HUGE EARTHQUAKE 8:30PM NEAR LIMA PERU, NOW UPGRADED TO 7.9, TSUNAMI WARNING ISSUED FOR HAWAII AND ALASKA

10 pm Update:
I have been trying to gather info, but I am having a hard time getting NEW info. Quake was large, near shoreline, near Lima ( City of 7 million), and was 29 miles below surface ( that is part of why it poses a Tsunami Danger). It was originally registered to 7.5 , now 15 minutes ago upgraded to 7.9. It also has been starting to show Tsunami effects. I will try to post more as I get it, please do also check Comments- if anyone has links , or more information please post in comments as well.

as of 10pm I have not been able to find new info on NOAA or USGS, I am confused as to why they are still slow on the websites- it has been 2 hours.

Caller to Anderson Cooper- said it lasted 2minutes .
CNN is staying on top of this.BUT MSNBC is not....and neither is FOX ( yet).

10:30 PM the best source SO far is WIKINEWS, and according to this page- they have had three quakes in a row- 7.9, then 5.9 and 5.4 after shocks - this was all in the past two hours. Inititially there was a Tsunami seen on sattelite photos ( the quakes according to USGS person Anderson interviewed at 10:25 pm said that the tsunami warning was being cancelled, which makes NO sense, as it was just seen off South America on Sattelite photos, that they reported on 5 minutes before USGS person called in). The quakes are 19 to 25 miles below surface ( I do not remember what the Christmas Tsunami 's depth was....I have to look it up ).

So as of 10:33 Pm I am confused, and still trying to find decent link.

LIMA, Peru - A powerful earthquake shook Peru’s coast near the capital on Wednesday, killing at least 17 people and injuring at least 70 as it toppled buildings and led hundreds to flee office buildings across the nation.

The Lima newspaper Cronica Viva and other news services reported that 17 people were killed in the southern coastal city of Ica, the site of a popular annual Catholic pilgrimage at the Church of LĂșren, which collapsed. At least 70 others were wounded there, witnesses said. Medical services in Ica, 300 miles south of Lima, were described by witnesses as non-existent.

State TV reported at least 200 people were injured around the country.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit about 90 miles southeast of Lima at a depth of about 25 miles. It was followed by four strong aftershocks that registered between magnitudes 5.4 and 5.9.

Associated Press reporters said the quake shook Lima for more than a minute and that some homes collapsed in the city’s center.
