What's funny is McSame told Obama he should go to Iraq & Afghanistan. So Obama took the advice.... only McSame thought it would just be a walk in the Green Zone photo Op....like he does-- NOT meeting with leaders and having serious talks about how they want things to happen in the future. I bet McSame is kicking himself now, saying damn! I should have shut up & saved it for the ability to slam @ the convention.

I just really do NOT want an escalation in Afghanistan & more quagmire of war.
Really really don't want that.

Actually somewhere in the empty rooms of McCain's brain...he thought that if he sent The Kid there in Iraq he would look Bad...and he also in his brain thinks the troops love him...( yet when Kyra Phillips was there in the spring she could not find any of the troops that wanted McCain- or wanted to talk about him....the hero worship this thinks is there- is only in his brain and the MSM clipboard...)

About Afganistan- I will be honest - they have been undernumbered and poorly staffed for years....I think that Obama if he is right , a surge there might resolve and end some issues faster- the troops there are vulnerable to warlords and opium $$$$ AND the Al queda build up ( it is stronger than ever there...) sadly it has been neglected for so long- it is a mess....and our troops are in trouble...

Do I agree- you know that I don't spiritually...but strategically...Obama is right...and McCain never even mentions Afgansistan on the trail..I have suffered through enuf of his speechs on cspan....
It is about time Someone remembered our troops there...and that they do matter...

I dont know about you but some debates would be awesome about now :-)

E- I know Afghanistan heated up- in fact the last 2 months tere has been more fatalities in Afghanistan than in Iraq. But the US forged into an area that has always been a hotbed to turmoil. The Taliban & al Queda were there before & they will be there after we eventually leave. Or if the US openly announces a surge in Afghanistan, the A & T ( al Queda & Taliban), will move back to Iraq... it will go on & on & on. The US considers itself 9-11 to the world... going it alone? Maybe there are some NATO troops there... but largely the us troops, lives, money. Stuck in the middle east doing the same things in a fight that can't be won.
Afghanistan is very rugged count &the locals know the terrain. Bush's war in Iraq fanned the flames of these groups. People who lost so much in Iraq, felt pushed in that direction.
In a sense, it is playing into the hands of what Bushco created-- a neverending war in the Middle East. Sure Bush was eying Iran.... but Afghanistan & Pakistan would suffice.
Does the rest of the World Community feel this is a danger enough for them to be a part of stopping the A & T?

Who will insert comon sense & say- the US literally can't afford to engage in wars anymore?

Will we ignore history-- the Soviet Union spent 10 years in Afgh. until they finally realized they could not win or meet their objectives. Must we repeat this- because we have already been there 6 years.

I'd rather pay to have a United Nations peacekeeping force be there, than escalate to the war scene.

Military solutions are not solutions at all.
Iraq's lowered violence rate is very fragile....
if it can only be maintained by military saturation than is obviously not sustainable.

What World leaders are calling for non-violence? The ones who are not engaging, or do they think the US created it's own vortex of violence?

Well, there's a blog post for me to put together!

friend...you misunderstand me, it's my own fault, I did not explain myself well enough above...I don't agree with the decision..I never would and never do agree with violence , or military action as a solution...above I was explaining WHY Obama is proposing it....I understand WHY he is...( that does not mean I as an individual support it...)

But I also think that Bush has made a mess of so many things- that some of the solutions that Obama has put on the table I am not going to agree with ....

But I also know that OldManPcPain would have us fighting Everyone ( even if he can't find them on a map-shit this week he could not even get Afganistan right....scary).....

About Iraq- "lowered violence" is a misnomer at best.....Less than WHAT? ( that is like measuring the flames in Hell)....So when the media says that I think you are just reporting it less-doesn't mean that it is in any way improved...

Fran....I am a peacemongerer...but I also see that this whole situtaion on a bunch of fronts is a mess...I am just also trying to look at it that way...the bigger picture, the longer angle...

I hope that makes sense....
