What Song is this ?

Greensleeves

I am confused I thought this was What Child is This? oh, well...
Either way I am dedicating this lovely song to Peacechick Mary...Stop by her Place.

( you know if one is typing in sleep deprived state and mis-types that dedicating word-
like gets the "d' mixed up with "f"....suddenly something so nice gets turned into something so well...rude...which it was like that for a little while- my apologies)

Peace One and ALL....

Enigma, it's both! -- they are both the same tune. Before modern copyrighting, it was common to write new words for an existing tune. Greensleeves goes way back, probably even further than Shakespeare's use.

Sometimes it was to clean up a previously popular baudy tavern song. I've heard this is how we got Amazing Grace which was originally about some strumpet who plied the drunken sailor trade.

Sometimes it was done as a purposeful poke in the face. Ever notice our America the Beautiful is the same tune as God Save The Queen? I'm sure it delighted many americans to remind the Brits about losing The Colonies.

And think of all Weird Al Yankovich has done to continue this art form ~~ D.K.

oops, I meant Our Country 'Tis of Thee (not America the Beautiful). I just sang it in my head to make sure. God save the Queen!

Oh, and that's only hearsay about Amazing Grace. But it makes sense to me! ~~ D.K.
