Flossie & The Cone of Uncertainity

So Flossie is still bearing down in the Pacific, and she is a Hurricane, well formed and moving along at about 20 MPH and could increase up to 70 MPH , and with winds of 130-140 MPH she is making good time, and still rates a Rating of 4. ( Alot of this will be determined by the water tempature). I have been tracking her on the National Weather Service Website, they have more information than CNN. I was alarmed when CNN weatherperson said yestrday " well, this storm is still South of the Islands, BUT it does fall in the CONE OF UNCERTAINITY...." I was struck by this phrase, and if you go to the National Weather Service they do show the actual cone diagram and it is all about the shift of the Cone , whether Hawaii , the Islands could be hit by this BIG storm. ( I guess I do worry is it being downplayed because it is so far away or because they don't want to scare tourists off?) Now I also know that you are wondering are the locals there preparing, yes, the Mayor and Governor are getting ready ( esp. on the Big Island). Now I know you are also wondering is Homeland Security ready ? ( ah, no, go to their website- goodle Flossie&HLS, and they have NOT updated website since Augut 8th, 2007, and really nothing about Flossie, oh and FEMA? even worse....no Mention). And do I need to point out that they have NOWHERE to evacuate to? Well, atleast there is some military there ( I think ) and that should help....Keep an eye on this. We should all know by Tuesday morn about The Cone.....and Flossie's Path.

****IT IS NOW TUESDAY EVENING, THE BLOG LINKED TO THE TITLE IS FULL OF REALLY GOOD UPDATES. THE STORM IS WITHIN HOURS AND MILES OF HILO. THE BLOG ABOVE ALSO CONTAINS INFO ON THE QUAKE TOO. Cone of Uncertainty? Isn't that where George bush sits while he makes foreign policy decisions? Or, come to think of it, ANY decisions?

Hey darling, is your radar pinging like crazy over the Rove departure like mine is? Some serious shit is brewing but I cannot figure out what it is. Subpoena? Another "surprise" terrorist attack?

Well I am going to keep my antennae up until I figure it out. Nothing is EVER what it seems.

Yes dear gryphen Radar is up at FULL Alert....and NOT just for Flossie....you know I kept thinking when the CNN Weather Twinkette said the "Cone of Uncertainity", that rings a bell???

ahhhh, now I know......

( oh lordy please let it be a Supoena!!!! or Something)

ohhhh gman....my son just told me that the CONE is from......GET SMART....omg ...still laughing....

Gryphen said...

Yeah I flashed on that as well.

I was a HUGE fan of Don Adams and "Get Smart". They are doing a remake with Steve Carell which I have high hopes for.

Homeland Security and FEMA are probably unaware of any potential anything since they seem to miss all the horrible disasters.

That is a great hurricane watch site, E. Friends on the Kona Coast are not responding, they may have precautionary evac'd? eeek, they've already been hit with an earthquake, new lava path & now Flossie. Paradise.

now, wasn't the Get Smart cone, the Cone of Silence? OMG Gryphen, Steve Carell is perfect for Maxwell Smart. Who's gonna be 99? ~~ D.K.

I'm also following it, but I use the Weather Channel's free desktop application.

May I suggest that there is no uncertainty at all in Bush's decision. All you have to do is project the worst possible decision, and you will know his plans with absolute certainty. That's how I predicted the surge, aka the ChickenHawk Charge, days before the MSM did.

Tom you gotta check the link out..it is a wonderful wealth of info..and graphics and much better than the weather service down in Texas...

enigma
Now you have me watching flossie but in doing so I just noticed something heading towards the Antilles and another near Puerto Rico. Are things heating up?
I just noticed a comment about Rove. He will now be in a position to do more more damage to us than ever and nothing will happen to him because he enjoys executive privelage forever.
I did my post on this today from a point of view never mentioned. 2008 will be his 35th year of lying and getting rewarded for it. This is interesting. Let me know what you think.

Now CNN has an update, they say the storm has been downgraded to Cat3, but is moving faster....and gaining strength and fully developed Eye. winds have dropped to 120-130mph....BUT she is indeed headed to the Big Island....

Yes there is one in the Atlantic and Florida may see its first Hurricane or possibly its second.

There is another storm that will be Tropical #5 that is much closer than the one above which will be number 4.

It's going to start getting busy down south soon and what a better way to declare Martial Law than in a time of a Natural Disaster.

God Bless.

AnonP....I don't think so....remember that was his big Flyover moment...that was the extent of his work...HLS could care less( neither storm is on their site...) but I have to look for the other storm..

Hey d.K.,
the part of 99 is going to Ann Hathaway.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that this will not completely suck.

I've never been through a hurricane but some of my family members have. We have monsoon storms here in Scottsdale... which brings high winds and a lot of rain with flooding. But nothing like a hurricane.

Hurricanes are all about preparation..ductaping windows...boarding windows...moving things...and food and water and candles and hurricane lamps....I have been in a bunch...they are noisy and a pain....Some of the Islands actually have a good time with it( I know after Katrina that sounds awful...but most are NOT Cat 3 or higher)

( well....actually so are tornados- tornados and earthquakes MUCH scarier...)

enigma4ever said...

Ann Hathaway for 99? noooooo...

3am very early Tuesday morn...
Flossie is headed right to Hilo...
Big Island...
and is still a Cat 4- 140 mph

BUT...they say that it will reach the Islands by tomorrow night and that it will lost strength- I hope they are right...

Tropical Storm DEAN is swirling off of Africa ( officially classified as a STORM this am at 10:40am Eastern time)

TomCat said...

Great maps there, e4e. Still too early to tell with Dean.

Funny how illprepared people are for Hurricanes when they know well in advance they are on the way.

Anon-Paranoid said...

I hope the people in the islands don't get hit too hard, however that storm in the Gulf may hit Texas.

There are many good people in Texas who I would not like too see get hurt if that storm hits them.

However, I do hope that the storm if it turns into a Hurricane lands on Crawford and scares the Shit out of the Decider.

They just said the storm would be called Erin. Nothing like a pissed of Lassie to put Der Fuhrer in his place.

Hey maybe she's a redhead, you think?

God Bless.
