts like a lunatic.
Chris::
Adderall is a good drug for Adult ADD...No I think that is just how he is very very dramatic- he gets on my nerves...
I don't know about the Bush donations ...I do know I have met some lovely folks from Austin...and no Bushies...From my research Austin is very progressive and very liberal- I confess I know little about the WHOLE county..sorry...I have no explanation of the Bush donations....but probally a few rich folk could overwhelm the numbers eh?
checking in to see how you are doing.
thanks Dcap::
plenty below about MsMoose and the McCoot campaign..
